Women constitute around 50% of the world’s population. And many of them are unemployed due to unequal opportunity for women at work places and during their educational life. Empowering women would definitely lead to an increase in the overall development of the society.

Obstacles In The Path Of Empowering Women:

The discrimination against women is apparent from the repeated cases of female infanticide in a country like India. Women are expected to be responsible for taking care of the house and the whole family. In many societies and cultures, women are barred from participating in social, economic, and other activities. What is normal for a man to do might be considered controversial for women.

To remove such evils faced by women, we have to take a number of steps and enforce them together.

How To Implement Women Empowerment:

Education is one of the major steps we can take to overcome the challenges against women empowerment. Women irrespective of their caste and culture should be given the power to choose their educational fields and pursue their choice of course.

Here, education also includes making people aware of the rights of a woman. Elders and children alike should be educated about the equality concept.

Another effective step would be to enforce laws to protect women. Definitely, these laws should be made in such a way that no one can misuse these rules. Implementing such rules will build the confidence and determination of career-driven and ambitious women.

Furthermore, people need to realize that women empowerment – or for that matter, anything and everything – starts at home. Equal status should be given to all members irrespective of their gender. This will ensure that the future generations have the concept of women empowerment imbibed inside their minds.

What The Indian Constitution Has Done To Empower Women:

Some basic fundamental rights provided to women include the right to equality, prohibition of discrimination based on gender, and provision of equal opportunity of employment. The Indian Constitution also states that women should get equal pay for equal amount of work.

Moreover, the Government has also initiated a number of schemes to overcome the challenges to women empowerment in India. Some of them are: Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, Women Helpline Scheme, and Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women.

What we can learn from the decades of development and growth is that – no development is complete with half of the population being discriminated against. We can not rely solely on the Government or the other authorities to empower women. We, the commoners, have to stand united and overcome all the obstacles and challenges that hinder the development of the society and nation as a whole.
