SBI PO Syllabus 2018
The official notification has been released for SBI PO recently. The online application process began on 21st April 2018 & the last date is 13th May 2018. As SBI PO Schedule is very tight so this is the right time for you to start your preparation. Before beginning, it is very much essential to know the detailed exam pattern, syllabus along with the latest changes made by SBI this year. Please note that this year, the Prelims result will be announced within a week after the exam conduction. You will get around 3 weeks only to prepare for the Mains exam. So, we encourage you to prepare for both the phases from now. You won’t get much time to prepare after the prelims exam.
SBI PO Exam Pattern 2018 – Overview
SBI PO Selection process consist of following 3 stages:
- Phase I – Prelims Stage
- Phase II – Mains Stage (Objective & Descriptive Paper)
- Phase III – Group Exercise & Interview
SBI PO Final Selection 2018
You have to qualify in Phases II (Mains) & Phase III separately. The Final merit is based on:
Final Merit List = Mains Marks (Objective & Descriptive) + GE & Interview
The final merit list is prepared after aggregating converted marks of mains exam, GE & Interview out of 100. The selection will be done from the top merit ranked students in each category.
SBI PO Syllabus & Exam Pattern – Prelims 2018
The Prelims stage is only qualifying in nature. There is no sectional cut off. However, students approximately 10 times the numbers of vacancies in each category will be short listed for the Main Exam the from top of the merit list.

(a) Reasoning ability: The topics included are data sufficiency, visual reasoning, critical reasoning, logical reasoning, coded inequalities, tabulation, puzzle, blood relations, decoding and coding, syllogism, analogies, sequential output tracing, codes, directions and arrangements
(b) Quantitative aptitude: The syllabus includes number system, simplifications, surds and indices, roots and averages, profit and loss, percentages, ratio and proportion, time , speed and distance , simple and compound interest, stocks and shares, mensuration- cylinder, cone, sphere, heights and distances, permutation and combinations, probability, data interpretation

(c) English Language: This has questions from detect the error, comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, active and passive voice, idioms and phrases, cloze test, one word, direct and indirect narration, multiple meaning/ error spotting, completing the paragraph
SBI PO Syllabus & Exam Pattern – Mains 2018
Students 3 times (approx.) of the category wise vacancies from the top of the merit list (subject to a student scoring minimum qualifying score in aggregate) will be shortlisted for the next round i.e Group Exercise & Interview.

SBI PO Mains Exam has 2 parts & both are conducted online:
- Objective test – 200 marks
- Descriptive test – 50 marks

This year SBI has not mentioned marks allocated to each section in the official notification.

- SBI PO Descriptive Test
The descriptive paper of SBI PO Mains exam is of 50 marks and 30 minutes duration. This test is conducted in online mode immediately after the completion of objective test. This test assesses your ability to write letter and essay in English.

(a) Reasoning Aptitude: The topics included are syllogism, puzzle, blood relation, logical reasoning, data sufficiency, passage and conclusion, statement and argument, order and ranking, coding and decoding, and making judgement, double line up, course of action, input output, linear seating arrangement.
(b) Computer aptitude: This includes the basics of computer knowledge, History of computers,Windows operating system, Hardware and software, Input and Output devices, Basic Functionalities of MS-Office( MS-word, MS-Excel, MS-Power Point), Database Managements system, Internet terms and services,Modern Day Technology, Networking and communication, Computer Abbreviations, Hacking, Security and Viruses, Logic gates, Shorty Keys.
(c) Data analysis and interpretation: This is scoring and easy and has questions from tables, pie charts, bar graphs, data analysis, line graphs, probability and series,Data Interpretation
(d) General Economics and Banking Awareness: This has questions asked from the banking sector, economics and current affairs related to these, and marketing. Reading daily newspapers and watching television will help in building this knowledge.
⇒ SBI PO Syllabus 2018 – Descriptive Test
The syllabus of SBI PO descriptive paper includes:
(a) Letter Writing
- Informal Letter: Writing letters to friends, relatives, parents, siblings
- Formal Letter: Writing Letter to Bank Managers, News Editors, Govt Department Officers.
- Letters on saving the account, net banking and education loan.
(b) Essay Writing
(c) Precise Writing
(d) Paragraph writing
SBI PO Phase 3: Group discussion and interview
The group discussion is of 20 marks and the interview round is for 30 marks. Students who have cleared phase 2 are eligible for phase 3.
