Comparison and the Pros and Cons of CAT Vs State level MBA’s:
CAT continue to preferred choice of students who are very bright. CAT is a very difficult exam and it is certainly no cakewalk to get into IIM’s or any of the top 100 B-Schools. In comparison, the State level MBA’s are much easier and are meant even for average students. It is to be noted that passing out of IIM’s means fat pay packages unlike state level MBA’s that do not pay as much. For most students, State level MBA’s seem to be a preferred choice as it is ideal and feasible for the Indian middle class to study and pass state level MBA’s. The IIM’s are very difficult to get into as it is meant for those who are both academically bright, intellectually sharp and also have good financial backing. The fees of IIMs are more compared to those of state level MBA’s
On a finer note, a pass out of IIM has far more advantages over State level MBA’s. However, State level MBAs too are doing a good job. Few people pass out of the IIMs every year, in comparison, lakhs of students pass out of MBA colleges all over India.
There are several reasons one might not get into IIMs as the filtering process is very stringent as they consider academic, records of a person as only the brightest students are offered a seat in IIM. The IIMs are elite Business schools, while the average Indian middle class can certainly afford a state level MBAs as these too offer a lot of career options.
Finally, lets not underestimate the State level MBA’s as lakhs of students pass out of them and find lucrative jobs and make good careers.
