First G20 Sherpa meeting under India’s Presidency begins at Udaipur

  • India has been ranked among the top 50 countries of the world in terms of comprehensive safety audits conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), said the Director General of Civil Aviation.
  • In terms of ranking India jumped from the 102nd rank four years ago to the 48th spot this year.
  • The Indian aviation safety has scored the highest ever El score of 85.49 per cent which puts India in the 48th spot. In 2018, India scored 69.95 per cent at the 102nd rank.

India The First Country in The World to Receive $100 billion in Remittances

  • India will be the first country in the world to receive $100 billion from remittances during 2022, the World Bank has said. Though remittances to the rest of the South Asian countries declined by 10%, it rose by 12% in India’s case.
  • Remittances are a vital source of household income for low income countries as they help alleviate poverty, improve nutritional outcomes, and are associated with increased birth weight and higher school enrolment rates for children in disadvantaged households. Studies show remittances help recipient households to build resilience, for example through financing better housing and to cope with the losses in the aftermath of disasters.

  • France beat Poland 3-1, while England recovered from a slow start to hand African champion Senegal a 3-0 defeat.
  • France’s Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud provided the 3-1 goals that defeated Poland, and England’s Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka put three in the net for their 3-0 win over Senegal.
  • France and England will take on each other in the quarterfinal at the FIFA World Cup.

Brazil defeat South Korea 4-1 to reach FIFA WC quarter-finals for 8th straight time

  • Five-time champions Brazil defeated South Korea 4-1 in their round of 16 match at Stadium 974 in Doha to reach FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the eighth straight time.
  • Vinicius Jr, Neymar, Richarlison and Lucas Paquetá scored for Brazil, marking the first time since 1954 that Brazil netted four goals in the first half of a FIFA World Cup match.

India ranked 48th in Global Aviation Safety Rankings 2022

  • According to DGCA officials, India has jumped to the 48th position in the global aviation safety ranking by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
  • Four years ago, the country was ranked at the 102nd position. In the ranking, Singapore is at the top, followed by the UAE and South Korea at the second and third positions, respectively, the officials said. China is at the 49th place.

  • A book titled ‘Brave Hearts of Bharat, Vignettes from Indian History’ by Vikram Sampath, an anthology of 15 stories of men and women and their indomitable spirit of freedom and courage, was launched in Delhi. The book is published under Penguin publication.
  • The book chronicles the stories of courage and determination of few individuals, whose stories largely remained untold and therefore unknown for a long time.
