CBSE has announced the class 12th Syllabus for the Commerce Students. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decided to reduce the 12th syllable by 30% for the academic year 2020-21. In the notification, the CBSE stated that the syllabus was rationalized though maintaining the core concepts as classroom education had been impacted by the current situation.

  • The CBSE 12th assessment begins in February and will proceed until March as per the official schedule from the past years.
  • In particular, there are five Class 12 Commerce Subjects included in CBSE board. 
  • Among the 5, 4 topics are mandatory, while the 5th subject is optional. The electives should be determined by the students, based on their interests.
  • Electives may be selected from various topics such as Maths / Informatics Practices / Physical Education, etc.

The Board's decision to rationalize CBSE Class 12 Commerce Syllabus by up to 30% for almost 190 subjects in Classes IX to XII for the 2020-21 academic year was a one-time measure. The aim is to reduce student tension related to the current health emergency and to eliminate learning gaps.

In order to compensate for the loss of instructional hours during the current 2020-2021 session, the CISCE has worked with its subject experts to reduce the syllabus for all major subjects at ICSE and ISC level. Syllabus has been reduced, keeping in mind the linear progression across classes, while ensuring that core concepts related to the subject are retained.

  • Heads of CISCE affiliated schools have been asked to ensure that the relevant subject teachers at ICSE and ISC level conduct the syllabus strictly on the basis of the sequence of topics set out in the syllabus;
  • So as to facilitate a further reduction in the syllabus, if required, depending on the situation of the pandemic in the country,
