अब्दुल्ला शाहिद 76वीं संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा के अध्यक्ष चुने गए

• मालदीव के विदेश मंत्री, अब्दुल्ला शाहिद को 76वीं संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा (PGA) का भारी बहुमत से अध्यक्ष चुना गया। उन्होंने 48 मतों के खिलाफ 143 मत प्राप्त किए - जिससे उन्हें तीन-चौथाई बहुमत से जीत मिली। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा के अध्यक्ष का पद हर साल क्षेत्रीय समूहों के बीच बदलता रहता है। 76वां सत्र (2021-22) एशिया-प्रशांत समूह की बारी है और यह पहली बार है जब मालदीव पीजीए के पद पर आसीन होगा।
• पीजीए का कार्यालय संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रणाली में सर्वोच्च कार्यालय है और संयुक्त राष्ट्र के 193 सदस्य देशों की सामूहिक सद्भावना को दर्शाता है। मालदीव और अफगानिस्तान दोनों के भारत के साथ मैत्रीपूर्ण संबंध हैं। हालाँकि भारत का वोट मालदीव को गया क्योंकि नई दिल्ली ने रसूल के मैदान में आने से पहले शाहिद को समर्थन देने का वादा किया था।

भारत 2022-24 के लिए UN ECOSOC के सदस्य के रूप में चुना गया

• भारत को 2022-24 के तीन साल के कार्यकाल के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र आर्थिक और सामाजिक परिषद (ईसीओएसओसी) के सदस्य के रूप में चुना गया है, जो संयुक्त राष्ट्र के छह मुख्य अंगों में से एक है। भारत को अफगानिस्तान, कजाकिस्तान और ओमान के साथ एशिया-प्रशांत राज्यों की श्रेणी में 7 जून, 2021 को UNGA द्वारा 54 सदस्यीय ECOSOC के लिए चुना गया था।
• ईसीओएसओसी अंतरराष्ट्रीय आर्थिक, सामाजिक और पर्यावरणीय मुद्दों पर चर्चा करने और सदस्य राज्यों और संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रणाली को संबोधित नीति सिफारिशों को तैयार करने के लिए केंद्रीय मंच के रूप में कार्य करता है।

स्कूल शिक्षा ग्रेडिंग इंडेक्स: प्रदर्शन में पंजाब शीर्ष पर

• पंजाब, जिसने 2018-19 में प्राप्त 13 वें स्थान से अपने प्रदर्शन में सुधार किया है, इस बार सभी राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में 1,000 में से 929 के स्कोर के साथ चार्ट में सबसे ऊपर है, इसके बाद चंडीगढ़ (912) और तमिलनाडु (906) का स्थान है।
• परफॉरमेंस ग्रेडिंग इंडेक्स राज्यों को स्कूली शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में परिवर्तनकारी परिवर्तन को उत्प्रेरित करने के लिए सीखने के परिणामों और गुणवत्ता, पहुंच, बुनियादी ढांचे और सुविधाओं, इक्विटी और शासन प्रक्रियाओं से संबंधित 70 मापदंडों के एक सेट पर रैंक करता है।

रायमोना रिजर्व वन असम का छठा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान

• कोकराझार जिले में रायमोना असम का छठा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान बन गया है। कोकराझार जिले में 422 वर्ग फुट का वन्यजीव निवास स्थान मनस टाइगर रिजर्व के सबसे पश्चिमी बफर से जुड़ा हुआ है। 422 वर्ग किमी के रायमोना से पहले मौजूद पांच राष्ट्रीय उद्यान काजीरंगा, मनस, नामेरी, ओरंग और डिब्रू-सैखोवा हैं।
• पेकुआ नदी रायमोना की दक्षिणी सीमा को परिभाषित करती है। रायमोना 2,837 वर्ग किमी मनस बायोस्फीयर रिजर्व और चिरांग-रिपू हाथी रिजर्व का एक अभिन्न अंग है। इस तरह के सुरक्षित ट्रांसबाउंडरी पारिस्थितिक परिदृश्य गोल्डन लंगूर, बोडोलैंड टेरिटोरियल काउंसिल के शुभंकर और एशियाई हाथी, बंगाल टाइगर और अन्य विभिन्न वनस्पतियों और जीवों की प्रजातियों जैसे लुप्तप्राय प्रजातियों जैसे स्थानिक प्रजातियों के दीर्घकालिक संरक्षण को सुनिश्चित करेंगे।

रिया चक्रवर्ती ने 'टाइम्स 50 मोस्ट डिजायरेबल वुमन 2020' में नंबर 1 स्थान हासिल किया

• द टाइम्स 50 मोस्ट डिजायरेबल वूमेन 2020 सूची को जारी किया गया है, और इसमें विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में 40 से कम उम्र की महिलाओं को शामिल किया गया है। टाइम्स मोस्ट डिजायरेबल वुमन 2020 सूची में रिया चक्रवर्ती ने पहला स्थान प्राप्त किया है। सुशांत सिंह राजपूत के आकस्मिक निधन और उनकी मृत्यु के विवाद के कारण वह पिछले साल अधिकांश समय चर्चा में रहीं।
• मिस यूनिवर्स 2020, तीसरी रनर-अप एडलाइन कैस्टेलिनो ने सूची में दूसरा स्थान प्राप्त किया। अभिनेत्री दिशा पटानी, कियारा आडवाणी और दीपिका पादुकोण क्रमशः तीसरे, चौथे और पांचवें स्थान पर रहीं।

खेल

ओमान 2024 में हॉकी विश्व कप की मेजबानी करेगा

• ओमान को पहले अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हॉकी महासंघ (FIH) विश्व कप के मेजबान के रूप में नामित किया गया है। FIH ने कहा कि पुरुषों और महिलाओं के इवेंट्स जनवरी 2024 में ओमान की राजधानी मस्कट में होंगे। संगठन की इवेंट्स बिडिंग टास्क फोर्स की सिफारिश के बाद, शासी निकाय ने कहा कि उसके कार्यकारी बोर्ड ने ओमान को मेजबान के रूप में नामित किया।
• FIH के कार्यकारी बोर्ड ने 2019 में Hockeys विश्व कप के शुभारंभ की घोषणा की। लॉन्च के रूप में Hockey खेल का एक तेजी से लोकप्रिय प्रारूप बन गया, जिसे छोटी पिच पर खेला जाता है और जो पिछले दो ग्रीष्मकालीन युवा ओलंपिक खेलों में प्रदर्शित हुआ है।

नियुक्ति एवं इस्‍तीफे

अनूप C पांडे को भारत के नए चुनाव आयुक्त के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया

• केंद्र सरकार ने उत्तर प्रदेश कैडर के 1984 बैच के सेवानिवृत्त आईएएस अधिकारी अनूप चंद्र पांडे को चुनाव आयुक्त के रूप में नियुक्त किया है। चुनाव आयोग में, पांडे का कार्यकाल तीन साल से थोड़ा कम होगा और वे फरवरी 2024 में सेवानिवृत्त होंगे।
• पांडे को पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त सुनील अरोड़ा के 12 अप्रैल को सेवानिवृत्त होने से खाली हुए पद पर नियुक्त किया गया है। मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त सुशील चंद्रा और चुनाव आयुक्त राजीव कुमार पैनल के अन्य दो सदस्य हैं। यह नियुक्ति तीन सदस्यीय आयोग को अपनी पूरी ताकत में बहाल करता है, जो अब अगले साल उत्तर प्रदेश, पंजाब, गोवा, मणिपुर और उत्तराखंड में महत्वपूर्ण विधानसभा चुनावों के अगले सेट की देखरेख करेगा।

1. एडमिरल राजेश पेंढारकर ने नौसेना संचालन महानिदेशक के रूप में कार्यभार ग्रहण किया

विश्व प्रत्यायन दिवस 2021: 9 जून

• विश्व प्रत्यायन दिवस प्रतिवर्ष9 जून को विश्व स्तर पर व्यापार और अर्थव्यवस्था में प्रत्यायन की भूमिका को बढ़ावा देने के लिए मनाया जाता है। WAD 2021 के लिए थीम “Accreditation: Supporting the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” है। यह ILAC और IAF सदस्यों को हितधारकों, नियामकों और उपभोक्ताओं के साथ उदाहरण साझा करने का अवसर प्रदान करता है कि अर्थव्यवस्था में कैसे व्यापार को बढ़ाने, पर्यावरण और स्वास्थ्य और सुरक्षा चिंताओं को दूर करने, और उत्पादन की सामान्य समग्र गुणवत्ता में सुधार जैसे उद्देश्यों को पूरा करने के लिए प्रत्यायन लागू की जा सकती है।
• WAD एक वैश्विक पहल है, जिसे प्रत्यायन के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रत्यायन फोरम (IAF) और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रयोगशाला प्रत्यायन सहयोग (ILAC) द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से स्थापित किया गया है।

बैंकिंग और अर्थव्यवस्था

नीति आयोग ने सेंट्रल बैंक ऑफ एवं इंडियन ओवरसीज बैंक के निजीकरण की सिफारिश की

• नीति आयोग ने केंद्रीय बजट में घोषित निजीकरण पहल के हिस्से के रूप में सेंट्रल बैंक ऑफ इंडिया और इंडियन ओवरसीज बैंक (IOB) में सरकारी हिस्सेदारी बेचने की सिफारिश की है। वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने अपने बजट भाषण में 2021-22 में दो सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों (PSB) और एक सामान्य बीमा कंपनी के निजीकरण की घोषणा की थी। 'आत्मनिर्भर भारत' के लिए नई PSE (सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र उद्यम) नीति के अनुसार, नीति आयोग को अन्य सार्वजनिक उपक्रमों के विलय, निजीकरण, या सहायक बनाने के लिए रणनीतिक क्षेत्रों में सार्वजनिक उपक्रमों के नामों का सुझाव देने का काम सौंपा गया है।
• निवेश और सार्वजनिक संपत्ति प्रबंधन विभाग (DIPAM) और वित्तीय सेवा विभाग (DFS) प्रस्ताव की जांच करेंगे और बैंकों के निजीकरण के लिए आवश्यक विधायी परिवर्तनों पर चर्चा करेंगे। सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उद्यमों के निजीकरण और विनिवेश को अंतिम रूप देना एक बहुस्तरीय प्रक्रिया है। कैबिनेट सचिव की अध्यक्षता में सचिवों के एक कोर ग्रुप द्वारा सुझाए गए नामों को मंजूरी देने के बाद, प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी के लिए वैकल्पिक तंत्र (AM) और अंततः प्रधान मंत्री की अध्यक्षता वाली कैबिनेट में अंतिम मंजूरी के लिए भेजा जाएगा।

RBI ने BoI और PNB पर 6 करोड़ रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया

• RBI ने "धोखाधड़ी - वर्गीकरण और रिपोर्टिंग" से संबंधित मानदंडों के उल्लंघन के लिए बैंक ऑफ इंडिया और पंजाब नेशनल बैंक पर कुल मिलाकर 6 करोड़ रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया है। बैंक ऑफ इंडिया पर 4 करोड़ रुपये और पंजाब नेशनल बैंक पर 2 करोड़ रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया गया है।
• बैंक ने एक खाते में धोखाधड़ी का पता लगाने से संबंधित एक जनवरी, 2019 की समीक्षा की और एक धोखाधड़ी निगरानी रिपोर्ट (FMR) प्रस्तुत की। दोनों ही मामलों में कारण बताओं नोटिस जारी किए गए थे कि निर्देशों के इस तरह के उल्लंघन के लिए उन पर जुर्माना क्यों न लगाया जाए।

INTERNATIONAL

Abdullah Shahid was elected President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly

• Maldivian foreign minister, Abdullah Shahid was elected President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly (PGA) with an overwhelming majority. He garnered 143 votes in favour with 48 against – that gave him victory by a three-fourths majority. The post of the UN General Assembly President rotated annually among regional groupings. The 76th session (2021-22) is the turn of the Asia-Pacific group and this is the first time Maldives will be occupying the office of the PGA.
• The PGA’s office is the highest office in the UN System and reflects the collective goodwill of the 193 Member States of the UN. Both Maldives and Afghanistan have friendly ties with India. India’s vote however went to the Maldives since New Delhi had committed support to Shahid prior to Rassoul entering the fray.

India elected as member of UN ECOSOC for 2022-24

• India has been elected as a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the six main organs of the United Nations, for three-year terms of 2022-24. India was elected to the 54-member ECOSOC, by the UNGA on June 7, 2021, in the Asia-Pacific States category, along with Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Oman.
• ECOSOC serves as the central platform for discussing international economic, social and environmental issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations system.

NATIONAL

Grading index in school Education: Punjab tops performance

• Punjab, which has improved its showing from the 13th position it attained in 2018-19, topped the charts this time among all the states and union territories with a score of 929 out of 1,000, followed by Chandigarh (912) and Tamil Nadu (906).
• The performance grading index ranks the states on a set of 70 parameters relating to learning outcomes and quality, access, infrastructure and facilities, equity and governance processes to catalyse transformational change in the field of school education.

Raimona reserve forest sixth national park of Assam

• Raimona in Kokrajhar district has become Assam’s sixth national park. The 422 sq ft wildlife habitat in Kokrajhar district adjoins the western-most buffer to Manas Tiger Reserve. The five national parks that existed prior to the 422 sq. km Raimona are Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa.
• The Pekua river defines Raimona’s southern boundary. Raimona is an integral part of the 2,837 sq. km Manas Biosphere Reserve and the Chirang-Ripu Elephant Reserve. Such secured transboundary ecological landscape will ensure the long-term conservation of endemic species like the golden langur, the mascot of Bodoland Territorial Council and endangered species such as the Asian elephant, the Bengal tiger and varied other flora and faunal species it support.

Rhea Chakraborty has bagged the number 1 spot in ‘Times 50 Most Desirable Women 2020’

• The Times 50 Most Desirable Women 2020 list has been unveiled, and it features women under 40 across various fields. Rhea Chakraborty has bagged the number 1 spot on Times Most Desirable Women 2020 list. She was in the news for most of last year due to the sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput and the controversy around his death.
• Miss Universe 2020, 3rd runner-up Adline Castelino bagged the second spot in the list. Actress Disha Patani, Kiara Advani and Deepika Padukone were on the third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.

Oman will host Hockey World Cup in 2024

• Oman has been named as the host of the inaugural International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey’s World Cup. The FIH said the men’s and women’s events will take place in Oman’s capital city Muscat in January 2024. The governing body said its Executive Board named Oman as host, after a recommendation from the organisation’s Events Bidding Task Force.
• The FIH Executive Board announced the launch of the Hockey5s World Cup in 2019. The launch comes as Hockey is becomes an increasingly popular format of the sport, played on a smaller pitch and which has featured at the last two Summer Youth Olympic Games.

APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS

Anup C. Pandey appointed as new election commissioner of India

• The Union government has appointed Anup Chandra Pandey, a retired IAS officer of the 1984 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre, as Election Commissioner. In the Election Commission, Pandey will have a little under three years in office and will retire in February 2024.
• Pandey has been appointed to the position left vacant by former Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora’s retirement on April 12. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar are the other two members of the panel. This restores the three-member commission to its full strength, which will now oversee the next set of crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand next year.

1. Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar assumes Charge as Director General Naval Operations

• Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, AVSM, VSM has assumed charge as Director General Naval Operations. The Flag Officer is a specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and has served on frontline warships of the Navy as ASW Officer and later as the Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer of Guided Destroyer INS Mysore.
• He has commanded the missile corvette INS Kora, the missile frigate INS Shivalik and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat.

World Accreditation Day 2021: 9th  June

• World Accreditation Day (WAD) is celebrated every year on 9 June to promote the role of accreditation in trade & the economy. The theme for WAD 2021 is “Accreditation: Supporting the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. It provides the opportunity for ILAC and IAF members to share examples with stakeholders, regulators and consumers of how accreditation may be applied to meet objectives such as increasing trade, addressing environment and health and safety concerns, and improving the general overall quality of output in an economy.
• WAD is a global initiative, jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

NITI Aayog recommends privatisation of Central Bank, Indian Overseas Bank

• NITI Aayog has recommended divesting government stake in the Central Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) as part of the privatisation initiative announced in the Union Budget. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget speech, had announced privatising two public sector banks (PSBs) and one general insurance company in 2021-22. As per the new PSE (Public Sector Enterprise) policy for ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, NITI Aayog is entrusted with the task to suggest names of PSUs in strategic sectors to be merged, privatised, or made subsidiaries of other PSUs.
• The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and Department of Financial Services (DFS) will examine the proposal and discuss legislative changes needed for the privatisation of banks. The finalisation of privatisation and disinvestment of public sector enterprises is a multi-layered process. After a Core Group of Secretaries, headed by the Cabinet Secretary, clears the suggested names, the proposal will go to Alternative Mechanism (AM) for its approval and eventually to the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister for a final nod.

RBI imposed penalty on BoI & PNB of Rs 6 crore

• The RBI has imposed a penalty aggregating to Rs 6 crores on Bank of India and Punjab National Bank for contravention of norms, including one related to “Frauds – Classification and Reporting”. A penalty of Rs 4 crores has been imposed on the Bank of India and Rs 2 crores on Punjab National Bank.
• The bank had also conducted a review and submitted a Fraud Monitoring Report (FMR) dated January 1, 2019, pertaining to the detection of fraud in an account. In both cases, notices were issued to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on them for such violations of the directions.
