Most of the time, the aspirants prepare for two or more states and focus on common topics or subjects like the constitution, Indian Penal Code (IPC), Family Laws etc. and neglect preparing the local laws of one particular state and keep them procrastinating for the last preparation. Your aim should be to qualify for the exam and not the stages.
Overview of UP Local Laws for the Judiciary Exam
As per the Uttar Pradesh Judiciary Pattern, the local laws hold great importance as Paper VI, i.e. Penal, Revenue, and Local Laws, marked for about 200, is totally about the Local laws.
All the questions asked in this exam are of a descriptive nature, and a total of 3 hours is given to complete the examination.
Also, questions from Local Laws are asked not just in Mains but in Interviews as well.
In this paper, answers pertaining to Local Laws will be asked from you, and questions pertaining to Penal Laws will consist of 50 marks, whereas that of Revenue and Local Laws will be 150 marks.
What to Study in UP Local Laws for the Judiciary Exam?
As per the UP PCS J syllabus, the questions will be restricted to the field covered by the acts listed below and rules framed under the aforesaid Acts. They will comprise 150 marks:
The Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land reforms Act, 1951
Uttar Pradesh, Urban Buildings (Regulation of Letting, Rent, and Eviction) Act, 1972
Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act
Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act
Uttar Pradesh Consolidation of Holding Act, 1953
Urban (Planning and Development) Act 1973, together with rules framed under the aforesaid Acts
Tips to Prepare UP Local Laws for the Judiciary Exam
If you leave it for the last minute and no one can stop you from failing the exam miserably.
After attempting the prelims exam, one can start preparing for the local laws by devising at least a week for each act.
In this way, in about 6 weeks, your majority preparation for Paper IV will be done, and no last-minute pressure will be created.
Preparing proper notes and revising continuously is a must.
Try limiting the source material and pick one book or study material that suits you best.
Keeping your sources limited will help during revision.
If one does not have well-compiled local law notes to study, you can always prepare from the Local Laws and Revenue books by authors such as R.R Maurya or Mohomad Taufiz Raza. These books are time tested, and even many past year's toppers have recommended these books.
