इसरो ने सैटेलाइट टीवी कक्षाओं को लागू करने के लिए संसदीय पैनल को मंजूरी दी

• भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) ने शिक्षा पर संसदीय स्थायी समिति को देश में सैटेलाइट टीवी कक्षाओं के लिए तकनीकी सहायता प्रदान करने के लिए अपनी मंजूरी दे दी है ताकि C-19-प्रेरित लॉकडाउन के कारण सीखने के गैप को ख़त्म किया जा सके। इसरो के वैज्ञानिक शिक्षा के लिए संसदीय स्थायी समिति के समक्ष उपस्थित हुए और छात्रों के लिए प्रस्तावित सैटेलाइट टीवी कक्षा के बारे में विस्तृत प्रस्तुति दी।
• विनय सहस्रबुद्धे की अध्यक्षता वाले संसदीय पैनल ने पहले इसरो के वैज्ञानिकों से उन छात्रों के लिए सैटेलाइट टीवी क्लासरूम शुरू करने के लिए तकनीकी सहायक प्रदान करने के लिए मदद मांगी थी, जिन्होंने C-19 महामारी के कारण स्कूल के पाठ्यक्रम में सीखने की कमी की सूचना दी थी। समिति ने सैटेलाइट टीवी कक्षाओं की खोज की जो स्कूल-आधारित शैक्षिक कार्यक्रमों का प्रसारण करेंगे और छात्र क्लस्टर कक्षाओं में इसका लाभ उठा सकते हैं और स्मार्टफोन और डेटा कनेक्टिविटी के मुद्दे को विशेष रूप से ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में हल किया जा सकता है।

भारतीय सेना प्रमुख इटली में भारतीय सैनिकों के लिए युद्ध स्मारक का उद्घाटन करेंगे

• भारतीय सेना प्रमुख जनरल एमएम नरवणे यूनाइटेड किंगडम (UK) और इटली की आधिकारिक यात्रा पर जाएंगे, जिसके दौरान वह अपने समकक्षों और इन देशों के वरिष्ठ सैन्य नेतृत्व से मुलाकात करेंगे। इस यात्रा का मुख्य आकर्षण इटली के प्रसिद्ध शहर कैसिनो में जनरल नरवणे का भारतीय सेना स्मारक का उद्घाटन करना होगा। द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान मोंटे कैसिनो की लड़ाई में, 5,000 से अधिक भारतीय सैनिकों ने इटली को फासीवादी ताकतों से बचाने के लिए लड़ते हुए अपने प्राणों की आहुति दे दी।
• सितंबर 1943 और अप्रैल 1945 के बीच इटली की मुक्ति के लिए लगभग 50,000 भारतीयों को सूचीबद्ध किया गया था। यूके और इटली दोनों रक्षा, स्वास्थ्य सेवा, एयरोस्पेस, शिक्षा, स्वच्छ प्रौद्योगिकी, नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा और सूचना एवं संचार प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में भारत के लिए महत्वपूर्ण भागीदार हैं।

भारत सरकार ने एलआईसी अध्यक्ष की सेवानिवृत्ति आयु 62 वर्ष तक बढ़ाई

• सरकार ने भारतीय जीवन बीमा निगम (स्टाफ) विनियम, 1960 में संशोधन करके IPO के लिए बाध्य LIC के अध्यक्ष, एमआर कुमार की सेवानिवृत्ति की आयु को 62 वर्ष तक बढ़ा दिया है। 30 जून, 2021 की एक सरकारी अधिसूचना के अनुसार, नियमों में किए गए परिवर्तनों को भारतीय जीवन बीमा निगम (स्टाफ) संशोधन नियम, 2021 कहा जाएगा।
• यह ध्यान दिया जाना चाहिए कि कुछ अपवादों को छोड़कर, भारतीय स्टेट बैंक (एसबीआई) सहित अधिकांश सार्वजनिक उपक्रमों के शीर्ष अधिकारियों के लिए सेवानिवृत्ति की आयु 60 वर्ष है।

नॉर्वे के कार्स्टन वारहोम ने पुरुषों की 400 मीटर बाधा दौड़ का विश्व रिकॉर्ड तोड़ा

• नॉर्वे के 25 वर्षीय एथलीट कार्स्टन वारहोल्म ने बिस्लेट खेलों के दौरान 400 मीटर बाधा दौड़ में लंबे समय से चले आ रहे विश्व रिकॉर्ड को तोड़ा।
• इससे पहले यह रिकॉर्ड 29 वर्ष तक अमेरिकी हर्डलर केविन यंग के नाम था। उनका 46.78 सेकंड का मार्क 1992 के बार्सिलोना, स्पेन में ओलंपिक में स्थापित किया गया था, जिसे अंततः वारहोल्म द्वारा 46.70 सेकंड के आधिकारिक समय के साथ तोड़ा गया था।

एडवर्ड्स को पछाड़ मिताली राज सबसे ज्यादा रन बनाने वाली खिलाड़ी बनीं

• भारत की कप्तान मिताली राज इंग्लैंड की पूर्व कप्तान चार्लोटे एडवर्ड्स को पछाड़कर सभी प्रारूपों में महिला क्रिकेट में सबसे अधिक रन बनाने वाली खिलाड़ी बन गईं। एडवर्ड्स के 10,273 रनों को पछाड़कर मिताली महिला अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैचों में विश्‍व की सबसे शानदार बल्लेबाज बन गईं। न्यूजीलैंड की सूजी बेट्स 7849 रन के साथ तीसरे नंबर पर हैं। शीर्ष पांच में स्टेफनी टेलर (7832) और मेग लैनिंग (7024) हैं।
• मिताली ने सांत्वना जीत के लिए 220 रनों का पीछा करते हुए मेजबान इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ तीसरे और अंतिम एकदिवसीय मैच के दौरान यह उपलब्धि हासिल की। 2020 में, राज को दशक की ICC की ODI टीम में नामित किया गया था, जो खेल में उनकी निरंतरता के लिए एक उपयुक्त सम्मान था। वह अब तक 11 टेस्ट, 216 एकदिवसीय और 89 ट्वेंटी 20 अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैचों में महिलाओं के खेल के इतिहास में सबसे अधिक कैप्ड खिलाड़ी हैं।

केएन भट्टाचार्जी त्रिपुरा के नए लोकायुक्त

• वयोवृद्ध अधिवक्ता कल्याण नारायण भट्टाचार्जी को त्रिपुरा में नया लोकायुक्त नियुक्त किया गया है। उन्हें इस पद पर तीन वर्ष के लिए 1 जुलाई से नियुक्त किया गया है। त्रिपुरा में लोकायुक्त अधिनियम 2008 से लागू है और 2012 में त्रिपुरा में पहला लोकायुक्त नियुक्त किया गया था। भट्टाचार्जी राज्य के तीसरे लोकायुक्त हैं और वकील के रूप में पद संभालने वाले पहले व्यक्ति हैं।
• गुजरात और गुवाहाटी एचसी के पूर्व न्यायाधीश प्रदीप कुमार सरकार त्रिपुरा में पहले लोकायुक्त थे।

बैंकिंग और अर्थव्यवस्था

IOB दूसरा सबसे मूल्यवान सार्वजनिक ऋणदाता बना

• इंडियन ओवरसीज बैंक (IOB) 50,000 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक के बाजार पूंजीकरण के साथ दूसरा सबसे मूल्यवान सूचीबद्ध सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र का बैंक (PSB) बन गया है। राज्य के स्वामित्व वाले ऋणदाता के स्ट्रीट डिस्काउंट निजीकरण के रूप में, इसके शेयरों ने पिछले एक महीने में BSE पर लगभग 80 प्रतिशत की सराहना की है। BSE पर उपलब्ध आंकड़ों के अनुसार, IOB 51,887 करोड़ रुपये के एम-कैप के साथ है, जिसके बाद PNB (46,411 करोड़ रुपये) और BOB (44,112 करोड़ रुपये) क्रमशः तीसरे और चौथे स्थान पर है।
• PNB में 4 प्रतिशत की गिरावट और BOB शेयर की कीमत में 5 प्रतिशत की बढ़ोतरी की तुलना में पिछले महीने में IOB का बाजार मूल्य 57 प्रतिशत बढ़ गया है। बैंक वसूली, कम लागत वाली जमाराशियों और कम पूंजी खपत वाले अग्रिमों पर ध्यान केंद्रित करके त्वरित सुधारात्मक कार्रवाई (PCA) ढांचे से बाहर आने की योजना बना रहा है।

INTERNATIONAL

ISRO gives nod to parliamentary panel to implement satellite TV classrooms

• Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has given its nod to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education to provide technical assistance for satellite TV classrooms in the country to bridge the learning gap due to C-19-induced lockdown. ISRO scientists have appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Education and made a detailed presentation about the proposed satellite TV classroom for students.
• Vinay Sahastrabuddhe-led parliamentary panel had earlier sought help from ISRO scientists to provide technical assistants to start satellite TV classrooms for students who reported a learning gap in the school syllabus due to the C-19 pandemic. The Committee explored satellite TV classrooms that will broadcast school-based educational programs and students can take advantage of it in cluster classrooms and the issue of smartphone and data connectivity can be resolved, especially in the rural areas.

Indian Army chief to inaugurate war memorial for Indian soldiers in Italy

• Indian Army chief General MM Naravane will embark on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and Italy, during which he will be meeting his counterparts and the senior military leadership of these countries. The highlight of the visit will be Gen Naravane’s inauguration of the Indian Army Memorial in the famous town of Cassino, Italy. In the Battle of Monte Cassino during World War II, over 5,000 Indian soldiers laid down their lives while fighting to save Italy from fascist forces.
• Nearly 50,000 Indians were enlisted for Italy’s liberation between September 1943 and April 1945. Both the UK and Italy are important partners for India in the fields of defence, healthcare, aerospace, education, clean technology, renewable energy and information and communication technology among others.

Government of India extended superannuation age of LIC chairman to up to 62 years

• The government has extended the superannuation age of IPO-bound LIC Chairman, M R Kumar, to up to 62 years by making amendments to the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Staff) Regulations, 1960.
• The changes made in the rules will be called the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Staff) Amendment Rules, 2021, according to a government notification dated June 30, 2021. It is to be noted that the retirement age for the top executives of the majority of PSUs is 60 years, barring a few exceptions, including the State Bank of India (SBI).

Norway’s Karsten Warholm breaks men’s 400 metres hurdles world record

• Karsten Warholm, a 25-year-old athlete from Norway, broke the long-standing world record in the 400m hurdles during the Bislett Games.
• Earlier the record was held by American hurdler Kevin Young for 29 years. His mark of 46.78 seconds was set at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, which was finally broken with an official time of 46.70 seconds by Warholm.

Mithali Raj surpasses Edwards to become highest run-getter

• India captain Mithali Raj became the highest run-getter in women’s cricket across formats, overtaking former England skipper Charlotte Edwards. Mithali became the world’s most prolific batter in women’s internationals, overtaking Edwards’ 10,273 runs. Suzie Bates of New Zealand is third with 7849 runs. Stafanie Taylor (7832) and Meg Lanning (7024) round up the top five.
• Mithali achieved the feat during the third and final inconsequential ODI against hosts England while chasing 220 for a consolation win. In 2020, Raj was named to the ICC’s ODI team of the decade, a fitting honour for her consistency in the sport. She is also the most capped player in the history of the women’s game, having featured in 11 Tests, 216 ODIs and 89 Twenty20 Internationals so far.

KN Bhattacharjee is the new Lokayukta of Tripura

• Veteran advocate Kalyan Narayan Bhattacharjee has been appointed as the new Lokayukta in Tripura. He has been appointed to the post for three years w.e.f. July 1.
• The Lokayukta Act has been in force in Tripura since 2008 and in 2012, the first Lokayukta was appointed in Tripura. Bhattacharjee is the third Lokayukta in the state and the first to hold the post as a lawyer. Former Gujarat & Guwahati HC judge Pradeep Kumar Sarkar was 1st Lokayukta in Tripura.

• Invest India has been awarded the world’s most innovative Investment Promotion Agency 2021 by OCO Global. OCO Global is a leading authority on foreign investment and offers a range of economic development services, products, and unique company assessment tools.
• Invest India, set up in 2009, is a non-profit venture under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
• It is the national investment promotion and facilitation agency.
• Invest India focuses on sector-specific investor targeting and the development of new partnerships to enable sustainable investments in India.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

IOB becomes the second most-valued public lender

• Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has become the second most-valued listed public sector bank (PSB) with a market capitalisation of over Rs 50,000 crore. As Street discounts privatisation of the state-owned lender, its shares have appreciated nearly 80 per cent on the BSE in the past one month. IOB stood with an m-cap of Rs 51,887 crore, pushing PNB (Rs 46,411 crore) and BOB (Rs 44,112 crore) to third and fourth position, respectively, as per data available on BSE.
• In the past month, the market price of IOB has zoomed 57 per cent, as compared to a 4 per cent decline in PNB and a 5 per cent gain in BOB share price. The bank plans to come out of the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework by focusing on recovery, low-cost deposits, and less capital consuming advances.
