SSC Chairman Message regarding the NDTV Report on SSC Exams

The Chairman of SSC or Staff Selection Commission, Ashim Khurana has sent out a Message to all SSC aspirants. The message is regarding a news discussion that happened on NDTV on the 17th and 18th January 2018. The chairman has said that the channel has reported the matter without proper appreciation of the overall context.


NDTV in its televised report on 17th and 18th Jan 2018 focused on two exams SSC CGL 2016 and SSC CHSL 2015. In gist of the whole matter, the channel made some comments regarding SSC CHSL 2015 and SSC CGL 2016 which according to the channel have been going on for too long and that far stretched with no immediate outcomes. However, the chairman feels that the SSC is tasked with a larger responsibility of around eight examinations every year and three limited departmental competitive examinations.

Regarding SSC CHSL 2015:

However, out of all selected candidates for SSC CHSL 2015, dossiers of 8,900 candidates was sent to respective user departments in September-October 2017. For the remaining 294 candidates the verification process of the concerned candidates and Central Forensic Science Laboratories or CFSL.

The Chairman has reiterated that the role of the Commission ends here and the issuance of the appointment letters to the bona fide nominated candidates is after verification. The issue was, however, unknown to the anchor of NDTV conducting the discussion.

According to the latest notification from SSC, the SSC CHSL 2016 Final result will be declared on 16th February 2018.

The number of Registered candidates exponentially gone up:

The number of candidates registered for various examinations has gone up exponentially from 9.94 lakh in 2008-09 to 2.34 crores during 2016-17. In the last two years from January 2016 to January 2018, the SSC has conducted 27 examinations for 3,37,65,415 candidates.  It conducted 18 All India Open Competitive examinations and 9 examinations for recruitment of selection posts for a total of 3,37,65,415 candidates.

The total nominations for the recruitment made by the commission in the last three years from 2015-16 to 2017-18 is given in the table below:

Unlike what was said on NDTV, the Chairman has said that the SSC functions in a transparent manner laying emphasis on the merit-based selection of candidates.  He quashed tone of the discussion of the channel in the televised discussion that was held recently.
