Overview: IIM Jammu announces revamped IPM 2026 admission policy, adding academic weightage and retaining sectional cut-offs for rigorous selection.

IIM Jammu has officially released its admission policy for the 2026 IPM batch, and there are a few big changes that could impact how you plan the months ahead.

The good part? The updates make the selection process more transparent and predictable. Let’s walk through the new rules together, step by step.

Academic Marks Now Part of Final Selection

For the first time, IIM Jammu will give weightage to Class 10th and Class 12th marks.

Earlier, only the JIPMAT score was considered for admission.

The new merit list weightage is as follows:

Components

Percentage

JIPMAT Percentile

70

Class 10 Marks

15

Class 12 Marks

15

This change emphasises consistent academic performance and not just exam preparation.

Sectional Cut-Offs Remain Mandatory

IIM Jammu has confirmed that sectional cut-offs will continue in all three JIPMAT sections:

  • VARC
  • QA
  • DILR

Only candidates who clear all three sections will be considered for final selection. Below are the category-wise sectional cut-offs.

Eligibility Criteria for IPM

The eligibility criteria remain mostly unchanged:

  • Students who passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, can apply.
  • A two-year drop after Class 12 is allowed.
  • Class 10 must have been passed in 2020 or later.
  • Minimum marks: 60% in Class 10 and 12 (55% for SC/ST/PwD).
  • Students from IB and IGCSE international boards are also eligible.

This makes IIM Jammu slightly more flexible than some other IIMs.

Clear and Structured Tie-Breaking Rules Introduced

To handle cases where students end up with identical composite scores, IIM Jammu has outlined a clear tie-breaking order:

  1. Higher JIPMAT score
  2. Higher Class 12th marks
  3. Higher Class 10th marks
  4. Higher sectional scores (VARC → QA → DILR)
  5. More recent Class 12th appearance
  6. More recent Class 10th appearance

Younger candidates may be ranked lower in rare final cases.

This structured approach brings clarity to the ranking process.

Offer Acceptance Fee and Refund Policy

Selected candidates must pay an Offer Acceptance Fee of ₹50,000 within the specified deadline.

Refund rules:

  • ₹49,000 will be refunded if the candidate withdraws on or before 2 August 2026.
  • After registration, no refund will be given on either the acceptance fee or the semester fee.

These timelines also hint that JIPMAT 2026 could be conducted as early as April, with results likely in July.

Conclusion

IIM Jammu's IPM 2026 admission policy brings more structure, more transparency, and a greater emphasis on academic consistency. With academic scores now influencing admissions and clearer rules for tie-breaking and eligibility, the selection process aims to be more holistic and fair.
