Exam date for SSC CGL 2016

The notification for this exam has been published on the official website of SSC. As per the exam calendar of SSC the Tier 1 exam date has been announced and is tentatively supposed to be held on 8th and 21st May, 2016 respectively.

Who all can appear for SSC CGL 2016 exams?

Applicants who would be appearing for the upcoming SSC exam should fulfill the following criteria. This is mandatory.

Age Limit: The minimum age in order to appear for 2016 SSC CGL exam is 18 years and the maximum age is 28 years. One cannot sit for the exam if this age criteria are not fulfilled. According to the Government of India Rules, there can be age relaxation for certain reserved categories. A quick look on the 2016 SSC CGL age limit for the few categories:


Assistant Section Officer: 20 to 30 years

Assistant (Intelligence Bureau): 21 to 27 years

Assistant Enforcement Officer: Up to 30 years

Sub-Inspector (CBI): 20 to 30 years

Statistical Investigator GR-II: up to 32 years

 Sub-Inspector (NIA): up to 30 years

Assistant Audit Officer: Not exceeding 30 years

 Sub-Inspector (Narcotics): 18 to 25 years


Educational Qualification: The minimum qualification which is required is Graduation. One needs to be a graduate in any of the fields. However, there are some specific posts for which additional qualification would be required. For that the applicants can refer to the Official SSC CGL Notification 2016.

What all jobs are offered after the clearance of 2016 SSC CGL exam?

More than 25 post categories are there for which one can apply. But, primarily there are 2 kinds of jobs:

Desk Job: People who love to be in office and relish the office environment can look for these desk jobs. There is a normal routine like any other job, home to office and office to home.

Posts like Assistants, Clerks, Auditor and Accountants are applicable for a desk job

Field Job: For this job, one needs to work outside the office. The duration to office can be short, but for most of the time one will have to work on the field. These jobs are quite adventurous and transferable. The work involved here would be like inspections, carrying out Raids or surveillance. Jobs that fall under this category are CBI Inspectors, Sub inspectors, Examiners etc.

The exam pattern and process for SSC CGL 2016

The Selection process compiles of three things, viz.

Tier 1 Exam

Tier II Exam

Interview or Skill Set

Tier 1 2016 SSC CGL Exam

This exam comprises of 4 parts:

General Intelligence and Reasoning- This would be of 50 marks (Focus on space orientation, decision making, blood relations, coding and decoding and numeric operations)

General Awareness- This category would also be of 50 marks (Focus on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Scientific Research, General Policies, History and Geography)

Quantitative Aptitude- Again, a 50 marks exam

English Comprehension-This is also a 50 marks exam

So, in total this is a 2 hour exam.  Also, a penalty of 0.25 marks would be there if the question is answered incorrectly. So basically, this exam will carry negative marking, which is why the SSC candidates should prepare well and timely.

Tier II Exam 2016 SSC CGL Exam

Once the Tier 1 exam is cleared, there will be a Tier II stage exam for SSC CGL. The SSC CGL Tier II syllabus comprises of:

Statistics – In total 20 marks and 100 questions (Focus on Common measures of Dispersion,  methods of data collection, Handling the Primary and Secondary data, sorting the data, Graphs, Charts, Tabulation of data, Mean, Median, Mode. Solve 10th, 11th and 12th standard Math books with focus on Statistics chapters)

Quantitative Abilities- In total 200 marks and 100 questions (Focus on chapters like Time and Distance, Number System -whole number, Percentages, decimals, Time and Work, fractions, Ratio and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Sphere, Triangles, Circle, Polygons, questions associated with and to distance and height, bar graph and pie chart).

English Language and Comprehension- In total 200 hundred marks and 200 questions (Focus on mis-spelt words, active/passive voice, errors and omissions and synonyms and antonyms)

Final Interview

The qualifiers of the Tier 2 exams then appear for a final interview round. There aren’t many candidates for the final interview but a few are there. Once the final interview round is clear then the applicant is all set to choose his/her types of jobs.

What to expect in SSC final interview? The Government of India has decided that it would be scrapping the interview process for Group B, C and D posts. So, there will not be any interview for SSC CGL 2016. That is why, if you have heard about no interview for 2016 SSC CGL, it is true.
