RRB Railway Group D Syllabus

RRB  has issued a notification for the recruitment of Group D Vacancy at 62907 posts. This is indeed a great news for all the Railway Aspirants as the vacancies are huge this time. Interested candidates can apply by 31st March 2018 The vacancies are for Gateman, Pointsman, Track Maintainer, Helper in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Engineering/Signal & Telecommunication departments, Porters, Gang-Man, Cabin-Man, Key-Man, Track-Man, Switch-Man, Lever-Man, Welder, Shunter, Fitter under RRB Group D Recruitment 2018. The Railway group D syllabus (RRB Group D Syllabus) is mandatory for all those who are preparing for the upcoming RRB Group D exam 2018.

 Railway Group D Syllabus – Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

A Physical test will be conducted from the shortlisted candidates of the written test. The selection criteria is as below:

Male: Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 (one thousand) meters in 4 (four) minutes & 15 (fifteen) seconds in one chance.

Female: Should be able to run for a distance of 400 (four hundred) meters in 3 (three) minutes & 10 (ten) seconds in one chance.

The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be qualifying in nature. The Person with Disabilities (PWD) candidates are exempted from appearing in this test. However, the next round for PWD candidates will be a medical examination round.

Railway Group D Syllabus – Document Verification (DV)

Once you qualify the PET, the final stage will be Document Verification (DV) round. Candidates will be called for Document Verification on the basis of the marks in the first stage computer-based test as well as their performance in PET. Candidates called for DV will also have to pass a necessary medical fitness test.

Eligibility Criteria Railway RRB Group D Recruitment 2018:


  • Age as on 1stJune 2018: 18 to 31 years
  • Upper Age limit is applicable for reserved candidates as per government rules

Educational Qualification

10th Pass or ITI from recognized institutions by NCVT/SCVT or equivalent or National Apprenticeship certificate granted by NCVT


10th plus NAC granted by NCVT or 10th Pass plus ITI From institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT.

Railway Group D  Selection Process :

Candidates selection will be based on the written examination, if anyone will not clear the written examination then will not be shortlisted for the next round.

  • Written Exam
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  • Document and candidature verification
  • Medical examination

Stages in RRB Group D Selection Process:

  • Stage I: Computer Based Test
  • 2nd Stage: Physical Efficiency Test
  • 3rd Stage: Document Verification

Let us see the details of these stages before proceeding to the syllabus section.

Stage I – Computer Based Test (CBT)

The pattern of computer based test will be as below:

  • There is negative marking for each incorrect answer.
  • 1/3 of the marks allotted for each question shall be deducted for wrong answer.
  • The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices.


Stage II – Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Those candidates who qualify the computer based test will be eligible for Physical Efficiency Test. The physical test criteria is as below:

For Male Candidates

  • Should be able to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down.
  • Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance.

For Female Candidates

  • Should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down.
  • Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

Stage III – Document Verification (DV)

  • This is the final stage of selection
  • Based on the performance in the Computer based exam and physical efficiency test, shortlisted candidates will be called for Document verification.
  • Thereafter, the final selection will be made.
