डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने पीएम मोदी को अमेरिका के सर्वोच्च सम्मान 'लीजन ऑफ मेरिट' से किया सम्मानित

• अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को अमेरिका के सर्वोच्च सैन्य सम्मान ‘The Legion of Merit’ से सम्मानित किया है। दोनों देशों की रणनीतिक साझेदारी को बढ़ाने में उनके नेतृत्व के लिए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को प्रतिष्ठित लीजन ऑफ मेरिट प्रदान किया गया था।
• इस पुरस्कार को प्रधानमंती की तरफ से अमेरिका में भारत के राजदूत, तरनजीत सिंह संधू ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार रॉबर्ट ओ'ब्रायन से व्हाइट हाउस में 21 दिसंबर 2020 को स्वीकार किया।

विश्व बैंक ने भारत में राजमार्गों को विकसित करने के लिए 500 मिलियन डॉलर की परियोजना पर किए हस्ताक्षर

• भारत सरकार और विश्व बैंक ने राजस्थान, हिमाचल प्रदेश, उत्तर प्रदेश और आंध्र प्रदेश राज्यों में सुरक्षित और ग्रीन राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग कोरिडोर के निर्माण के लिए 500 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की परियोजना पर हस्ताक्षर किए। यह परियोजना सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय (MoRTH) की सुरक्षा और हरित प्रौद्योगिकियों को मुख्यधारा में लाने की क्षमता भी बढ़ाएगी। विश्व बैंक की सहयोगी संस्था इंटरनेशनल बैंक फॉर रिकंस्ट्रक्शन एंड डेवलपमेंट द्वारा 500 मिलियन डॉलर का लोन, 18.5 साल की परिपक्वता अवधि के लिए दिया जाएगा, जिसमें पांच साल का ग्रेस पीरियड भी शामिल है।
• ग्रीन नेशनल हाईवे कॉरिडोर परियोजना स्थानीय और मार्जिनल सामग्री, औद्योगिक बायप्रोडक्ट्स और अन्य बायोइन्जिनियरिंग समाधानों को सुरक्षित और हरित प्रौद्योगिकी डिजाइनों को एकीकृत करके विभिन्न भौगोलिक क्षेत्रों में 783 किलोमीटर राजमार्गों के MoRTH निर्माण का समर्थन करेगी।
• यह परियोजना राजमार्गों के निर्माण और रखरखाव में जीएचजी उत्सर्जन को कम करने में मदद करेगी।
• परिवहन बुनियादी ढांचे का अंतिम उद्देश्य सहज कनेक्टिविटी प्रदान करना और रसद लागत को कम करना है।
• भारत सरकार ने लॉजिस्टिक्स कार्यों को मजबूत करने और बेहतर बनाने के लिए सड़क क्षेत्र के बुनियादी ढांचे में कई निवेश कार्यक्रम शुरू किए हैं।
• यह परियोजना नेशनल हाइवे नेटवर्क पर माल ढुलाई की मात्रा और गतिशीलता पैटर्न को मैप करने, समस्याओं की पहचान करने और अभिनव रसद समाधान प्रदान करने के लिए एनालिटिक्स का भी समर्थन करेगी।

 धर्मेंद्र प्रधान ने बंगाल का पहला तेल और गैस रिजर्व राष्ट्र को किया समर्पित

• केंद्रीय पेट्रोलियम और प्राकृतिक गैस मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान ने पश्चिम बंगाल के पहले तेल और गैस रिजर्व, बंगाल बेसिन को राष्ट्र को समर्पित किया है। बंगाल बेसिन की खोज और स्वामित्व ऑइल एंड नेचुरल गैस कारपोरेशन (ONGC) के पास है। यह ONGC द्वारा भारत के आठ उत्पादन बेसिन हैं।
• दूसरे हैं कृष्णा-गोदावरी (KG), मुंबई ऑफशोर, असम शेल्फ, राजस्थान, कावेरी, असम-अराकान फोल्ड बेल्ट और कैम्बे। तेल और प्राकृतिक गैस निगम (ONGC) लिमिटेड ने 20 दिसंबर 2020 को राज्य के 24 परगना जिले में असोकनगर -1 कुएं, बंगाल बेसिन से कच्चे तेल का उत्पादन शुरू किया।

प्रख्यात मलयालम कवि सुगत कुमारी का निधन

• प्रसिद्ध कवि और कार्यकर्ता सुगत कुमारी का कोरोनोवायरस संक्रमित होने के बाद निधन हो गया। वह 1970 के दशक में आकार लेते Save Silent Valley Movement की सबसे सक्रिय प्रचारकों में से एक थी।
• उन्होंने कविता मरातिनु स्तुति (एक पेड़ के लिए भजन) लिखी थी, जिसे साइलेंट वैली को बचाने के लिए हर दूसरे विरोध में सुनाया गया था। सुगत कुमारी को साल 2006 में भारत के चौथे सबसे बड़े नागरिक पुरस्कार, पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया गया था।

विनीत अग्रवाल बने Assocham के नए अध्यक्ष

• लॉजिस्टिक्स प्रमुख ट्रांसपोर्ट कॉरपोरेशन ऑफ इंडिया लिमिटेड के प्रबंध निदेशक विनीत अग्रवाल ने एसोसिएटेड चैंबर्स ऑफ कॉमर्स एंड इंडस्ट्री ऑफ इंडिया (Assocham) के नए अध्यक्ष के रूप में पदभार संभाला है। उन्होंने हीरानंदानी ग्रुप ऑफ कंपनीज के सह-संस्थापक और एमडी निरंजन हीरानंदानी की जगह ली है।
• इसके अतिरिक्त ReNew पावर के अध्यक्ष और प्रबंध निदेशक सुमंत सिन्हा, एसोचैम के नए वरिष्ठ उपाध्यक्ष बने है।

 सत्येंद्र गर्ग ने संभाला अंडमान और निकोबार के डीजीपी का कार्यभार

• वरिष्ठ आईपीएस अधिकारी सत्येंद्र गर्ग ने अंडमान और निकोबार के डीजीपी का पदभार ग्रहण किया है। 1987 बैच के आईपीएस अधिकारी गर्ग को केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रालय में संयुक्त सचिव के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया था। उन्हें उनके कैडर में भेजे जाने से पहले वे संयुक्त सचिव के रूप में गृह मंत्रालय में नॉर्थ ईस्ट डिवीजन में कार्य थे।
• अन्य शीर्ष स्तरीय आईपीएस अधिकारी तबादलों में, रणवीर सिंह कृष्णा को पुदुचेरी का पुलिस प्रमुख नियुक्त किया गया है। वह 1988 बैच के आईपीएस अधिकारी बालाजी श्रीवास्तव का स्थान लेंगे जो दिल्ली में कार्यभार ग्रहण करेंगे। श्रीवास्तव का ट्रान्सफर दिल्ली पुलिस में कर दिया गया है।

राष्ट्रीय उपभोक्ता अधिकार दिवस 2020: 24 दिसंबर

• देश भर में हर साल 24 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रीय उपभोक्ता अधिकार दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। आज के ही दिन 1986 में राष्ट्रपति द्वारा उपभोक्ता संरक्षण अधिनियम 1986 को मंजूरी दी गई, जिसके बाद यह लागू हुआ था। इस अधिनियम का उद्देश्य उपभोक्ताओं को विभिन्न प्रकार के शोषण, जैसे कि खराब सामान, सेवाओं में कमी और अनुचित व्यापार तरीकों के खिलाफ प्रभावी सुरक्षा प्रदान करना है।
• यह दिन लोगों को उपभोक्ता अधिकारों के अभियान के महत्व और प्रत्येक उपभोक्ता को उनके अधिकारों और जिम्मेदारियों के बारे में अधिक जागरूक बनाने का अवसर प्रदान करता है।
• ‘जागो ग्राहक जागो’, जिसका अर्थ है ’जागरूक उपभोक्ता बनें’, उपभोक्ता मामलों के विभाग द्वारा शुरू किया गया एक उपभोक्ता जागरूकता कार्यक्रम है।
• इस पहल के हिस्से केअंतर्गत, सरकार ने चैनलों का उपयोग उपभोक्ता सूचना और शिक्षा के लिए प्रिंट, मीडिया विज्ञापनों, ऑडियो अभियानों और वीडियो अभियानों के माध्यम से उपभोक्ता जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए किया है।

अमित शाह करेंगे नेताजी की 125 वीं जयंती के अवसर पर गठित समिति की अध्यक्षता

• केंद्र सरकार ने नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस की 125 वीं जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में एक उच्च-स्तरीय समिति (High-Level Committee) का गठन करने का निर्णय लिया है। इस उच्च स्तरीय समिति की अध्यक्षता केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह करेंगे।
• यह समिति भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में नेताजी द्वारा दिए गए योगदान के लिए श्रद्धांजलि देन और आभार प्रकट करने के लिए 23 जनवरी 2021 से शुरू होने वाले एक साल के स्मरणोत्सव की गतिविधियों पर फैसला लेगी। उच्च-स्तरीय संस्मरण समिति के अन्य सदस्यों में विशेषज्ञ, इतिहासकार, लेखक, नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस के पारिवारिक सदस्य के साथ-साथ आज़ाद हिंद फौज / INA से जुड़े प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्ति शामिल होंगे।

यूएन वीमेन और केरल सरकार ने भारत के पहले जेंडर डेटा हब के लिए किया समझौता

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र महिला और केरल सरकार ने भारत के पहले जेंडर डेटा हब की स्थापना के लिए हाथ मिलाया है। केरल के मुख्यमंत्री पिनाराई विजयन की उपस्थिति में इस संबंध में एक समझौता ज्ञापन (एमओयू) पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए। सह-संचालन के तीन प्रमुख क्षेत्रों - द जेंडर पार्क में जेंडर डेटा सेंटर की स्थापना, लिंग समानता पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन के दूसरे संस्करण का शुभारंभ, और लैंगिक समानता पर वैश्विक मानक फ्रेमवर्क प्रयासों को बढ़ाना और महिलाओं का सशक्तिकरण में सहयोग करना जैसा कि समझौता ज्ञापन में निर्दिष्ट किया गया है।
• जेंडर हब, नवंबर 2015 में जेंडर इक्वेलिटी पर आयोजित इंटरनेशनल कॉन्फ्रेंस के माध्यम से निर्धारित लक्ष्यों पर आधारित है, और अधिक सटीक आंकड़ों को एकत्र करने, विश्लेषण और उपयोग करने और केंद्र के महिला अधिकारों के लिए नीति निर्माण के तरीके को सूचित करता है। यह सहयोग देंडर पार्क के माध्यम से केरल के सामाजिक न्याय विभाग द्वारा शुरू की गई लैंगिक समानता और महिला सशक्तीकरण के लिए विभिन्न अग्रणी पहलों को व्यापक और बेहतर बनाएगा।

 12 वीं जीआरआईएचए शिखर सम्मेलन का समापन

• वीडियो कांफ्रेसिंग के जरिए 12 वीं GRIHA (ग्रीन रेटिंग फॉर इंटीग्रेटेड हैबिटेट असेसमेंट) समिट का आयोजन किया गया। इसका उद्घाटन वर्चुली उपराष्ट्रपति वेंकैया नायडू ने किया । यह शिखर सम्मेलन सभी समुदायों के लाभ के लिए स्थायी और लचीला समाधान विकसित करने के लिए मजबूत तंत्र बनाने में मदद करने के लिए नवीन प्रौद्योगिकियों और समाधानों पर विचार-विमर्श करने के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करता है।
• इस शिखर सम्मेलन का विषय “Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats” था । यह भारत में सतत आवास विकास पर चर्चा और विचार-विमर्श करने के लिए निर्माण उद्योग में प्रमुख हितधारकों के सहयोग से GRIHA परिषद द्वारा आयोजित वार्षिक प्रमुख कार्यक्रम है।
• यह भारत में ग्रीन भवनों को बढ़ावा देने और प्रशासन करने के लिए द एनर्जी एंड रिसोर्सेज इंस्टीट्यूट (TERI) और नवीन और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा मंत्रालय (MNRE), भारत सरकार द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से एक स्वतंत्र, न-फॉर-प्रॉफिट सोसायटी है।

• महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री और विधानसभा में विपक्ष के वर्तमान नेता, देवेंद्र फड़नवीस ने माधव भंडारी द्वारा लिखित पुस्तक 'अयोध्या' का विमोचन किया। यह पुस्तक अयोध्या में राम मंदिर के लिए किए गए विरोध प्रदर्शनों को सारांशित करते हुए एक प्रमुख संदर्भ दस्तावेज के रूप में काम करेगी।

BoB ने सुरक्षा बलों के साथ "बड़ौदा मिलिट्री सैलरी पैकेज" समझौता ज्ञापन पर किए हस्ताक्षर

• बैंक ऑफ बड़ौदा (BoB) ने भारतीय नौसेना और भारतीय तटरक्षक बल के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं जिसके तहत बैंक खाताधारकों को सुविधाओं के साथ-साथ अनुकूलित सेवाएं भी प्रदान करेगा। बैंक ने ''Baroda Military Salary Package'' के माध्यम से विशेष रूप से अनुकूलित बैंकिंग सेवाओं की पेशकश करने के लिए भारतीय सेना के साथ अपने मौजूदा समझौता ज्ञापन को नवीनीकृत किया है।
• '"Baroda Military Salary package" के तहत 8,200 से अधिक घरेलू शाखाओं और लगभग 20,000 व्यापार संवाददाता टचप्वाइंट के बैंक के नेटवर्क के माध्यम से भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों के सेवारत और सेवानिवृत्त कर्मियों को सेवाए प्रदान की जाएंगी।
• पैकेज में नि: शुल्क व्यक्तिगत दुर्घटना बीमा कवर, स्थायी कुल विकलांगता कवर, आंशिक विकलांगता कवर और बड़ी मात्रा में वायु दुर्घटना बीमा कवर, के साथ-साथ सेवारत कर्मियों की मृत्यु के मामले में उच्च शिक्षा कवर और लड़की विवाह कवर सहित बहुत ही आकर्षक लाभ हैं।
• पैकेज के तहत अन्य सेवाओं में सभी बैंक एटीएम पर असीमित मुफ्त एटीएम लेनदेन, खुदरा ऋणों में विभिन्न सेवा शुल्क पर छूट या रियायतें, RTGS/NEFT के माध्यम से फ्री प्रेषण सुविधा, मुफ्त डिमांड ड्राफ्ट/बैंकर चैक, लॉकर किराए में पर्याप्त छूट, और कार्ड के उपयोग में विभिन्न अतिरिक्त लाभ शामिल है।

Donald Trump Honours PM Modi With Top US Honour ‘Legion Of Merit’

• US President Donald Trump has presented America’s highest military decoration, ‘The Legion of Merit’, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The prestigious Legion of Merit was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in elevating strategic partnership of the two countries.
• The award was accepted by India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu on behalf of the prime minister from the US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien at the White House on 21 December 2020.

 NATIONAL

World Bank signs $500mn project to develop highways in India

• The Government of India and the World Bank signed a $500 million project to build safe and green national highway corridors in the states of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The project will also enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in mainstreaming safety and green technologies. The $500 million loans from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development a lending arm of World Bank Group, has a maturity of 18.5 years including a grace period of five years.
• The Green National Highways Corridors Project will support MoRTH construct 783 km of highways in various geographies by integrating safe and green technology designs such as local and marginal materials, industrial byproducts, and other bioengineering solutions.
• The project will help reduce GHG emissions in the construction and maintenance of highways.
• The ultimate objective of transport infrastructure is to provide seamless connectivity and reduce logistics costs.
• The Government of India has launched many investment programs in road sector infrastructure to strengthen and improve logistics performance.
• This project will also support analytics to map the freight volume and movement pattern on the National Highway network, identify constraints, and provide innovative logistics solutions.

Dharmendra Pradhan dedicates Bengal’s 1st oil and gas reserve ‘Bengal Basin’

• Union Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan has dedicated West Bengal’s first oil and gas reserve, ‘Bengal Basin’, to the nation. The Bengal Basin is explored and owned by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). It is the eight producing basins of India by ONGC.
• The others are Krishna-Godavari (KG), Mumbai Offshore, Assam Shelf, Rajasthan, Cauvery, Assam-Arakan Fold Belt and Cambay. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited commenced the production of crude oil from the Asokenagar-1 well, Bengal Basin in 24 Paragana district of the state on 20 December 2020.

Renowned Malayalam poet Sugathakumari passes away

• Renowned poet and activist, Sugathakumari passed away, after testing positive for the coronavirus. She was one of the most active campaigners of the Save Silent Valley Movement when it took shape in the 1970s. She wrote a poem Marathinu Sthuti (Hymn to a Tree), which was recited at every other protest to save the Silent Valley.
• Sugathakumari was awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri, in 2006.

Vineet Agarwal takes over as new Assocham President

• Managing Director of logistics major Transport Corporation of India Limited, Vineet Agarwal has taken over as the new President of The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).
• He replaces Niranjan Hiranandani, Co-Founder and MD, Hiranandani Group of Companies. Sumant Sinha, Chairman and Managing Director of ReNew Power, is the new Senior Vice-President of Assocham.

 Satyendra Garg assumes Andaman and Nicobar DGP charge

• Senior IPS officer, Satyendra Garg has assumed Andaman and Nicobar DGP charge. Garg, a 1987-batch IPS officer was posted as joint secretary in the Union home ministry. He was handing the North East division in the home ministry as a joint secretary before being repatriated to his cadre.
• Among other top-level reshuffle IPS officer, Ranvir Singh Krishna is named the police chief of Puducherry. He will replace 1988-batch IPS officer Balaji Srivastava who will assume charge in Delhi. Srivastav has been transferred to the Delhi Police.

National Consumer Rights Day 2020

• National Consumer Rights Day is observed every year on December 24. On this day in 1986, the Consumer Protection Act 1986 received the Presidential assent and thus came into force. The Act aims to provide consumers with effective safeguards against different types of exploitation, such as defective goods, deficiency in services and unfair trade practices.
• This day provides an opportunity for people to highlight the importance of the consumer rights movement and the need to make every consumer more aware of their rights and responsibilities.
• ‘Jago Grahak Jago’, which means ‘Be aware consumer’, is a consumer awareness program launched by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
• As part of this initiative, the government has used channels to create consumer awareness through print, media advertisements, audio campaigns and video campaigns for consumer information and education.

 Amit Shah to lead panel on Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary event

• The Union Government has decided to constitute a High-Level Committee (HLC) to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The High-Level Committee will be headed by the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.
• This HLC will decide on the activities for a one-year-long commemoration beginning 23 January 2021, as a tribute and mark of gratitude to the contribution made by Netaji in India’s freedom struggle. The other members of the High-Level Commemoration Committee will include experts, historians, authors, family members of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as well as eminent persons associated with Azad Hind Fauj/INA.

UN Women and Kerala govt tie-up for India’s 1st Gender Data Hub

• The UN Women and Kerala government have collaborated to establish India’s first Gender Data Hub. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Three key areas of co-operation, as specified in the MoU, will be setting up the Gender Data Centre at The Gender Park, launching the second edition of the International Conference on Gender Equality, and increasing engagement on the global normative frameworks on gender equality and empowerment of women.
• The Gender Hub builds on the goals established through the International Conference on Gender Equality held in November 2015, to collect, analyse and use more nuanced data and inform policy formulation in a manner that centre-stage women’s rights. This collaboration will broaden and deepen various pioneering initiatives for gender equality and women empowerment launched by the Social Justice Department of Kerala through The Gender Park.

 12th GRIHA Summit of TERI Concludes

• The 12th GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) Summit was held virtually. It was inaugurated by Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu virtually. The Summit provides a platform to deliberate on innovative technologies and solutions to help in creating robust mechanisms for developing sustainable and resilient solutions for the benefit of the entire community.
• The theme of the Summit was “Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats”. It is the annual flagship event organized by GRIHA Council in association with ‘key stakeholders in the construction industry’ to discuss and deliberate on the furtherance of Sustainable Habitat Development in India.
• It is an independent, not-for-profit society jointly setup by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India to promote and administer green buildings in India.
• Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) is the national rating system of India for any completed building construction.
• It has been being recognised as India’s own green building rating system in India’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Devendra Fadnavis releases book ‘Ayodhya’ written by Madhav Bhandari

• Maharashtra former Chief Minister and present leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis has released the book ‘Ayodhya’ written by Madhav Bhandari. The book will serve as a key reference document summarising the protests held for the cause of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.
• The book brings together various references that are related to Ayodhya town in Uttar Pradesh. The invaders had destroyed the Ram temple there and a defeatist mentality was thrust upon Hindus for years to come. BoB signs MoU with defence forces named “Baroda Military Salary package

• Bank of Baroda (BoB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard under which the bank would offer customised services along with a host of facilities to account holders. The bank has also renewed its existing MoU with the Indian Army to offer specially customised banking services through ”Baroda Military Salary Package”.
• Services under ”Baroda Military Salary Package will be offered to serving and retired personnel of Indian Armed Forces through the Bank”s network of over 8,200 domestic branches and around 20,000 business correspondent touchpoints.
• The package offers very attractive benefits including free Personal Accidental Insurance cover, Permanent Total Disability cover, Partial disability Cover and Air Accident Insurance Cover of sizable amounts, as well as Higher Education Cover and Girl Child Marriage Cover on death in case of serving personnel.
• Other offerings under the package include unlimited free ATM transactions at all bank ATMs, waivers or concessions on various service charges in retail loans, free remittance facility through RTGS/NEFT, free Demand Draft/Banker”s Cheque, substantial discount in locker rentals, and various additional benefits in the usage of Cards.
