The recruitment notification for filling 26,502 posts of Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician has been released. If you wish to make a career in the Railway department, this is a very good opportunity for you. The online application submission started on 3rd February 2018. The last date to apply is 31st March 2018. The exam is scheduled to be held tentatively in April/May 2018. The exact exam date has not been officially announced. We will update the RRB ALP exam date for all the Tiers as soon as it is released officially. The admit card for the exam will be released around 1 to 2 weeks before the exam date. RRB ALP/Technician Application Fee

Rs. 500 for General and OBC candidates and Rs. 250 for the reserved category candidates.

 Revised RRB ALP Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit – The upper age limit has been relaxed by two years for each category – 30 years for unreserved category, 33 years for OBC category, and 35 years for SC/ST category as on 1st July 2018.
  • Educational Qualification – You must have a B.Tech/B.E. degree or matriculation certificate or SSLC plus IT from recognized institutes of NCVT/SCVT in the relevant trade. Or you must have SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade. Or you must have a 3 years Diploma degree in Electrical/Electronics/Automobile/Mechanical Engineering/Combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution in lieu of ITI.

RRB ALP Selection Process

There are three phases of the examination. The first round is the First Stage CBT. If you clear this round, you have to sit for the Second Stage CBT. For After that, you have to go for Documents Verification round.

ALP & Technician Exam Pattern

First Stage CBT

This is the first round of the exam. And the RRB ALP exam date for this stage is in April/May 2018, tentatively. You have to answer 75 Multiple Choice Questions within 60 minutes. To ace this section, you have to prepare on the following topics – Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness.

Second Stage CBT

You need to complete the 2nd phase of the exam within 150 minutes. And you need to complete Part A within 90 minutes. The paper consists of 100 questions. For this section, you need to prepare the following topics – Mathematics, Reasoning Ability, Basic Science and Engineering, General Awareness & Current Affairs. Part B consists of 75 questions that you need to complete within 60 minutes. This part consists of questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by DGET.

Computer-Based Aptitude Test (for ALP posts)

Document Verification and Empanelment

This is the final round of the exam phase. If you successfully qualify the documents verification round and the Medical Test, you get appointed. The RRB ALP exam date for Documents Verification round will be announced later.



RRB ALP & Technician Responsibilities

  • First and foremost, you need to assist the Loco Driver. You have to help him/her fine-tune the locomotive.
  • You need to perform minor repairs of the locomotive.
  • Also, you need to help the Loco Drive in calling out the signal once sighted.
  • Most importantly, you need to perform regular checks on the efficiency of the locomotive.
