Overview: From wedding bells to rank 50-Jonathan's IPMAT journey is anything but not ordinary. Read his impressive story.
From a wedding celebration to an AIR 50 surprise, Jonathan's IPMAT story proves that belief, balance, and support can lead to remarkable outcomes.
This Supergrads Topper Talk features Jonathan from Thiruvalla, Kerala, who secured All India Rank 50 in IPMAT Indore 2025.
A commerce student from the ISC board, Jonathan balanced boards, entrance prep, and personal passions-all while preparing online.
In this interview, he is joined by his father, Mr. Jacob, as they reflect on the journey, challenges, and the support that shaped his success.
Jonathan: "I'm doing good, feeling very happy after hearing the good news yesterday. I still haven't fully processed it, but yes-it feels good."
Mr. Jacob: "It's one of the biggest gifts a parent can have-seeing your child live up to his dream. It was an emotional moment for the whole family, especially since we were already at my nephew's wedding. The IPMAT result made it a double celebration."
Q. When did you get to know about IPM, and how did your Supergrads journey start?
Jonathan: "I learned about IPM in Class 11. I took commerce with math, and my sister also took the IPM path, so she inspired me. I gave Supergrads' All India Mock after 11th and did fairly well. They offered a part scholarship, I joined-and I've never looked back."
Mr. Jacob: "Both of us are doctors, unfamiliar with commerce or management. So, we couldn't guide technically. Instead, we focused on keeping the home stress-free, comfortable, and organized-so Jonathan could stay focused. My wife did a great job ensuring everything ran smoothly."
Jonathan: "Supergrads helped a lot. Especially during times I felt unsure, I reached out, and they helped me realign with my goal."
Jonathan: "Anil Sir-throughout the IPMAT mocks, I'd share my scores with him. He always offered advice or motivation."
"Binda Ma'am-before the IPMAT Indore exam, I was worried about the VC section. My scores were dipping. I called her the day before the exam-we spoke for 20 minutes, and it really helped. Ironically, VC became my best-performing section!"
"Mr. Nilesh-he kept sending motivating messages based on my performance. I appreciate that."
Jonathan: "A few months before my 12th boards, I was overwhelmed trying to balance studies, IPM prep, and other activities. I created a proper schedule and got immense support from my parents and grandparents. That helped me get back on track."
Mr. Jacob: "There was some stress-naturally, as parents we want our children to do well. But we ensured he had time to relax, study, and recharge. We live in a small city with fewer distractions, which helped. We just supported him in every way we could."
Jonathan: "I had no idea where to start with interview prep. Supergrads' admitSure Batch gave us a step-by-step plan. They even assigned mentors from IIMs. We learned what to expect, what to prepare, and how to present ourselves. Those small details made a huge difference."
Jonathan: "Board marks matter for many IIMs, so I couldn't ignore them. I created a schedule to balance both and made sure I didn't leave anything behind. But the real key is consistency."
Mr. Jacob: "Many students consider taking a drop. But I agree with what you always say: give your best this year, and consider other options only if needed. Also, don't neglect 12th marks-colleges do look at them. We followed your YouTube channel for guidance-it was very helpful for parents like us who are not from this field."
Jonathan: "There will be moments when you feel like giving up-like this isn't for you. But don't worry about the results. Just focus on the process. Work hard, stay consistent, and the outcome will take care of itself."
