CLAT PG Counselling Process 2023

The Consortium of NLUs has listed the counselling process instructions for the CLAT PG entrance exam 2022 on the official website.

The counselling is conducted through a centralized process by participating National Law Universities (NLUs). Only those who have qualified in the entrance exam are eligible for counselling.

All qualified aspirants will receive an email/text message asking them to attend counseling with all the relevant documents.

How to Register for CLAT PG Counselling 2022?

The consortium started the counseling after the declaration of CLAT PG Result 2022.

The registration process for the CLAT 2022 counselling involves two steps:

  • Filling out your NLU preference
  • Paying the CLAT counselling fee

Only those who will register by paying the required amount on or before the last date are eligible to take part in the counseling process.

Step 1: Filling out your NLU preference

Those who have cleared the CLAT PG Exam 2022 must fill their choice  of NLU before the last date of registration

  • Visit the official website of CLAT
  • Login to the website by using your registered mobile number and password.
  • In your login account, go to Counselling Registration and Fee Payment.
  • Give at least five choices for NLUs to which you want to be admitted.

Step 2: Paying the CLAT counselling fee

  • You have to pay Rs. 30,000 (general) / INR 20,000 (reserved) category as a counseling fee online by choosing any of the following given options.
  • The fee payment can be done only online either by debit/credit card or through NEFT.
  • If paying through a debit/credit card, be ready with the card details, such as the name of the cardholder, validity, and CCV fill all the details in the payment gateway and make payment.
  • If you are paying through NEFT you have to log in to your registered Bank with your user name and password. Select the 'Add' option and enter the beneficiary name, beneficiary account number, address, and the interbank transfer limit in the given fields.
  • You are advised to take a printout of the fee payment proof for security purposes which might help during the refund.
  • You should note down if the application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

CLAT Seat Allotment List

The seat allotment process of CLAT is the allocation of National Law Universities and courses for those who cleared the entrance exam and appeared in the counselling. 

The Consortium releases 5 counselling lists one after the other. A seat is allotted based on your score in the entrance exam and the order of preference given by you in the CLAT PG Application Form.

1 - First Provisional Seat Allotment List

The consortium will provide the first provisional seat allotment list, including only those applicants who have completed the counseling registration process as outlined above. If you are on the First List will have THREE options as mentioned below:

a) Accept the Allotted Seat (Lock Seat) In these options, you are given an opportunity to lock the seat you have been offered confirming the seat, and debarring to shift your choice to any other NLU in the current counseling round. This is an option that is activated every counseling round after the publication of the symptomatic seat allotment list.

b) Apply for Upgrade This is an option that is made open to you in the second round of counseling. Also, this option is applicable to only those who have participated in the first round and have not yet locked their seats. The seats are given to you automatically in the event of a vacancy in your selected NLU. However, it is based on your selection from the subsequent allotment list.

c) Exit from CLAT Admission Process If you opt to quit the admission process, you will forfeit your present seat. Also, you will not be considered for allocation in the following lists. There is an option to withdraw the fee in two ways as mentioned below.  

2 - Second Provisional Seat Allotment List

Only those applicants who have completed the counseling procedure will be considered for the 2nd provisional Seat Allotment List of CLAT, which Consortium will release. If you are who are given seats for the first time in the Second List and those who requested for Upgrade in the prior list will have the options listed below.

  • Accept the seat that has been assigned to you (Locking the Seat)
  • Apply Upgrade Request
  • Exiting the CLAT application procedure

3 - Third Provisional Seat Allotment List

Only those applicants who have completed the counseling procedure will be considered for the 3rd provisional seat allotment list, which Consortium will release. If you are who are given seats for the first time in the Third List and those who requested for Upgrade in the prior list will have the options listed below.

  • Accept the seat that has been assigned to you (Locking the Seat)
  • Apply Upgrade Request
  • Exiting the CLAT application procedure

4 - Fourth Provisional Seat Allotment List

Only those applicants who have completed the counseling procedure will be considered for the 4th provisional seat allotment list, which Consortium will release. If you are who are given seats for the first time in the Fourth List and those who requested for Upgrade in the prior list will have the options listed below.

  • Accept the seat that has been assigned to you (Locking the Seat)
  • Apply Upgrade Request
  • Exiting the CLAT application procedure

5 - Fifth Provisional Seat Allotment List

Only those applicants who have completed the counseling procedure will be considered for the 5th provisional seat allotment list, which Consortium will release. If you are who are given seats for the first time in the Fifth List and those who requested for Upgrade in the prior list will have the options listed below.

  • Accept the seat that has been assigned to you (Locking the Seat)
  • Exiting the CLAT application procedure

CLAT PG Counselling Fee Refund Rules 2022

  • If you do not get a seat after the release of five lists by the Consortium, the total amount paid (30,000 or 20,000) will be refunded to you without any deduction.
  • If you choose to exit the counseling process OR do not accept any of the seats offered in any of the first four lists notified by the Consortium, an amount of (30,000 or 20,000) will be refunded.
  • After the fourth list, if you choose to withdraw, the consortium will deduct Rs. 5,000/- from the Counselling fee as a penalty for blocking the seat and putting the awaiting aspirants at disadvantage.
  • If you are found ineligible on the basis of the documents/information provided, an amount of Rs. 5,000/ will be deducted and the balance will be refunded.

Documents Required for CLAT PG 2022 Counselling

You must carry the following documents on the day of CLAT counselling. Otherwise, you are not allowed to take part in the seat allotment process.

  • 10th or equivalent marks statement 
  • 12th or equivalent marks statement
  • Admit Card
  • Marks Statements of LL.B. / B.L. or equivalent Degree
  • Character Certificate / Conduct Certificate 
  • Transfer / Migration Certificate
  • Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC etc.) if applied and allotted under the Reserved Category
  • PWD Certificate, if applied and allotted under the PWD category
  • Domicile / Residence Certificate, if applied and allotted under domicile/resident category seats
  • Any other supporting document to claim your seat for the category you have applied (Ex: Wards of Serving/Retired Defence Personnel, EWS certificate, Sons/daughters of Ex-servicemen/Defence service personnel, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the waiting list is there in the CLAT PG Counselling, but it will be issued along with the Provisional Allotment List from the first 2500 applicants who have been undertaken the counselling after remitting the fees. 

The list will be prepared by selecting the candidates proportionately from different categories like- General/ SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD/ DFF/ NRI, etc both from the All India and State (Domicile) category of candidates.

The candidates who will fail to report to the Universities and complete the formalities of the admission within a stipulated date will be forfeited their claim for the admission and their seats will fill up by the University by following its own process, not by the CLAT PG Office.

The respective Universities will report the admission details to the CAT PG Office long with the number of vacancies that might remain same due to non-reporting of the candidates allotted under the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Actual Allotment List, which helps to the CLAT PG Office to make the declaration of the final allotment.

You have to deposit a counselling fee of INR 30,000 for GEN category and INR 20,000 for Reserved classes. This counselling fee will be adjusted in the admission fees in the college allotted by the NLU.
