Is it worth taking a drop for CUET 2025?

The CUET exam is a national-level exam for admission to over 260 universities. Some of these universities, such as DU, JNU, BHU, BBAU, etc., witness a high number of applications and thus high cut-offs.

  • For instance, the Political Science Course at Hindu College, Delhi University, offers only 48-49 seats, whereas the number of applicants can be as high as 46,470.
  • This leads to an incredibly high cut-off, ranging from 97 to 99 percentile.

If securing a seat in a top college, such as Delhi University's North Campus, is your primary goal and your score falls short in the CUET exam, a retake might be a viable option. However, this decision should be made after careful consideration of the following factors:

  • You must wait for the CUET result declaration to ensure your score.
  • Analyze the counselling process in detail to determine the colleges you qualify for based on your score.
  • If a decent college aligns with your preferences, it might be useful to begin your studies there.
  • However, if none of the colleges matches your interest, retaking CUET in 2025 is possible.

What is a 'Partial Drop' Strategy for the CUET exam?

A partial drop for CUET involves enrolling in an alternate program at any participating university instead of your desired one after your first attempt at CUET. While enrolled in a regular course, you prepare for the CUET for your second attempt to enter your dream college.

However, you must set your priorities during the partial drop. The exam should be your top priority if you want to keep working hard to get into the college of your dreams.

  • You must dedicate 60-70% of your time to studying for the CUET preparation; the remaining time is for your college.
  • When you get into your desired institution, you won't be sticking with that program, so try to earn at least average test and exam results.
  • Create and follow a schedule that includes your daily activities, efficient study hours & time for leisure activities.

This approach can potentially improve your chances of landing a seat in a top college the following year.

Conclusion

Answering: Is it worth taking a drop for CUET 2025? The competition for the CUET is exceptionally high. A score between 780 and 800 might be necessary to secure a seat in a top college through the exam.

  • Do not decide to retake the exam until the final results are released.
  • If opting for a retake, create an efficient study plan focusing on CUET mock tests and the previous year's papers.
