The West Bengal Judicial Service Examination is one of the most prestigious examinations in India. It is the gateway to the coveted position of a Civil Judge in the judicial service of the state of West Bengal. This exam is conducted by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) and is highly competitive.

The examination is divided into three stages – Preliminary, Main and Viva-Voce. The WBPCS tests the candidate's knowledge of the law, legal reasoning and judgment, and legal writing skills.

After two years, West Bengal Public Service Commission released the notification for recruiting 29 Civil Judges. 

The Preliminary Examination will be held in Kolkata in March 2023. Whereas the Final Written Examination will be held in Kolkata in May 2023.

The High Court of West Bengal released the notification on the official website for West Bengal Judicial Service Examination, 2022. 

Your minimum age should be less than 23 years, and the maximum should be 35 years to be eligible for the WB Judicial Service Exam 2023. 

Age relaxation will be provided for SC/ST/BC category. The WBJS examination will be held in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test.

West Bengal Civil Judge Salary Structure

The West Bengal Civil Judge High Court salary ranges between Rs. 27,700 to Rs. 44,700 monthly. Apart from the West Bengal Civil Judge Salary, you will be entitled to many benefits and allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), travel allowance, dearness allowance, and travel allowance. In the initial joining, the basic pay will be Rs. 27,700.

  • After that, the increment will be Rs. 770 per year until the basic salary reaches Rs. 33,900. Once it goes to 33,900, the increment will be Rs 920 per year until the salary gets Rs. 40,450.
  • The total amount of salary in the initial level is around 58,839, including 27,700 (Basic), 29,639(dearness allowance) + 1500 (medical allowance).

The Eligibility for WBPSC Recruitment 2023 is based on age limit, qualification, and nationality.  You must fulfil the required eligibility criteria to apply for the exam.

  • A citizen of India or such a person of other nationality as declared eligible by the Government of India
  • A degree in Law from any University or Institution affiliated with any University recognized by the State Government or the Central Government
