BE/BTech allowed for SSC IMD 2017 according to New ruling by CAT or Central Administrative Tribunal

BE/BTech allowed for SSC IMD 2017

According to a new ruling given by the Principal Bench, Central Administrative Tribunal candidates having BE/B. Tech is eligible for Scientific Assistant Posts. According to earlier rules, such candidates would not have had the chance to become Scientific Assistant.

According to Eligibility Criteria for SSC IMD 2017:  Candidates should be a graduate in Science (with Physics as one of the subject)/ Computer Science/Information Technology/ Computer Applications OR Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized Institution/University or equivalent.

However, the new Ruling states that BE and B.Tech candidates in relevant specialisation are eligible for SSC IMD 2017. The Coram comprised of HON’BLE SHRI Raj Vir Sharma, Judicial Member and HON’BLE MS. Praveen Mahajan, Administrative Member.

The case/petition has been filed by 120 applicants who are also petitioners in the case. All the applicants are aspirant for appointment to the post of Scientific Assistant, Group B‘ in Indian Meteorological Department. The Advocate for these candidates is Mr.M.K.Bhardwaj. The case is fought between these 120 applicants VS The Union of India, Director General of Meteorology and Chairman, SSC.

The Judgement by the CAT is as follows:

In the light of our above discussions, we have no hesitation in
holding that the impugned clarification dated 28.3.2018 (Annexure A/1)
issued by the respondent-Department is unsustainable in the eyes of law and
liable to be quashed. Accordingly, we quash the same and direct the
respondent-Department to consider the candidatures of the applicants and
other similarly placed candidates for selection and recruitment to the post of
Scientific Assistant on the basis of their merit positions in the competitive
examination held by the respondent-SSC pursuant to the Notice of
Recruitment of Scientific Assistant in India Meteorological Department
Examination, 2017.
