SBI Clerk/ Assistant Salary
As per last year’s SBI Clerk Notification, the SBI Clerk pay scale is:
7200-400/3-8400-500/3-9900-600/4-12300-700/7-17200-1300/1-18500-800/1-19300.
The total starting emoluments of a Clerical Cadre employee payable at Metros like Mumbai will be around Rs. 19500 per month inclusive of D.A. and other allowances at the current rate. There may be minor discrepancies in the allowances which be based on the area of posting.

SBI Clerk’s Job Profile Roles and Responsibilities
When a person visit’s any public sector bank, the first person he/ she has to contact is a clerk for any sorts of guidance/ inquiry.
The roles and responsibilities involved with the SBI clerk post are-
- SINGLE WINDOW OPERATOR (SWO)
The following are the normal duties of a candidate in the clerical cadre. For the following duties, there shall be no special pay-
- Acknowledgments of emails received
- Receiving cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and other like instruments other than bills and providing acknowledgment in the counterfoil.
- Cheque books delivery subject to authorization by a competent authority.
- An issue of cash receipts.
- Currency notes recounting by cash department staff.
- Passing and the cash payment of all cheques/ withdrawal forms/ bankers’ cheques/ gift cheques etc.
- Passing of clearing and transfer cheques, vouchers, (whether credits or debits)
- Receipts of cash and issuance of pre-signed drafts/ gift cheques/ travellers’ cheques/ pay order/ bank orders etc.
- HEAD CASHIER
Along with the duties of clerical cadre, head cadre will also have to perform activities like holding bank’s cash, key and/or other valuables in safe custody jointly with an officer, being responsible for transactions of cash department:
- Verification of vernacular signatures/endorsements.
- Countersigning cheques and/or drafts (on selves or correspondence), payment orders, deposit reaccepts, etc.
- Attending government treasury work.
- In charge of clearing and godown departments etc.
- Passing independently clearing and transfer cheques, vouchers, etc. (whether credits or debits) and cash vouchers.
3. SPECIAL ASSISTANTS (SA)
Special Assistants will be accountable to run the department under them. Their duties will involve supervision of other clerks’ work and:
- Passing independently (manually or online) cash instruments
- Clear and transfer cheques and vouchers (whether credits or debits)
- Signing vouchers, checks, drafts, mail transfers, pay orders, advice such as non-payment advice, inter-branch fate calling advice, bill schedules, demand notices, statement certificates, etc.
- Checking (manually or online) current, savings and other accounts.
- Explanation of bank products’ features and services to customers and reply to their queries
- UNIVERSAL TELLER (UT)
Additional to the duties involved in clerical cadre, the duties of UT are as follows-
- Receive cheques/ withdrawal forms/ demand drafts/ bankers’ cheques, process, verify that the instrument is correctly drawn, verify customers account details, operational instructions, and verification of endorsements
- Verify signature of customers, post transactions in a branch computer system and authenticate/ independently pass and make payment of cheques/ withdrawals forms/ demand drafts/ bankers’ cheques.
- Receive Cash and whenever necessary, stamp, sign and issue counter slips/acknowledgments.
- To update the passbooks.
- To prepare, print and issue remittance instruments e. DD/MT/BC and sign them independently.
- Explanation of bank products’ features and services to customers and reply to their queries
- AGRICULTURAL ASSISTANTS:
Additional to the duties involved to clerical cadre, the duties of Agricultural Assistant’s duties are as follows-
- Assisting bank’s lending and/or operations for agricultural development and/or financial assistance to small- scale enterprises (other than small scale industries) such as vegetable/fruit vendors, artisans, self-employed persons, etc.
- Distribute and collect application forms and to assist the farmers/small borrowers in filling forms.
- Scrutinize application forms, farm plans, etc. and to make sure that the applications are complete in all respect.
- To take necessary steps to ensure that the periodical details, as called for, are received from the farmers/small borrowers on time.
- Keep constant touch with farmers and to bring any adverse features to the management.
- To verify farms, all farms machinery, equipment, tractors, live stocks, pump sets at stipulated intervals.
- Verify proper utilization of the bank’s loans or the progress in work in respect of which loans are granted and to furnish reports on such verifications
- To assist in the deposit mobilization efforts by encouraging farmers/small borrowers to deposit their savings in the bank.
- To collect information about the condition of crops in the village.
- To collect necessary data from the determination of village adoption for the financing of agriculture, like farmers’ land holdings, availability of infrastructural facilities, the source of irrigation, use of tractors, pump sets, etc. credit facilities, available in the village, recovery performance, etc.
- To maintain liaison with land Record and Registration Offices and other Governmental/Developmental agencies for the expeditious handling of the banks’ work.
