पंजाब सरकार द्वारा लॉन्च किया गया 'COVA पंजाब' मोबाइल ऐप:

• पंजाब के मुख्य सचिव, करण अवतार सिंह ने एक मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन, COVA पंजाब लॉन्च किया है। COVA का मतलब अलर्ट है।
• यह ऐप स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण विभाग के परामर्श से सरकारी सुधार और लोक शिकायत विभाग द्वारा विभिन्न यात्रा और निवारक देखभाल सलाह साझा करके जागरूकता फैलाने के लिए विकसित किया गया है।
• ऐप लोगों को समय-समय पर सरकार द्वारा उपलब्ध कराए गए लक्षणों की जांच करने और उसके बाद दी गई सलाह का पालन करने के लिए सूचित करेगा।

आपदा जोखिम न्यूनीकरण (NPDRR) के लिए सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय मंच का पुनर्गठन किया:

• सरकार ने आपदा जोखिम न्यूनीकरण (NPDRR) के लिए राष्ट्रीय मंच का पुनर्गठन किया है।
• केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह इस एनपीडीआरआर के अध्यक्ष हैं, जो आपदा प्रबंधन पर एक बहु-हितधारक और बहु-क्षेत्रीय निर्णय लेने वाला निकाय है।

अशरफ गनी ने दूसरे कार्यकाल के लिए अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली:

• अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति अशरफ गनी ने 9 मार्च 2020 को दूसरे कार्यकाल के लिए पद की शपथ ली।
• वह 21 सितंबर 2014 को पहली बार चुने गए थे।
• अफ़ग़ानिस्तान की राजधानी- काबुल, मुद्रा- अफ़ग़ान अफ़गानी

पुरस्कार और मान्यता

वी प्रवीण राव ने एमएस स्वामीनाथन पुरस्कार जीता:

•  प्रोफेसर जयशंकर तेलंगाना राज्य कृषि विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति वी प्रवीण राव ने 2017-2019 की अवधि के लिए 7 वां डॉ एमएस स्वामीनाथन पुरस्कार जीता है।
• चयन समिति ने कृषि अनुसंधान, शिक्षण, विस्तार और प्रशासन के क्षेत्र में उनके योगदान को मान्यता देते हुए पुरस्कार के लिए प्रवीण राव को चुनने का फैसला किया है।
• यह पुरस्कार उन्हें जून 2020 में प्रदान किया जाएगा। प्रवीण राव ने भारत, इजरायल और दक्षिण अफ्रीका में सूक्ष्म सिंचाई पर 13 अनुसंधान और 6 परामर्श परियोजनाओं को संभाला।

विज्ञान और तकनीक

नासा ने मार्स 2020 रोवर को "दृढ़ता" नाम दिया है:

• नासा (नेशनल एरोनॉटिक्स एंड स्पेस एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन) ने 5 वें मंगल (लाल ग्रह) रोवर के नाम को दृढ़ता के रूप में घोषित किया। पहले रोवर को इसके कोडनेम मंगल 2020 के नाम से जाना जाता था।
• नाम 7 वीं कक्षा के छात्र अलेक्जेंडर माथेर द्वारा सुझाया गया था और इसकी घोषणा नासा के विज्ञान निदेशक थॉमस ज़ुर्बुचेन ने बर्क, वर्जीनिया के लेक ब्रैडॉक सेकेंडरी स्कूल में एक कार्यक्रम में की थी।

श्रेणीबद्ध

घरेलू सौर रूफटॉप प्रतिष्ठानों में गुजरात प्रथम स्थान पर है:

• गुजरात 64% घरेलू सौर प्रतिष्ठानों के साथ घरेलू सौर छत प्रतिष्ठानों की सूची में पहले स्थान पर है। 2 मार्च, 2020 तक राज्य में घरेलू छतों पर लगभग 50,915 प्रणालियाँ तय की जा रही हैं।
• गुजरात की राज्य सरकार ने 2022 तक इस योजना के तहत लगभग आठ लाख घरेलू बिजली उपभोक्ताओं को शामिल करने के लिए एक सौर रूफटॉप योजना “सूर्य गुजरात” को अपनाया है।
• महाराष्ट्र 5,513 प्रतिष्ठानों के साथ सूची में दूसरे स्थान पर है। पूरे देश में लगभग 79,950 सिस्टम लगाए गए हैं जिनकी क्षमता 322 मेगावाट है।

‘COVA Punjab’ mobile app launched by Punjab Govt.:

• Chief Secretary of Punjab, Karan Avtar Singh has launched a mobile application, COVA Punjab. COVA stands for Alert.
• This app has been developed by the Department of Government Reforms and Public Grievances in consultation with the Health and Family Welfare Department to spread awareness by sharing various travel and preventive care advisories.
• The app would inform people to check out for symptoms as provided by the government from time to time and follow the advisory given thereafter.

Government Reconstitutes National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR):

• The government has reconstituted the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR).
• The Union Home Minister Amit Shah is the chairperson of this NPDRR, which is a multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral decision making body on disaster management.

Ashraf Ghani Takes Oath as President of Afghanistan for Second Term:

• Afghanistan’s incumbent President Ashraf Ghani took oath of the post for a second term on 9 March 2020.
• He was elected for the first term on 21 September 2014.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

V Praveen Rao wins MS Swaminathan Award:

• Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao has won the 7th Dr MS Swaminathan Award for the period 2017-2019.
• The Selection Committee has decided to select Praveen Rao for the award recognising his contributions in the fields of agricultural research, teaching, extension and administration.
• The award will be conferred on him in June 2020. Praveen Rao handled 13 research & 6 consultancy projects on micro-irrigation in India, Israel and South Africa.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

NASA named Mars 2020 rover as “Perseverance”:

• NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) announced the name of the 5th Mars (red planet) rover as Perseverance. Previously the rover was known by its codename as Mars 2020.
• The name was suggested by Alexander Mather, 7th standard student and was announced by Nasa’s director of science, Thomas Zurbuchen at an event in Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia.

RANKING

Gujarat ranks 1st in domestic solar rooftop installations:

• Gujarat ranks first in the list for domestic solar rooftop installations with 64% of domestic solar installations. Nearly 50,915 systems being fixed on domestic rooftops in the State as on March 2, 2020.
• The State government of Gujarat has adopted a solar rooftop scheme “Surya Gujarat” to cover about eight lakh domestic electricity consumers under the scheme by 2022.
• Maharashtra ranks second in the list with 5,513 installations as on the same date. About 79,950 systems have been installed throughout the country has a capacity of 322 MW.
