Reschedule of Tier 1 Exam

21st July 2020: As per the recent notice, the SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam has been postponed by the commission due to the current crisis across the country. As per the SSC CHSL Exam Dates, the Tier 1 exam is rescheduled for 12 October-16 October 2020, 19 October-21 October, and 26 October 2020. Candidates are advised to visit the official website on a regular basis to stay updated about all the latest news of the CHSL exam.

New CHSL Exam Dates Announced 

1st June 2020: The new CHSL Exam Dates was released by the commission. As per the SSC CHSL Latest News, the Tier-1 Exam is scheduled to be conducted from 17th to 21st August 2020 and 24th to 27th August 2020. Due to the current situation, the first stage of CHSL which was scheduled in March has been postponed.

Rescheduling of CHSL Exam

15th April 2020: As per the official notification released on 15th April 2020, the fresh dates for SSC CHSL 2019 Exam and CHSL Skill Test for 2018 will be decided after the 3rd of May,2020. The new rescheduled dates will be notified on the Commission, Regional /Sub-Regional Offices of SSC.

The Staff Selection Commission conducts recruitment drive every year to fill in various vacancies in different organizations and Ministries. The Combined Higher Secondary Level exam is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for postal assistants, sorting assistants, data entry operators, lower divisional clerks and employees for several departments and ministries of the government of India. CHSL is a three-tier exam.


The combined higher secondary level online recruitment process for the year 2020-21 will begin tentatively in the month of November 2020. The notification will be released by the commission on the official website. SSC CHSL Reservation Policy

As per the notification, reservations for the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Ex-servicemen (ESM) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD), etc. categories is available as per extant Government Orders.

  • The commission makes the selection of candidates in accordance with the vacancies reported by the concerned User Departments for various posts.
  • Candidates must note that the Commission does not have any role in deciding the number of vacancies of any User Department. 
  • User Departments are responsible for the implementation of reservation policy, maintaining reservation roster, and earmarking of vacancies for different categories.

SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria 2020

Candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria completely before proceeding with the application process. Here are the detailed SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level Eligibility Criteria as per the latest notification.


 A candidate must be a citizen of India, subject of Nepal/Bhutan, Tibetan refugee, a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India are eligible to appear for the SSC CHSL 2020 Exam.

Age Limit

  • The minimum age limit to apply for CHSL is 18 years and the maximum age limit should not exceed 27 years as on 01-01-2020 (i.e. Candidates born not before 02-01-1993 and not later than 01-01-2002) are eligible to apply for the CHSL Exam 2020.
  •  As per the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level Eligibility Criteria 2020, age relaxation is provided as per the government norms to candidates belonging to the reserved category.

Educational Qualification 

  • For LDC/ JSA, PA/ SA, DEO Posts: The candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
  • For the post of DEO (Data Entry Operator): The candidates should be 12th standard pass in science stream with Maths as a subject from a recognized government university.

The  SSC CHSL Application Form was available online from 3rd December 2019 to 10th January 2020. Candidates were allowed to fill the application form only through online mode. How to Apply for CHSL 2020?

Follow these Steps to Apply for the Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam.

Step 1: Visit the Official SSC website or click on our updated direct form link to be directed to the CHSL Registration page.

Step 2: Enter your credentials including your Full Name, Date Of Birth, functional mobile number, and email id.

Step 3: Once Your Registration is complete, you will receive login credentials for your account on your mobile phone.

Step 4: Once you have successfully registered on the website. Click on the link "Application Form."

Step 5: Fill the form with requested details & upload your documents to complete the application process.

Step 6: The last step of the application process is Fee payment. Pay the application fee via Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking and take 2 to 3 print outs for future reference. 

Application Fee

Application Fee of CHSL exam can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit cards or in cash at SBI Branches by generating SBI Challan.

  • Candidates have to pay Rs.100 as the application fee for SSC CHSL 2020 Recruitment.
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation and female candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.

SSC CHSL Application Form Correction 2020

Candidates must ensure to fill the form correctly so that there is no need for form correction. The Application Form correction depends on the exam authorities. However, candidates must be aware that filling the CHSL Online Form wrongly might lead to rejection of candidature. After the final submission, candidates will not be able to make any changes in the application form.

SSC CHSL Selection Process 2020

The selection process of the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level recruitment involves three stages:

  • Tier 1 - Computer-Based Test
  • Tier 2 - Descriptive Test
  • Tier 3 - Typing/Skill Test

Candidates who clear all 3 Tiers of the examination are selected on the basis of their merit. The candidate's personal preference is also taken into account with merit while allocating positions in departments. In order to be selected, the candidates have to clear all 3 Tiers ( Tier 1, Tier 2 & Tier 3) as per the SSC CHSL Notification 2020 PDF. Final documentation is done after all 3 tiers are cleared. Anybody who doesn't clear the documentation process is dropped from the selection process. 

How are Score Discrepancies Resolved in SSC CHSL? 

To resolve score discrepancies in the CHSL exam, the following procedure is followed by the commission.

  • Tier 1 + Tier 2 marks are calculated. 
  • The candidate score in Tier 2 is calculated.
  • The candidate's score in Stage 3 is calculated. If both candidates have the same score then the Date of birth of both students will be observed and the older candidate will be given preference. 
  • If the date of birth of both candidates is also similar then the alphabetical order of the candidate's name will be considered.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2020

  • Tier 1 examination will comprise sections such as Reasoning Ability, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness whereas Tier 2 exam consists of 2 questions from Letter/ Application and Essay Writing.

Changes in the Exam Pattern 2020

  • The time limit for Tier 1 has been reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes.

SSC CHSL Exam Day Instructions

he Staff Selection Commission released the revised SSC CHSL Exam Day Instructions due to the ongoing crisis across the country. Candidates must make sure to follow all the instructions carefully on the day of the exam. Otherwise, they will not be allowed inside the examination hall.

  • Candidates appearing for the exam must make sure to carry the SSC CHSL Admit Card.
  • Any mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, headphones, scanner, camera, storage devices of any kind shouldn’t be taken inside.
  • Smartwatches or any basic watch is also not permitted.
  • You can view the time on your monitor screens for CBT and a clock will be fitted inside the exam room to check the time.
  • Do not carry stationery items or loose paper inside the examination hall. Staff Selection Commission does provide loose paper and pen for rough work.
  • Female applicants should not wear Salwars/patialas/heavy/traditional dresses. Therefore, female applicants can only wear shirts/tee-shirts and jeans/leggings.
  • Anyone at the exam center not following the Exam Day Instructions and Dress Code can face negative consequences.
  • Male candidates should not wear suits, bracelets, or cuff-links.
  • Only simple shirt/tee shirt and jeans for all the candidates (both males and females)
  • No candidate should carry expensive or flashy jewellery.

  • As given in the CHSL Notification PDF 2020, the expected Cut Off is made by reviewing the analyzing the previous year cut off marks difficulty level of the paper, candidates appearing for the exam, and the total number of vacancies.
  • There is no sectional cut off for the CHSL 2020.
  • The calculation will be done on the basis of the number of applicants applied for the exam, the difficulty level of the exam, and the performance of the candidates.

How many vacancies are there for CHSL Recruitment 2020?

As per the notification, the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level 2020 Recruitment is expected to fill more than 4893 vacancies out of which 1269 for LDC/JSA, 3598 for PA/SA, and 26 for DEO posts.

What is the in-hand Salary of CHSL employees?

In-Hand Salary for selected employees will be in the range of Rs 18,777 to Rs 31,045. Salary for each post is different, post-wise salary details are listed below. 

  • LDC Salary Details - Rs 18,777 to Rs 22,411
  • Salary for DEO post is Rs 25,165- Rs 31,045
  • Salary for PA/SA post is Rs 25,165- Rs 31,045

When will the CHSL 2020 Tier 1 Exam be conducted?

AS per the latest news announced by the commission, the Tier 1 exam which was scheduled for the month of August 2020 has been postponed due to the current crisis across the country. The new SSC CHSL Exam of Tier 1 is 12-16 October 2020, 19-21 October 2020, and 26 October 2020.

How many stages do SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level 2020 have?

SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam consists of 3 stages -

  • Stage 1 - Online Test 
  • Stage 2- Descriptive Exam
  • Stage 3- Skill Test (applicable for select posts only)

Is there an interview in CHSL?

No. As per the SSC CHSL Notification, there is no interview in CHSL Recruitment. Candidates will be selected based on the marks scored in Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. It is importnat for candidates to score above the SSC CHSL Cut Off to get selected for the next stage of the exam. 

I have not completed my Graduation, can I still apply for the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level 2020 Exam?

Yes. As per the notification, the candidates in their final year are also eligible to apply for the CHSL Recruitment 2020. However, they have to submit the final year mark sheet at the time of document verification. The minimum eligibility criteria to apply for the exam is to be 12th Standard pass.
