 In first, Ajit Doval hosts NSAs of Central Asian nations

  • National Security Adviser Ajit Doval for the first time, hosted a special meeting with his counterparts from Central Asian countries.
  • This was the first time that NSAs of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were in Delhi for a high-level security meeting, which focus mainly on the security situation in Afghanistan and the threat of terrorism originating from the country under the Taliban.
  • This meeting flows from the India-Central Asia virtual summit, held in January this year.

RBI Monetary Policy 2022: RBI Repo Rate Hike by 35 bps to 6.25%

  • The decision of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das headed six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has been announced.
  • In the consecutive fifth hike this year, the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee has raised the repo rate by 35 basis points (bps) to 6.25 per cent with immediate effect, making loans expensive.
  • The policy rate is now at the highest level since August 2018. The RBI has maintained policy stance at ‘withdrawal of accommodation’.

Razorpay becomes India's first payment gateway to support credit cards on UPI

  • Razorpay, India’s full-stack payments and banking platform for businesses announced the platform’s readiness to support credit card transactions on Unified Payments Interface (UPI). With this launch, Razorpay becomes India’s first PG to support credit cards on UPI.
  • Customers of HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank & Indian Bank will be the 1st to enjoy the benefits.

India's Greenhouse-in-a-Box startup Kheyti wins 2022 Earthshot Prize

A Greenhouse-in-a-Box sustainable solution for small farmers devised by Telangana startup Kheyti has won the 1 million pounds Earthshot Prize, founded by Britain's Prince William and dubbed the Eco Oscars'. Kheyti, one of the five winners at a gala green carpet awards ceremony in Boston, won the prize in the Protect and Restore Nature category from hundreds.

 

Indian-origin science teacher wins Prime Minister's prize in Australia

  • An Indian-origin teacher in Australia has received the 2022 Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in secondary schools. Melbourne-based Veena Nair, who is ViewBank College's Head of Technology and STEAM project leader, has been awarded for demonstrating practical application of STEAM to students, and how they can use their skills to make a real impact in the world.
  • As a leading educator in STEAM, Nair has more than 20 years of experience in teaching science-based subjects across India, the United Arab Emirates, and now Australia.

India's GDP to grow at 6.9% in FY23 & will remain one of the fastest-growing major economies, says World Bank

  • The World Bank in its India Development Update has upgraded the forecast for the Indian economy to 6.9% from 6.5% earlier in the current fiscal year.
  • The report sees average retail inflation at 7.1% this year. World Bank's India Development Update said India is affected by spillovers from the US, Euro area, and China.

Gautam Adani, 2 other Indian billionaires on Forbes Asia Heroes of Philanthropy list

  • Billionaires Gautam Adani, HCL Technologies' Shiv Nadar, and Happiest Minds Technologies' Ashok Soota are the three Indians who have been named in the 16th edition of Forbes Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy list.
  • Gautam Adani was listed for having pledged ₹60,000 crores ($7.7 billion).
  • Shiv Nadar donated ₹11,600 cr. ($142 million).
  • Ashok Soota has pledged ₹600 cr. ($75 mn.)

International Civil Aviation Day 2022 

  • International Civil Aviation Day is observed on December 7 every year. The day was established by the United Nations in order to promote the importance of international civil aviation.
  • The ICAO Council establishes the theme for International Civil Aviation Day every four years. The theme till 2023 is "Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development".
