In a pivotal turn of events within the Delhi excise policy investigation, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha has been placed in judicial custody until April 9, as decreed by the Rouse Avenue Courts' Special Judge Kaveri Baweja. This decision followed the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) request for an extended 15-day custody of Kavitha, who was initially detained on March 15.

Kavitha is embroiled in controversy over her alleged involvement in the contentious Delhi excise policy case. The ED, labelling her a "highly influential" figure, expressed concerns over her potential to sway witnesses and tamper with evidence, thus justifying the need for continued custody.

The ED's ongoing investigation into Kavitha's role in the excise policy case is part of its broader effort to trace the proceeds of the alleged crime and pinpoint further connections to the scheme. The agency has hinted at the possibility of seeking additional custody as the probe deepens.

Details of the BRS Leader's Custody

The case has attracted significant public and political interest, especially as it implicates notable political figures like Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The ED's focus on Kavitha centers around her supposed links with a "South Group" of liquor traders accused of manipulating the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. To the tune of ₹100 crores, incidents of kickbacks have surfaced, implicating various individuals, including Kavitha, in a complex web of financial and political manoeuvring.

Kavitha's arrest and subsequent judicial remand highlight the case's intricate and politically charged nature. The investigation presses on despite her vehement denials and accusations against the Central government of leveraging the ED for political vendettas. With each development, the case sheds light on the tangled interplay of politics and governance in India, keeping the public and political domains keenly interested in its outcome.
