SSC Stenographer Selection Process – Complete Selection process of Written Test, Skill Test and Document Verification
SSC Stenographer Selection Process
The Staff Selection Commission conducts a Computer Based Examination for Recruitment of Stenographer Grade “C”(Group B Non-gazetted) and Stenographer Grade “D”, Group “C” Non-Gazetted Posts. Selection Process for SSC Stenographer Grade C and Grade D comprises of Written test or Computer Based Test, Skill Test, and Document verification. Examination Paper Pattern of written Exam:
SSC Stenographer exam consists of two stages:
- Computer based written test
- Skill Test
The SSC Stenographer written exam is a computer-based exam. The paper includes three subjects having multiple choice questions – Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and English Language & comprehension. Scheme of Examination of Written Test/CBT:
The details of computer-based examination are as below –

- The question paper will be of Objective Multiple choice types.
- Questions are available in Hindi and English except Part-III.
- Part III of the exam will be available only in English.
- There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
The candidates will have to appear for the stenography test or skill test involving a test of typing. They will judge candidates on the basis of speed and accuracy of typing.
Skill test in Stenography:
Candidates who obtain qualifying marks in the written exam will qualify for a Skill Test. The skill test will involve a typing test that is qualifying in nature. Skill test will be based on Stenography.
The candidates who appear for the stenography skill test and will be given dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi(as per choice) at a speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “C” and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “D”. You will have to transcribe the matter on a computer. Candidates will have to know stenography in both Hindi and English, being a fundamental requirement of the job as a stenographer.

Document Verification Process would comprise of verification of identity documents like AADHAR Card, PAN card, Voter ID, Drivers license, etc. Shortlisted candidates must also produce original and photocopy of mark sheets of Class 10, 12, Degree, Post-graduation or equivalent certificates. Candidates may also produce work experience certificates if any.
