Seventh edition of Global Technology Summit held at New Delhi

  • The seventh edition of the Global Technology Summit was held from 29th Nov till the 1st of December in New Delhi in a hybrid format.
  • The Summit is India’s annual flagship event on Geotechnology and is co-hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs and Carnegie India. The theme for this year’s Summit is ‘Geopolitics of Technology'.

  • The world’s leading full-stack debt support and risk mitigation platform has inaugurated India’s first Innovation Lab (SIL) dedicated to the debt collection segment of banking industries in India and the Middle East.
  • SIL will work with a variety of bank stakeholders to better understand the NPA situation and how the team might be able to use technology to remedy it.

UAE emerges as second biggest tea importer from India after CIS bloc

  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as the second largest importer of tea from India after the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as a block, according to the latest data released by Tea Board.
  • During the period from January to September 2022, UAE imported 28.58 million kilograms of tea from India, a rise of 159 per cent from the similar nine-month period of 2021.

Reserve Bank of India issues framework for Indian banks' foreign biz

  • RBI has put in place a framework to allow overseas subsidiaries and branches of Indian banks and financial institutions to undertake activities not specifically permitted in the Indian domestic market.
  • The framework also specifies the applicability of these instructions to International Financial Services Centres in India, including Gujarat International Finance Tec-City.

Manthan Platform Wins the Best Tech Initiative Award

  • The Manthan platform won NSEIT the Best Tech Initiative of the Year at the Dun & Bradstreet Business Excellence Awards 2022 .
  • The award was presented for building the technology infrastructure to support Manthan, a platform that promotes collaboration at scale between industry and the scientific research and development ecosystem.

Arjun Erigaisi, Rameshbabu Vaishali Emerge Champions in Tata Steel Chess India

  • Arjun Erigaisi clinched the Blitz title finishing ahead of Hikaru Nakamura on the concluding day of the Tata Steel Chess India. 
  • Displaying a strong performance on the last day, R Vaishali emerged as the Blitz women’s champion. She ended with 13.5 points followed by Mariya Muzychuk with 12 points and Harika Dronavalli with 11 points. 

Asian Junior C’ships: Unnati Hooda wins India’s first-ever medal in under-17 category

  • Indian shuttler Unnati Hooda became the first-ever Indian under-17 shuttler to clinch a medal at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships. 
  • She lost to Sarunrak Vitidsarn of Thailand in the gold medal match in the women’s singles category. 
  • In the men’s doubles category, the in-form duo of Arsh and Sanskar also got a silver medal.

  • International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development is observed on December 5 every year.
  • The day is also referred to as IVD and is mandated by the UN General Assembly in 1985. To achieve goals at the local, national and international levels, the UN offers an opportunity to volunteer-involving organisations and individual volunteers to promote volunteerism.

World Soil Day 

  • World Soil Day is held annually on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.
  • An international day to celebrate soil was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences in 2002. In December 2013, the UN General Assembly designated 5 December 2014 as first soil day.
  • The theme of World Soil Day 2022 is “Soils: where food begins”.
