The Delhi APP salary 2026 starts at a basic pay of ₹56,100 per month under Pay Level 10 of the 7th CPC pay matrix (₹56,100–₹1,77,500).

With 63% Dearness Allowance, 30% HRA and Transport Allowance, a newly appointed Assistant Public Prosecutor in Delhi draws a gross salary of about ₹1,20,000 a month. After NPS, insurance, health scheme and income tax deductions, the in-hand salary is roughly ₹1,00,000–₹1,03,000.

Delhi APP Salary 2026 Overview

The Delhi Assistant Public Prosecutor salary changed in 2026. The Directorate of Prosecution, Government of NCT of Delhi, moved the post from Level 8 (Group B) to Level 10 (Group A Gazetted) under the Assistant Public Prosecutor Recruitment Rules, 2025. These rules were notified in the Delhi Gazette on 19 January 2026. The 140 Delhi APP vacancies in UPSC Advertisement No. 11/2026 are being filled at this new level.

Delhi APP Salary Structure 2026: Basic Pay & Pay Level

The Delhi APP salary structure has two parts:

  • Basic pay: fixed by the pay level.
  • Allowances: worked out as a percentage of basic pay or as set amounts.

Since every allowance depends on basic pay, the pay level decides how much you earn overall.

Delhi APP Pay Scale Under the 7th Pay Commission

The Delhi APP pay scale is ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500 under the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix. Officers of central Group A services such as the IAS and IPS start in this same range.

Older salary articles still show ₹47,600–₹1,51,100. That was the Level 8 scale from UPSC’s April 2025 advertisement for 66 APP posts, a recruitment that was later put on hold. The restructured cadre now has 265 sanctioned APP posts, all filled by direct recruitment through UPSC.

Delhi APP Starting Basic Salary and Pay Level 10

A new Delhi APP joins at the first cell of Level 10, which is a basic salary of ₹56,100. The move from Level 8 to Level 10 is worth a lot. At today’s DA, it raises monthly gross pay by about ₹22,000.

Component (per month) Old Level 8 Current Level 10
Basic pay ₹47,600 ₹56,100
DA (63%) ₹29,988 ₹35,343
HRA (30%) ₹14,280 ₹16,830
Transport Allowance + DA ₹5,868 ₹11,736
Gross salary ₹97,736 ₹1,20,009

Delhi APP Salary Per Month: Complete Breakdown

A new Delhi APP earns a gross salary of about ₹1,20,009 per month. Four components make up this figure, and each is worked out from the basic pay of ₹56,100.

Delhi APP Basic Pay, DA, HRA and Transport Allowance

DA is the second-largest part of the salary after basic pay. HRA is the only component you lose if you take government housing.

Component How it is calculated Amount (₹/month)
Basic pay Level 10, first cell 56,100
Dearness Allowance 63% of basic pay 35,343
House Rent Allowance 30% of basic (Delhi is an X-class city) 16,830
Transport Allowance ₹7,200 + 63% DA on it 11,736
Gross monthly salary 1,20,009

Delhi APP Salary Before and After the 2026 DA Hike

On 28 October 2026, the Union Cabinet raised DA from 60% to 63%, effective 1 July 2026. The Delhi Government usually adopts each central DA revision through its own Finance Department order. Delhi APPs move to the new rate once that order is issued, with arrears from July.

Period DA rate Gross salary (₹/month)
January–June 2026 60% 1,18,110
From July 2026 63% 1,20,009

The three-point rise adds about ₹1,900 to monthly gross pay. That looks small, but DA is revised every six months, so the increases add up over a career.

Delhi APP In-Hand Salary 2026 After Deductions

The Delhi APP in-hand salary is about ₹1,02,000 per month at entry. Of the ₹17,600 deducted from gross pay each month, more than half goes into your own pension account.

Delhi APP Salary Deductions: NPS, Income Tax and Insurance

Delhi does not levy professional tax, so there is no deduction for it.

Deduction Basis Amount (₹/month, approx.)
NPS / UPS employee contribution 10% of (basic + DA) = 10% of ₹91,443 9,144
Income tax (new regime, estimate) Annual taxable income of about ₹13.65 lakh 7,350
Health scheme contribution CGHS/DGEHS rate for Level 7–11 1,000
Group insurance (CGEGIS) Group A rate 120
Total deductions 17,614
Estimated in-hand salary ₹1,20,009 – ₹17,614 1,02,395

How Is Delhi APP In-Hand Salary Calculated?

In-hand salary is gross pay minus the deductions above. The income tax figure is calculated as follows:

  1. Annual gross pay at entry is about ₹14.40 lakh.
  2. The new tax regime allows a ₹75,000 standard deduction, so taxable income comes to about ₹13.65 lakh.
  3. Tax is charged at 5% on ₹4–8 lakh, 10% on ₹8–12 lakh and 15% on income above ₹12 lakh, plus 4% cess.
  4. The total is about ₹88,000 a year, or roughly ₹7,350 a month.

Your actual figure may differ. If you join mid-year, your first-year income is lower. If you live in government housing, you get no HRA. The old tax regime helps only if you have large deductions, such as a home loan.

Delhi APP Annual Salary and CTC in 2026

A Delhi APP’s annual salary at entry is about ₹14.4 lakh in gross pay, and the cost to the government (CTC) is close to ₹15.9 lakh. The difference is the government’s 14% NPS contribution. It does not reach your bank account each month, but it builds your retirement savings.

Head Monthly (₹) Annual (₹)
Gross salary 1,20,009 14,40,108
Government NPS contribution (14% of basic + DA) 12,802 1,53,624
Approximate CTC 1,32,811 15,93,732
Estimated in-hand 1,02,395 12,28,740

Delhi APP Salary Increment and Pay Matrix

A Delhi APP gets an annual increment of about 3%, which moves basic pay up one cell in the Level 10 column each year. Increments are credited on 1 January or 1 July, depending on your date of joining.

Year of service Basic pay (₹) Gross salary at 63% DA (₹/month)
1 56,100 1,20,009
2 57,800 1,23,290
3 59,500 1,26,571
4 61,300 1,30,045
5 63,100 1,33,519
6 65,000 1,37,186
7 67,000 1,41,046
8 69,000 1,44,906
9 71,100 1,48,959
10 73,200 1,53,012

Delhi APP Salary Growth After 5 and 10 Years

After five years, basic pay reaches ₹63,100 and gross salary is about ₹1.34 lakh a month. After ten years without promotion, basic pay is ₹73,200 and gross salary crosses ₹1.53 lakh.

These figures assume DA stays at 63%, so actual growth will be higher. DA has gone up by 2–4 points every six months in recent years, and the 8th Pay Commission will revise the whole matrix.

Delhi APP Promotion and Career Growth

An APP becomes eligible for promotion to Additional Public Prosecutor after five years of regular service. Both promotion posts were notified again under the 2025 recruitment rules after the cadre was restructured.

Delhi APP Promotion Hierarchy

Five years is the minimum time before promotion, and most officers wait longer. Promotion depends on vacancies and on the Departmental Promotion Committee.

The Director of Prosecution’s official profile shows he joined as a regular APP in 1996 and became Additional Public Prosecutor in 2005, nine years later.

Post Pay level Pay range (₹) Sanctioned posts
Assistant Public Prosecutor Level 10 56,100 – 1,77,500 265
Additional Public Prosecutor Level 11 67,700 – 2,08,700 210
Public Prosecutor Level 12 78,800 – 2,09,200 32

Delhi APP Salary After Promotion

Take an APP who has reached the ₹65,000 cell after five years. On promotion, pay is fixed in two steps:

  1. One notional increment is given in Level 10, taking basic pay to ₹67,000.
  2. The officer is placed in the next available cell of Level 11, which is ₹67,700.

The immediate raise is small. The bigger gain is the higher ceiling: Level 11 goes up to ₹2,08,700, against ₹1,77,500 for Level 10.

Some APPs leave the prosecution line and move to the bench instead. If you are weighing the two careers, our Judiciary vs APO comparison sets out the differences in salary, workload and growth.

Delhi APP Allowances and Additional Benefits

Besides basic pay, a Delhi APP gets the allowances and service benefits of a Group A gazetted officer of the Government of NCT of Delhi.

Dearness Allowance, HRA and Transport Allowance

  • Dearness Allowance: DA protects pay against inflation and is revised every January and July. It also raises Transport Allowance, because TA carries DA on top.
  • House Rent Allowance: HRA is 30% of basic pay in X-class cities like Delhi, a rate in force since DA crossed 50% in January 2024. If you take government accommodation, HRA stops and a licence fee is deducted instead.
  • Transport Allowance: Employees at Level 9 and above in Delhi get ₹7,200 + DA. Under Level 8, the base was only ₹3,600.

Medical Benefits, Pension and Leave Entitlements

  • Pension: Membership of the National Pension System, with the government contributing 14% of basic pay + DA. Check with the Directorate whether the Unified Pension Scheme option applies to your batch.
  • Medical cover: Cashless treatment for you and your dependants through the Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme (DGEHS) at empanelled hospitals.
  • Leave: 30 days of earned leave and 20 days of half-pay leave each year, plus casual leave, under central leave rules. Earned leave can be encashed at retirement.
  • Children Education Allowance: Reimbursement for up to two children at centrally notified rates.
  • Leave Travel Concession: Travel to your home town or anywhere in India within prescribed block years.
  • Group insurance: Coverage under the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme.
  • Gazetted status: You can attest documents, and you rank as a Group A officer within the Delhi Government.

Regular vs Contractual Delhi APP Salary 2026

In 2026, there are two ways to work as an APP in Delhi, and their pay differs:

  • Regular posts: The 140 UPSC posts are regular, pensionable Group A appointments.
  • Contractual posts: The Directorate of Prosecution has separately advertised 50 contractual posts to fill court vacancies until regular recruitment is complete.
Feature Regular APP (UPSC Advt. 11/2026) Contractual APP (Directorate of Prosecution)
Pay Level 10 pay + DA, HRA, TA Fixed remuneration linked to the minimum of Level 10 plus DA, as reported
Annual increments Yes No
Pension (NPS/UPS) Yes No
Promotion to Additional Public Prosecutor Yes, after 5 years’ regular service No
Job security Permanent after probation Ends with the contract term
Counts as regular service Yes No, as per earlier contract notices

Over a career, the regular post is worth much more, even if the first month’s pay looks similar. Before applying for a contractual post, read the Directorate’s notice for the exact remuneration.

Delhi APP Salary After the 8th Pay Commission

The 8th Pay Commission will raise the Delhi APP salary, but not yet. It was set up on 3 November 2025 under Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai and has 18 months to submit its report, so the deadline is around May 2027. No fitment factor or revised pay matrix has been announced so far.

When the new matrix comes in, every Level 10 cell will be multiplied by a fitment factor and DA will reset to zero. Earlier pay commissions were applied retrospectively, and the 8th CPC revision is expected to take effect from 1 January 2026, with arrears paid after approval.

For anyone joining through the January 2027 Delhi APP exam, the starting salary is likely to be revised upward within the first year or two of service. Any 8th Pay Commission Delhi APP salary figure you see today is a projection, not an official number.

Delhi APP Job Profile and Responsibilities

A Delhi APP represents the State in criminal cases before the Magistrate courts of Delhi. These courts sit in the district court complexes at Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma, Saket, Rohini, Dwarka and Rouse Avenue. Assistant Public Prosecutors are appointed under Section 19 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced Section 25 of the CrPC.

Roles and Duties of a Delhi Assistant Public Prosecutor

Most of this work runs on the BNS, BNSS and BSA every working day. That is why the recruitment test focuses on these three laws, and the Delhi APP exam pattern, with its one-third negative marking, rewards precise knowledge of the sections over a general grasp.

Several years of daily trial work in Delhi’s courts also builds a strong base for Delhi Judicial Services, which many APPs take up later in their careers.

  • Conducting trials: Prosecuting cases before Metropolitan and Judicial Magistrates, from the framing of charges to final arguments.
  • Examining witnesses: Leading the evidence of complainants, police officers and expert witnesses, and cross-examining defence witnesses.
  • Arguing bail matters: Opposing or conceding bail applications on behalf of the State, based on the case record.
  • Scrutinising police reports: Checking charge sheets and pointing out legal or evidentiary gaps before or during trial.
  • Advising investigating officers: Guiding the police on the sections that apply and the evidence a case needs to stand in court.
  • Handling summary and petty cases: Managing the high volume of traffic, excise and other minor offence cases common in Delhi’s courts.
