In an exam like IBPS RRB, time management is a must to score well and ultimately crack the exam. In IBPS RRB, you need to qualify in the IBPS RRB prelims to sit for the mains exam. The IBPS RRB officer scale 1 prelims exam is scheduled from 9th, 10th and 16th September 2017 and office assistant prelims exam is scheduled from 17th Sep, 23rd Sep, and 24th Sep 2017. It often becomes stressful for students to manage time when they have to answer multiple sections. Before getting started with IBPS RRB Time Management Tips, it is extremely crucial to understand the exam pattern of the exam. The exam pattern for both Officer Scale 1 & Office Assistant is same.

Manage time wisely
There will be 80 questions worth 80 marks in the IBPS RRB Prelims exam paper. You have only 45 minutes to solve all the questions. This ideally gives you only 0.5 seconds per question and you should not take more time than that. But practically, it is impossible to solve all the questions. Therefore, have a clear idea of which questions to solve first and which questions to solve later instead of solving all at a time. Firstly, solve the easier one followed by moderate ones & if time remains then go for difficult questions.

Let us now take a look at section wise time management and learn how to manage time and solve maximum questions in both the sections-
In the reasoning section, you get trickier questions and you need to strengthen your logical reasoning skills to answer these questions. You can expect near about 40 questions from this section which also can be time taking at times. There may be some questions which are more time taking as compared to other questions. Instead of wasting time on questions which you find extremely tough to solve, you need to have a wise insight of which questions to choose and why. You should go by the easy questions first and tougher ones later approach. Try to solve questions in the following order as given below-
Order of Attempt:
- Coding & Decoding
- Blood Relations
- Directions & Distances
- Ordering & Ranking
- Arrangement & Pattern
- Circular/Linear Arrangement
- Floor Based Puzzles
- Miscellaneous Puzzles
Always try to solve questions from arrangement & puzzles at the end.
This section is more time consuming as compared to reasoning section. But if you practice well, you will easily be able to fetch marks in this section. Attempt the topics in the order mentioned below-
- Number Series
- Quadratic Equation
- Data Interpretation (DI)
- Miscellaneous – Average, Percentage, Age, Probability, Time & Work, Speed & Distance.
If in 35-40 seconds you did not get the pattern of number series then leave it & move ahead. The 2 or 3 sets of DI Qs are in IBPS RRB PO exam consisting of 10-15 marks. Out of all miscellaneous topics asked, always choose those questions which seem to be straight and you are confident of solving them.
IBPS RRB Exams- Dos and Don’ts
Here are some major Dos and Don’ts in IBPS RRB exams-
- Do not panic once the exam starts. Keep calm and start with the section you are most confident about.
- Do read all questions properly first. Read twice or more than twice if required but make sure you read the questions right.
- Do attempt the questions in the time you have assigned to each section and try not to spend more time than that.
- Do make sure that you attempt 50 plus questions.
- Do not spend too much time on any one question.
- Do not involve any guesswork.
- Do not forget to take along the photograph (same as that on the admit card) and Xerox as well as the original ID proof with you.
