Tohoku University’s Professor Gets Among The Winners Of The 2023 Japan Prize             

  • Masataka Nakazawa, a specially-appointed professor at Tohoku University’s International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), has been named a co-winner of the 2023 Japan Prize in the field of Electronics, Information and Communication.
  • He shares the honour with Kazuo Hagimoto, chief researcher at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology. The award recognises their contributions to global long-distance, high-capacity optical fiber networks through the development of semiconductor laser pumped optical amplifiers.

Georgia Institute Of Technology Experts Head-Up With Tech Research With $2.3B Qcells Solar Power Investment .                                

  • The state of Georgia is at the epicenter of what may be the largest investment in clean energy manufacturing in U.S. history, and Georgia Tech is poised to play a key role in an investment that is slated to create thousands of jobs and boost solar power infrastructure in our state and beyond.        
  •  Qcells, a solar power company, plans to build a $2.3 billion manufacturing complex just north of Atlanta in Cartersville to not only make state-of-the-art components for solar panels, but also to build complete panels used in a variety of settings, from houses to large-scale commercial and industrial solar arrays. 

Manu Jain Resigns from Xiaomi after 9 – Year stint .                                                                          

  • Manu Kumar Jain on Monday quit handset maker Xiaomi. He has been credited with establishing the brand's smartphone category and he was working as the vice president of Xiaomi Global 
  • BBC accused of "waging an information war" against Russia and other independent global powers. 
  • The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) of "waging an information war" not only against Russia but also against other global centres of power that pursue an independent policy. The comments were made by the ministry's spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, in response to the recent release of a controversial two-part BBC documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

First G20 International Financial Architecture Working Group meeting                                                                                                                                                        

  • The first G20 International Financial Architecture Working Group meeting under the G20 Indian Presidency will be held today and tomorrow in Chandigarh. Briefing the media persons at Chandigarh, Anu P Mathai, Economic Advisor, Department of Economic Affairs said that International Financial Architecture Working Group is one of the important workstreams under the G20 Finance Track with a focus on strengthening the international financial architecture. It also aims to address multiple challenges faced by vulnerable countries. 

Odisha finance minister Niranjan Pujari has been allotted the Health and Family welfare department 

  • A statement from the Chief Minister's Office confirmed the appointment and said, "With approval of governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, chief minister Naveen Patnaik allocated health and family welfare department to finance minister Niranjan Pujari."

Germany beat Belgium 5-4 in penalty shootout to win FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar                                                                                                                                               

  • In the FIH Hockey World Cup, Germany have lifted the World Cup after 17 years beating Belgium 5-4 in a penalty shootout, after the game ended 3-3 in the final at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Germany now have won the World Cup three times, first in 2002 and second in 2006.
  • Murali Vijay announced retirement from all forms of cricket                                                  
  • Murali Vijay Retirement: Indian cricket team's veteran opener Murali Vijay announced retirement from all forms of cricket, Monday. Vijay played his last international match for the national team in December 2018, against Australia in Perth. The red-ball specialist represented India in 61 Tests, 17 ODIs and nine T20 matches.                                                                               
  • For India, Murali Vijay scored 3982 runs, including 12 centuries and 15 half-centuries at an average of 38.28 in 61 Tests, 339 runs in 17 ODIs and 169 runs in nine T20 matches
  • A massive setback for the Australian cricket team                                                                
  • Mitchell Starc's latest announcement confirmed that he will most probably return to action in India vs Australia 2nd Test, set to be played in Delhi from February 17 to 21.

  • ·      Summer Lab, a four-week University of Auckland experience highlighting innovation and entrepreneurship education, is enjoying its day in the sun after winning a United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship award (USASBE).                                 
  • ·      This year, the University of Auckland is the only institute outside North America to take out a USASBE award after Summer Lab won the Entrepreneurship Education Excellence award for innovation in co-curricular education.

  • 30 January is celebrated as Martyr's Day or Shaheed Diwas every year in the memory of Mahatma Gandhiand the sacrifice of three revolutionaries of India. As, of 30 January, 1948, the 'Father of Nation' was assassinated. And on 23rd March 3 heroes namely Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar of the nation were hanged to death by the British.

 World Leprosy Day                             

  • World Leprosy Dayis observed on the last Sunday of January to focus on the target of zero cases of leprosy-related disabilities in children. As we know disabilities do not occur overnight but happen after a prolonged period of undiagnosed disease.
