Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates India’s First Aluminum Freight Rake

  • Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated India’s First Aluminum Freight Rake - 61 BOBRNALHSM1 at Bhubaneswar Railway Station today. The rake’s destination is Bilaspur.
  • This is a dedicated effort for Make in India program as it has been fully designed and developed indigenously in collaboration with RDSO, HINDALCO and Besco Wagon.
  • The tare is 3.25 tons lower than normal steel rakes, 180 ton extra carrying capacity resulting in higher throughput per wagon.
  • The reduced tare will reduce carbon footprint as lower consumption of fuel in empty direction and more transport of freight in loaded condition. A single rake can save over 14,500 tonnes of CO2 over its lifetime.
  • Iron industry consumes a lot of Nickel and Cadmium which comes from import. So, proliferation of Aluminum wagons will result in less import. At the same time, this is good for local aluminum industry.

India to host 90th General Assembly of INTERPOL from 18th to 21st Oct

  • India is hosting the 90th General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL from 18th to 21st of October in New Delhi.
  • The General Assembly is INTERPOL’s supreme governing body, comprising representatives from each of 195 member countries. It meets once a year.
  • India is one of the oldest members of Interpol and joined the organization in 1949. All member countries of INTERPOL have agreed to ensure and promote the widest possible assistance between all criminal police authorities in the prevention and suppression of ordinary law crimes.
  • The role of INTERPOL is to enable police around the world to work together to make the world a safer place.

Gwalior: Shah inaugurates ‘Gatha Swaraj Ki’ gallery in Scindia Museum

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated a gallery-cum-exhibition depicting the history of prominent Maratha commanders at the sprawling Jai Vilas Mahal of Scindias, the erstwhile rulers of Gwalior. Shah was in Gwalior to lay the foundation for the terminal building and expansion of the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport.
  • Shah visited the museum in the palace and inaugurated the ‘Gatha Swaraj ki-Maratha Gallery’ depicting the history of the main Maratha rulers including the Scindias, Gaikwads, Holkars, Nevalkars, Bhosales and the Pawar.
  • As per the booklet about the gallery, the word “Swaraj” was first used by Sakharam Ganesh Deoskar in a Bangla book- “Shivajir Mahatva” on the life of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1902. The word “Swaraj” was used by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Veer Savarkar, the Bhartiya Jan Sangh and Indian National Congress among others. Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the royal descendant, his wife Priyadarshini Raje and their son Mahanaryaman welcomed Shah in the palace.

ISSF world championship Men's air rifle team clinched Gold Medal

  • Winning the Olympic quota spot and finishing in the top two already assured Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil a special day in Cairo at the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol on Friday. But the teenager added a icing to the cake by becoming world champion as well in thrilling manner.
  • With a stunning comeback in the gold medal match at the Egypt International Olympic City (EIOC) shooting range, 18-year-old Patil became the senior men’s 10m air rifle world champion. Patil also earned India’s second Paris 2024 Olympic Games quota spot.
  • The Thane teenager also becomes the second Indian man after Abhinav Bindra in 2006 to be crowned the 10m air rifle world champion.
  • Four quota spots are available in Olympic events at the World Championship this year. India had earned their first quota at the Shotgun World Championship is Croatia recently, thanks to Bhowneesh Mendiratta in men’s trap event.

Asia Cup 2022: Indian women rout Sri Lanka to win title

  • The Indian women's team won the Asia Cup 2022 defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final. Opener Smriti Mandhana struck a brilliant 25 ball-51 not out as India clinched the T20 Women’s Asia Cup, routing Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final on Saturday.
  • Sri Lanka’s decision to bat first backfired as it put up 65-9 with just two batters reaching double digits.
  • Mandhana’s aggressive batting made the target easier as she confirmed the victory with a six over long-on to help India reach 71-2 in just 8.3 overs.
  • She hit six fours and three sixes in her knock to help India clinch its seventh Asia Cup title.

Apoorva Srivastava Appointed as India's ambassador to Slovak republic

  • Apoorva Srivastava, a diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service, has been appointed to serve as India’s Ambassador to the Slovak Republic. An officer of the 2001 batch, she currently serves as Consul-General at the Consulate of India in Toronto. Prior to this, she served in various positions in the Ministry of External Affairs and has been posted in Kathmandu and Paris, among other locations.
  • According to a release by the Ministry of External Affairs, India and Slovakia enjoy friendly bilateral ties untroubled by major tensions. Regular meetings take place between top-level political leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, among other leaders, have interacted with senior political figures from Slovakia.
  • Both countries also enjoy extensive political cooperations. They have concluded agreements ranging from defence and air services to economics and culture. India and Slovakia also routinely support each other’s candidacies for top positions in multilateral organizations like the International Court of Justice and the United Nations.

World Food Day 2022: 16th October

  • Every year on October 16 in observance of the date the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations was established in 1945, World Food Day is marked. The main objectives are to combat world hunger and work toward its eradication. The World Food Day 2022 will take place this year with more focus on moving forward together. Every UN member state, including India, observes the day.
  • The 16th of October 2022, a Sunday, will once again serve as the day for World Food Day 2022 celebrations.The theme for World Food Day 2022 is Leave NO ONE behind.
  • “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow” was the theme of World Food Day in 2021.
  • The day is celebrated with an emphasis on the production and consumption of secure food that will, in the long run, benefit the population, the economy, and the environment.

Badminton legend Prakash Padukone presented with SJFI Medal

  • The Sports Journalists’ Federation of India medal (SJFI medal) for 2019 was presented to badminton legendary star Prakash Padukone during a cordial ceremony at the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Vijay Amritraj was the inaugural recipient of the award, which was established in 2018. The COVID-19 outbreak caused a delay in the 2019 award ceremony.
  • In his remarks, Prakash Padukone discussed how badminton rose to become the “second most popular sport” in India.The award was created in 2018, and Vijay Amritraj was its first winner.
  • The 2019 award presentation was postponed because to the COVID-19 epidemic.
  • Cricket legend G.R. Viswanath was among those in attendance to honour the 1980 All England winner.

Winners of the YSR Lifetime Achievement Awards announced

  • The State Formation Day, November 1, will mark the presentation of the YSR Lifetime Achievement and YSR Achievement-2022 Awards, according to the State government. Reporters in Guntur were informed on Friday that the High Power Steering Committee’s suggested awards had been authorised by the Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

  • Krishna Mohan, who announced the winners, noted that all of the honorees were regular people who had made exceptional contributions to their respective fields, which included rural development, agriculture, culture, fine arts, and traditions.

15 states, UTs achievers in India's logistics performance index 2022

  • Andhra Pradesh, Assam, and Gujarat are three of the 15 States and UTs that are categorised as achievers in the logistics index chart for 2022, according to a study released by the commerce and industry ministry. The logistics performance Index 2022 measures the effectiveness of the logistical services required to encourage exports and economic expansion.
  • The other States listed in the ranking of the logistics performance index 2022 as rapid movers include Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Sikkim, and Tripura.
  • Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Mizoram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Ladakh, Nagaland, Jammu and Kashmir, and Arunachal Pradesh are among the 15 States and UTs rated in the aspirers category.
  • Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are among the other States and UTs in the achievers category.
  • The logistics performance index 2022 report ranks the States according to their logistics ecosystem, highlights the major logistics-related challenges faced by the stakeholders, and includes suggestive recommendations, according to the fourth LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) 2022 report, which was released by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
