Allowance and Perks for Indian Air Force Officers

In addition to their basic salary, Indian Air Force Officers receive a variety of allowances and perks. Here are some of the allowances available to them:

Military Service Pay (MSP) 

Newly inducted Flying Officers receive an MSP of INR 6,000 per month. This is considered part of the basic pay and is used to calculate other allowances such as Pensions, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Dearness Allowance (DA). 

Transport Allowance (TA) 

The Transport Allowance varies by location. For Flying Officers in major metro cities, it is INR 3,200 per month plus applicable DA. It is INR 1,600 per month plus applicable DA for those in other cities and towns.

House Rent Allowance (HRA) 

The HRA is location-dependent, with different percentages for Class X, Y, and Z cities. Class X cities, which include major metros, provide a higher percentage of HRA.

Kit Maintenance Allowance 

Flying Officers receive a monthly Kit Maintenance Allowance of INR 500.

Grade Pay (GP) 

Newly commissioned Flying Officers receive a Grade Pay of INR 5,400 per month.

Dearness Allowance (DA) 

DA is linked to the consumer price index and adjusts based on average changes in the cost of goods and services over time. It increases proportionally with the consumer price index.

Flying Allowance 

Newly inducted Flying Officers in the Flying branch receive a Flying Allowance of INR 11,250 monthly.

Technical Allowance 

Newly inducted officers in the Technical branch receive a Technical Allowance of INR 2,500 per month for tier 1 courses and INR 3,750 per month for tier 2 courses.

Only newly commissioned officers in the Flying and Technical Branches qualify for the Flying Allowance, valued at INR 11,250 per month, and the Technical Allowance, valued at INR 2,500 per month.
