CTET 2016: Eligibility criteria and Syllabus

CTET examination 2016 is all set to select the best of the teachers this year. Do you have a plan of a career in teaching? If yes, start putting together all your efforts and do it. But, before starting assembling all the prerequisites for preparation it is important to have an idea of the eligibility criteria and syllabus.

Eligibility criteria: The main intention of CTET is to shortlist and select efficient teachers for the teaching industry. This examination serves as a gateway to set a benchmark in the selection process. Those candidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree in their respective fields can apply for this examination.

Paper 1:

  • Higher secondary with at least 50% marks and 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education

  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks or Bachelor of Elementary Education.

Paper 2:

  • 50% marks in B.Ed. or 1 year B.Ed.

  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks.


 

Syllabus: Now, its high time to take a look at the syllabus of the examination:

  • Primary Stage (Paper-I):The candidates who intend to teach in classes I to V can opt for this paper. The Syllabus of this stage according to the sections which the candidates will appear for has been provided below:

    1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 questions):

    a) Child Development (Primary School Child) (15 Questions)

    b) Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs (5 Questions)

    c) Learning and Pedagogy (10 Questions)

2. Language I (30 Questions) :

a) Language Comprehension (15 Questions) : Reading unseen passages – two passages one prose or drama and one poem with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability (Prose passage may be literary, scientific, narrative or discursive)

b) Pedagogy of Language Development (15 Questions)

3. Language – II (30 Questions):

a) Comprehension (15 Questions)

b) Pedagogy of Language Development (15 Questions)

 4. Mathematics (30 Questions) :

a) Content (15 Questions)

b) Pedagogical issues (15 Questions)

 5. Environmental Studies (30 Questions)

  • Elementary Stage (Paper-II): This stage is for those candidates who intend to be a teacher for Classes VI to VII. The Syllabus of the Elementary Stage is given below:

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Questions) :

    a) Child Development (Elementary School Child) (15 Questions)

    b) Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs (5 Questions)

    c) Learning and Pedagogy (10 Questions)

  2. Language I (30 Questions):

    a) Language Comprehension (15 Questions): Reading unseen passages – two passages one prose or drama and one poem with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability (Prose passage may be literary, scientific, narrative or discursive)

    b) Pedagogy of Language Development (15 Questions):Learning and accquisition, principles of language teaching, role of listening and speaking, language skills etc.

4. Language – II (30 Questions):

a) Comprehension (15 Questions) :Two unseen prose passages (discursive or literary or narrative or scientific) with the question on comprehension, grammar, and verbal ability.

b) Pedagogy of Language Development (15 Questions) :Learning and accquisition, principles of language teaching, role of listening and speaking, language skills etc.

 5. Mathematics and Science (60 Questions) :

a. Mathematics (30 Questions)

  • Number System

  • Algebra

  • Geometry

b. Science (30 Questions)

  • Content

  • Pedagogical issues

6. Social Studies (60 Questions):

  • History

  • Pedagogical issues
