### Ratio & Proportion Quiz- Quick Notes

#### Facts about Ratio & Proportion

• Ratio is written as 5:6, where 5 and 6 are known as terms.
• First term i.e. 5 is known as Antecedent.
• Second term i.e. 6 is known as Consequent.
• 22223232 is called as duplicate ratio of 2:3.
• 2323:3333 is called as triplicate ratio of 2:3.
• 2–√23–√3 is sub-duplicate ratio of 2:3.
• a13a13 : b13b13 is sub-triplicate ratio of 2:3.

#### Important Points to Remember

1) In case ratio is written in the form of C:D, it is said to be in linear form & in case it is written in form of A/B, it is said to be in fractional form.

2) There is no unit for ratio. It is mere number.

3) The equality of two ratios is known as proportion i.e. a/b = c/d

If a/b = c/d , then it is also equal to a+c/b+d

Invertendo : If a/b = c/d , then b/a = d/c

Alterendo : If a/b = c/d , then a/c = b/d

Componendo : If a/b = c/d , then a+b/b = c+d/d

Dividendo : If a/b = c/d , then a-b/b = c-d/d

Componendo and Dividendo : If a/b = c/d , then a+b/a-b = c+d/c-d

4) If c/d = e/f = g/h =…… so on, then c,d,e,f… are in G.P.

Proof: Let c/d = e/f = g/h =k
c= dk, e= fk, g= hk
Therefore, e= dk^2 and g= dk^2
All are in G.P.

5) If a>b and a same positive number is added to each of the terms, ratio decreases.

6) If a<b and a same positive number is added to each of the terms, then ratio increases.

7) When we multiply/ divide a number, ratio won’t get affected.

8) Proportions i.e. c:d = e:f
c and f are known as extremes
d and e are known as means.

9) In c:d :: e:f, f is fourth proportional to c,d and e.

10) If x is third proportional to a,b then it is written as a:b :: b:x.
