The exam comprises of three sections: Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, and English Language. It’s an exam where sectional cut-off marks applies. So, it’s helpful to be skilled in all of these equally important sections mentioned below.

1. Quantitative Aptitude:

This section carries 35 marks; and it has 4 topics that you should focus on.

Simplification or Approximation – You need to be fast to solve these questions. Learning about the BODMAS rule, decimals, approximation, fractions will help you get better at such problems. About 5 problems are expected from this topic.

Number Series – Practice is the key to solving these questions. Solve problems regarding the arithmetic series, geometric series, harmonic series, squares, cubes, square roots, cube roots, etc. You should expect another 5 problems from this part.

Data Interpretation – It’s a highly important topic and a majority of the questions are asked from this part. Try to solve as many questions as you can, that should include pie charts, line graphs, bar graphs, tabular forms, etc. Expect as many as 15 problems from this topic.

Quadratic Equation – Learn the factorization method properly and memorize the formulae. You might be asked 5 questions from this topic.

Data Sufficiency – Arithmetic questions include various topics like the number system, averages, profit and loss, time speed and distance, ratios and proportions, and many other topics.

2. Reasoning Ability:

Comprising of 35 questions, this section might seem easy at first but without effort and practice, you might lose a lot of time. While it may come naturally to the handful of geniuses, for the rest of us commoners, it’s good to practice as much as possible.

Here are the 4 topics you should focus on:

Seating Arrangement – You should expect around 15 questions from this section that includes linear and circular arrangement. Linear arrangement comprises of single or double row, facing or facing away from each other; circular arrangement comprises of uni and bi-directional problems.

Coding & Decoding – Here, you have to decode the coded relation between letters. You can expect around 5 questions from this topic. Try to learn all the possible patterns in which a word can be coded or decoded.

Syllogism – Around 5 questions will ask you to draw conclusions from a set of given (that’s mostly assumed) prepositions.

Blood Relations – A few questions will definitely be asked about blood relations. So, you can’t afford to skip this.

3. English Language:

This section comprises of 30 marks. Some may have a strong command over this language while others may find it their weakness. However, regardless of which category you fall in, you need to practice a reasonable amount.

English Comprehension – Here, a passage will be given; based on your understanding of the passage, you have to answer a few questions. Do expect around 10 questions from this topic.

Cloze Test – A passage will be given with some words missing; you have to write down the missing words. If you have a habit of reading and speaking English regularly, you’ll perform better here.

Error Spotting – Expect a minimum of 5 spot the error questions to be asked. You need to have a good command over grammar to ace this one.

Para Jumble Questions – Don’t skip this topic as 5 para jumble questions are sure to come in the IBPS PO prelims.
