The countdown to one of the most crucial tests for law aspirants, the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2024, has officially begun. With the results set to be declared on December 10, 2023, the next critical phase is the admission process, which is set to start on December 12, 2023.
This is the final stage where thousands of students will secure a place in one of the prestigious National Law Universities (NLUs) across India. Find the detailed steps, counselling fees, and required documents in the blog!
The journey to securing a seat in an NLU is a bit complex and demands attention to detail. Here's a breakdown of the steps involved:
Results Announcement: The first and foremost step is the declaration of CLAT results. Once you have cleared the exam, you are eligible for the subsequent stages.
Counselling Fee: General category students must pay Rs. 30,000 as a counselling fee, while for SC/ST students, the fee is Rs. 20,000.
Registration for Counselling: You must officially register for counselling by providing your academic and personal details on the official website.
Seat Allotment: Your rank and preferences play a critical role in this step. The seat allotment is conducted over several rounds, considering these factors.
Document Verification: After your seat is confirmed, your next stop is the allotted college for document verification.
Admission Fee Payment: Paying the admission fee is akin to reserving your spot in the NLU.
Joining the College: The final step in the process is reporting to your allotted college, marking the start of your legal education journey.
Paying the counselling fee is a mandatory step. You can make the payment online using a debit/credit card or through NEFT. Remember, this fee is non-refundable, and any payment-related issues are not the responsibility of the Consortium.
Candidates have the choice of 'Freeze', 'Float', and 'Exit' options during counselling. The Freeze option confirms satisfaction with the allocated seat, the Float option keeps options open for better seats, and the Exit option allows candidates to withdraw from the counselling process entirely.

Carrying the right documents is crucial. For UG/LLB counselling, you need mark statements from the 10th and 12th grades, your admit card, character and transfer certificates, and relevant caste or domicile certificates, if applicable. For PG/LLM counselling, in addition to the above, you will need your LL.B. degree mark statements.
