Alok Kumar Verma appointed as CBI Director
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on 19 January 2017 approved the appointment of Alok Kumar Verma as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
● Verma succeeded Anil Sinha, who retired from his office on 2 December 2016.
● Alok Kumar Verma, currently Delhi Police commissioner, is a 1979 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.
● This appointment of Verma as the CBI director is his 24th posting in a 36-year long career as a police officer.
● He had also served as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Puducherry and the Inspector General of Police in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

केंद्र सरकार द्वारा दिल्ली पुलिस आयुक्त आलोक कुमार वर्मा को 19 जनवरी 2017 को सीबीआई प्रमुख नियुक्त किया गया.
● सीबीआई के पूर्व निदेशक अनिल सिन्हा 2 दिसंबर 2016 को सेवानिवृत्त हुए.
● उनके पश्चात् 1984 बैच के गुजरात कैडर के आईपीएस अधिकारी राकेश अस्थाना को अंतरिम निदेशक के तौर पर नियुक्त किया गया.
● अलोक वर्मा ने 24 दिसंबर 1979 को दिल्ली पुलिस में आयुक्त (प्रशिक्षु) के रूप में करियर आरंभ किया.
● वे 29 फरवरी 2016 को दिल्ली पुलिस आयुक्त नियुक्त किये गये.
● इससे पूर्व वे तिहाड़ जेल के महानिदेशक भी रह चुके हैं.
● प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय को 45 आईपीएस अधिकारियों के नामों की सूची भेजी गई थी
● वरिष्ठ आईपीएस अधिकारी कृष्ण चौधरी, अरुणा बहुगुणा और माथुर को प्रबल दावेदारों में माना जा रहा था.
