WHO ने भारत में सबसे पहले पाए गए C-19 वेरिएंट का नाम 'कप्पा' और 'डेल्टा' रखा

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र की स्वास्थ्य एजेंसी, विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (WHO) ने भारत में पहली बार पाए गए C-19 के दो वेरिएंट को आसानी-से-कहने वाले लेबल दिए हैं। दो वेरिएंट B.1.617.1 एवं B.1.617.2. हैं। C-19 के B.1.617.1 संस्करण को 'कप्पा (Kappa)' नाम दिया गया है, जबकि B1।617।2 संस्करण को 'डेल्टा (Delta)' नाम दिया गया है।
• इन वेरिएंट्स के नामकरण का उद्देश्य इन #SARSCoV2 वैरिएंट ऑफ़ कंसर्न (VOCs) और इंटरेस्ट (VOI) के मौजूदा वैज्ञानिक नामों को बदलना नहीं है, बल्कि इसका उद्देश्य VOI/VOC के बारे में सार्वजनिक चर्चा में मदद करना है।

भारत के संजीत कुमार ने एशियाई मुक्केबाजी चैंपियनशिप में जीता स्वर्ण पदक

• भारत के मुक्केबाज संजीत कुमार ने ASBC एशियाई मुक्केबाजी चैंपियनशिप में 91 किलोग्राम भार वर्ग में स्वर्ण पदक जीता।
• संजीत ने दुबई में एशियाई चैंपियनशिप के फाइनल में पांच बार के एशियाई चैंपियनशिप पदक विजेता और कजाकिस्तान के रियो ओलंपिक रजत पदक विजेता वासिली लेविट को 3-2 के विभाजन के फैसले में हराकर स्वर्ण पदक जीता।

यूटा जैज के जॉर्डन क्लार्कसन ने 2021 का छठा मैन ऑफ द ईयर जीता

• यूटा जैज़ गार्ड जॉर्डन क्लार्कसन ने आरक्षित भूमिका में उनके योगदान के लिए 2020-21 किआ एनबीए सिक्स्थ मैन अवार्ड जीता है। क्लार्कसन के लिए यह पहला सिक्स्थ मैन सम्मान है, जो जैज़ के साथ वार्षिक पुरस्कार जीतने वाले पहले खिलाड़ी बने।
• क्लार्कसन जैज़ फ्रैंचाइज़ी के इतिहास में पुरस्कार जीतने वाले पहले खिलाड़ी बन गए और उन्हें उनकी टीम के साथी और साथी सिक्स्थ मैन ऑफ द ईयर फाइनलिस्ट जो इंगल्स (Joe Ingles) द्वारा ट्रॉफी प्रदान की गई। क्लार्कसन ने 65 प्रथम स्थान प्राप्त किए और 100 खिलाड़ियों और प्रसारकों के वैश्विक पैनल से कुल 407 अंक अर्जित किए।

संविधान सभा के पूर्व सदस्य टी.एम. कलियानन का निधन हो गया

• भारतीय संविधान सभा के अंतिम जीवित पूर्व सदस्य, टी.एम. कलियानन गौंडर का 101 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया।
• उन्होंने 1952 और 1967 के बीच तमिलनाडु में विधान परिषद के सदस्य और तीन बार विधायक के रूप में भी कार्य किया। वह कथित तौर पर संविधान सभा में सबसे कम आयु के सदस्य और भारत की पहली अनंतिम संसद के सदस्य भी थे।

नियुक्तियां एवं इस्‍तीफे

मैग्मा फिनकॉर्प ने अदार पूनावाला को अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया

• मैग्मा फिनकॉर्प ने पूनावाला द्वारा नियंत्रित राइजिंग सन होल्डिंग्स में नियंत्रण हिस्सेदारी हासिल करने के बाद प्रबंधन में बदलाव के हिस्से के रूप में अदार पूनावाला को अपना अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया है। राइजिंग सन ने इस महीने की शुरुआत में गैर-बैंक ऋणदाता में 3,456 करोड़ रुपये का निवेश किया था। मैग्मा को जल्द ही पूनावाला ग्रुप कंपनी के रूप में रीब्रांड किया जाएगा। ऋणदाता ने अभय भुटाडा को एमडी और विजय देशवाल को सीईओ नियुक्त किया है।

न्यायमूर्ति ए.के. मिश्रा होंगे NHRC के नए अध्यक्ष

• सुप्रीम कोर्ट के पूर्व न्यायाधीश अरुण कुमार मिश्रा राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग (NHRC) के नए अध्यक्ष होंगे, जब एक उच्चस्तरीय सिफारिश समिति ने उनके नाम का प्रस्ताव रखा था। चयन पैनल में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, गृह मंत्री अमित शाह, राज्यसभा के उपसभापति, हरिवंश, लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिरला और राज्यसभा में विपक्ष के नेता मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे शामिल थे।
• जम्मू और कश्मीर उच्च न्यायालय के पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश, महेश मित्तल कुमार, और इंटेलिजेंस ब्यूरो के पूर्व निदेशक, राजीव जैन को भी NHRC के सदस्यों के रूप में उच्चाधिकार प्राप्त पैनल द्वारा अनुशंसित किया गया था, लेकिन इस रिपोर्ट के दाखिल होने तक आधिकारिक अधिसूचना अभी बाकी है।

आईबीएफ ने न्यायमूर्ति (सेवानिवृत्त) विक्रमजीत सेन को अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया

• इंडियन ब्रॉडकास्टिंग फाउंडेशन (IBF) ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट के पूर्व जज जस्टिस विक्रमजीत सेन को अपने नवगठित स्व-नियामक निकाय डिजिटल मीडिया कंटेंट रेगुलेटरी काउंसिल (DMCRC) के अध्यक्ष के रूप में नियुक्त करने की घोषणा की।
• DMCRC का गठन सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी (मध्यस्थ दिशानिर्देश और डिजिटल मीडिया आचार संहिता) नियम, 2021 के जनादेश के अनुसार किया गया है। यह कदम प्रसारकों और OTT (ओवर-द-टॉप) प्लेटफार्मों को एक साथ लाने के लिए किया गया था।

टाटा स्टील के टीवी नरेंद्रन ने सीआईआई के अध्यक्ष का पदभार संभाला

• टाटा स्टील लिमिटेड के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी और प्रबंध निदेशक, टीवी नरेंद्रन ने 2021-22 के लिए भारतीय उद्योग परिसंघ (CII) के अध्यक्ष के रूप में पदभार संभाला है। उन्होंने कोटक महिंद्रा बैंक लिमिटेड के प्रबंध निदेशक और मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी उदय कोटक, जिन्होंने अपना कार्यकाल पूरा कर लिया है, से उद्योग निकाय का नेतृत्व लिया है।
• नरेंद्रन, भारतीय प्रबंधन संस्थान, कलकत्ता के पूर्व छात्र, कई वर्षों से CII से जुड़े हुए हैं। वह 2016-17 के दौरान CII पूर्वी क्षेत्र के अध्यक्ष थे और CII झारखंड के अध्यक्ष होने के अलावा, उन्होंने नेतृत्व और मानव संसाधन पर उद्योग निकाय की राष्ट्रीय समितियों का नेतृत्व किया है।

सेंटर फॉर वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग 2021-22 की घोषणा

• सेंटर फॉर वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग 2021-22 ने घोषणा की है, 19,788 संस्थानों को स्थान दिया गया था, और जो शीर्ष पर थे, उन्होंने वैश्विक 2000 की सूची बनाई। हार्वर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी ने विश्व स्तर पर रैंकिंग में शीर्ष स्थान हासिल किया है, इसके बाद क्रमशः मैसाचुसेट्स इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी, स्टैनफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी, यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ कैम्ब्रिज और ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी का स्थान है।
• सेंटर फॉर वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग (CWUR) 2021-22 के अनुसार, 68 भारतीय संस्थानों ने दुनिया भर के शीर्ष 2000 उच्च शिक्षा संस्थानों की सूची में जगह बनाई है। भारतीय पैक का नेतृत्व IIM-अहमदाबाद करता है, जिसने 415वीं रैंक हासिल की है और उसके बाद भारतीय विज्ञान संस्थान (IISc) ने 459वीं रैंक हासिल की है।

बैंकिंग और अर्थव्यवस्था

आरबीआई ने रद्द किया शिवाजीराव भोसले सहकारी बैंक का लाइसेंस

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) ने पुणे स्थित शिवाजीराव भोसले सहकारी बैंक का लाइसेंस रद्द कर दिया है। बैंक का 31 मई को कारोबार समाप्ति से बैंकिंग व्यवसाय करना बंद कर दिया गया है। बैंक के पास पर्याप्त पूंजी और कमाई की संभावनाएं नहीं हैं। इस प्रकार, यह बैंकिंग विनियमन अधिनियम, 1949 के प्रावधान का अनुपालन नहीं करता है।
• RBI ने पाया कि बैंक अपनी वर्तमान वित्तीय स्थिति के साथ अपने वर्तमान जमाकर्ताओं को पूरा भुगतान करने में असमर्थ होगा। बैंक को 4 मई, 2019 को कारोबार की समाप्ति से RBI के दिशा-निर्देशों के तहत रखा गया था।

लाइसेंस रद्द करने और परिसमापन कार्यवाही शुरू होने के साथ, जमा बीमा और क्रेडिट गारंटी निगम (DICGC) अधिनियम, 1961 के अनुसार बैंक के जमाकर्ताओं को भुगतान करने की प्रक्रिया गति में आ जाएगी। बैंक द्वारा प्रस्तुत आंकड़ों के अनुसार, 98 प्रतिशत से अधिक जमाकर्ताओं को उनकी जमा राशि की पूरी राशि DICGC से प्राप्त होगी।

INTERNATIONAL

WHO named C-19 variants first found in India as ‘Kappa’ and ‘Delta’

• The UN health agency, World Health Organisation (WHO), has given easy-to-say labels to two variants of the C-19, first found in India. The two variants are B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.2. The B.1.617.1 variant of the C-19 has been named as ‘Kappa’ while the B1.617.2 variant is named as ‘Delta.’
• The naming of these variants do not aim at replacing the existing scientific names of these #SARSCoV2 Variants of Concern (VOCs) & Interest (VOIs), but is aimed at helping the public discussion about VOI/VOC.

India’s Sanjeet Kumar wins gold medal in Asian Boxing Championship

• India’s pugilist Sanjeet Kumar won a gold medal in the 91 kg weight category at the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships.
• Sanjeet pulled off a massive upset as he defeated five-time Asian Championships medallist and Rio Olympic silver medalist Vassiliy Levit of Kazakhstan in a 3-2 split decision in the final of Asian Championships in Dubai to clinch the gold.

Utah Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson wins 2021 Sixth Man of the Year

• Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson has won the 2020-21 Kia NBA Sixth Man Award for his contributions in a reserve role. This is the first Sixth Man honour for Clarkson, who becomes the first player to win the annual award with the Jazz.
• Clarkson becomes the first player in Jazz franchise history to win the award and was presented the trophy by his teammate and fellow Sixth Man of the Year Finalist Joe Ingles. Clarkson received 65 first-place votes and earned 407 total points from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.

OBITUARY

T.M. Kaliannan, former member of Constituent Assembly, passed away

• T.M. Kalliannan Gounder, the last surviving former member of the Indian Constituent Assembly, died at the age of 101. He served as a Member of the Legislative Council in Tamil Nadu and also as an MLA thrice, between 1952 and 1967. He was reportedly the youngest member in the Constituent Assembly then and also a member of India’s first provisional parliament.

APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS

Magma Fincorp appointed Adar Poonawalla as chairman

• Magma Fincorp has appointed Adar Poonawalla as its chairman as part of a management overhaul following the Poonawala-controlled Rising Sun Holdings acquiring a controlling stake in it. Rising Sun invested Rs 3,456 crore in the non-bank lender earlier this month.
• Magma will soon be rebranded as Poonawalla Group company. The lender has also appointed Abhay Bhutada as MD & Vijay Deshwal as CEO.

Justice A.K. Mishra will be the new chairperson of the NHRC

• Former Supreme Court judge Arun Kumar Mishra will be the new chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) after a high-powered recommendation committee proposed his name. The selection panel consisted of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge.
• Former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Mahesh Mittal Kumar, and former Director of Intelligence Bureau, Rajiv Jain, had also been recommended by the high-powered panel as members of the NHRC but the official notification is yet to be out until the filing of this report.

IBF appointed Justice (retired) Vikramjit Sen as the chairman

• The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) announced the appointment of former Supreme Court judge Justice Vikramjit Sen as the Chairman of its newly formed self-regulatory body Digital Media Content Regulatory Council (DMCRC). DMCRC is formed as per the mandate of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The move was done to bring together the broadcasters and OTT (over-the-top) platforms.

Tata Steel’s T.V. Narendran takes over as CII president

• Tata Steel Ltd chief executive officer and managing director, T.V. Narendran has taken over as president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2021-22. He takes over the leadership of the industry body from Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd managing director and chief executive officer Uday Kotak, who has completed his term.
• Narendran, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, has been associated with the CII for many years. He was the chairman of CII eastern region during 2016-17 and has led the industry body’s national committees on leadership and human resources, besides being chairman of CII Jharkhand.

Centre for World University Rankings 2021-22 announced

• Centre for World University Rankings 2021-22 has announced, 19,788 institutions were ranked, and those that placed at the top made the global 2000 list. Harvard University has topped the ranking globally followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, and Oxford University respectively.
• As many as 68 Indian institutes have made it to the list of the top 2000 higher education institutes across the world, as per the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2021-22. The Indian pack is led by the IIM-Ahmedabad which has bagged 415th rank followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) at 459th rank.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

RBI cancelled the licence of Shivajirao Bhosale Sahakari Bank

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of Pune-based Shivajirao Bhosale Sahakari Bank. The bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on May 31. The bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. As such, it does not comply with the provision of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
• The RBI observed that the bank with its present financial position would be unable to pay its present depositors in full. The bank was placed under RBI Directions from the close of business on May 4, 2019.
• With the cancellation of licence and commencement of liquidation proceedings, the process of paying the depositors of the bank as per the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC). Act, 1961, will be set in motion. As per the data submitted by the bank, more than 98 per cent of the depositors will receive full amounts of their deposits from DICGC.
