Macron concludes India visit, seals key deals

  • French President Emmanuel Macron concluded his two-day visit to India, participating as the chief guest in the 75th Republic Day celebrations.

M Modi announces major infrastructure projects in Bulandshahr, UP

  • Prime Minister Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 19,100 crores in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. The diverse projects spanned crucial sectors such as rail, road, oil and gas, and urban development. 

Nitish Kumar takes oath as Bihar CM for a record 9th time with BJP's backing

  • Amidst anticipation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar, the leader of Janata Dal-United (JDU), assumed office as Bihar's Chief Minister for an unprecedented ninth term. This move marked a departure from the 'Mahagathbandhan' alliance, as Kumar garnered backing from the BJP.

The Netherlands clinched the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup.

  • India finished as runner-up at the inaugural edition of the FIH Hockey 5s Women’s World Cup after a 7-2 loss to the Netherlands in the final in Muscat.
  • India tried to make a comeback and scored twice – Jyoti Chhatri (20th minute) and Rutaja Dadaso Pisal (23rd minute) – but could not catch the Dutch team which added one more goal courtesy of Kalse before the full-time hooter. 

Tanmay Agarwal's exceptional triple century made history in the Ranji Trophy 

  • Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal scored an unbeaten 323 off just 160 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group game. His innings included 33 fours and 21 sixes, showcasing his aggressive batting style.

Sudhir Sekhri assumes the role of Chairman at AEPC.

  • Sudhir Sekhri, an experienced figure in the apparel industry, has assumed the position of Chairman at the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).
  • Shri Sekhri has been into the business of Readymade Garment Manufacturing for more than four decades and is currently Managing Partner of Trendsetter International.

  • A day set aside to honour the beginning of newspapers in India is known as Indian Newspaper Day. This day is intended to raise awareness of Indian newspapers. Indian Newspaper Day, which is observed on January 29th each year, is today. However, there is no theme to observe this important occasion.

Zomato Payments approved as online payment aggregator by RBI 

  • Zomato Payments, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zomato Limited, has received the certificate of authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India to operate as an online payment aggregator.
  • In an exchange filing, the food delivery platform stated the central bank has allowed it to carry out the business as payment aggregator and issuer of pre-paid payment instruments with effect from January 24, 2024.
