मिगुएल मारियो डियाज़-कैनेल को आधिकारिक तौर पर 'कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ऑफ क्यूबा' के पहले सचिव के रूप में शपथ दिलाई

• मिगेल मारियो डियाज़-कैनेल को राउल कास्त्रो के इस्तीफे के बाद, 'क्यूबा की कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के पहले सचिव' के रूप में शपथ दिलाई गई है। कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के सचिव एक पार्टी शासक क्यूबा में सबसे शक्तिशाली स्थिति है। डिआज़-कैनेल में अब क्यूबा के दो सबसे महत्वपूर्ण पद हैं, जो पार्टी के प्रमुख और राज्य के अध्यक्ष हैं।
• राउल कास्त्रो ने घोषणा की कि वह पार्टी के प्रमुख पद से हटेंगे और एक युवा पीढ़ी को नेतृत्व सौंपेंगे। डिआज़-कैनेल अपने पूर्ववर्ती की तुलना में लगभग तीस र्व्‍ष छोटे है और अब क्यूबा के दो सबसे महत्वपूर्ण पदों, पार्टी के प्रमुख और राज्य के अध्यक्ष का पद संभालेंगे। कास्त्रो 2011 से इस पद पर थे जब उन्होंने अपने बड़े भाई फिदेल कास्त्रो से पदभार संभाला था।

पंजाब ने 2022 तक “हर घर जल” के लिए योजना बनाई

• पंजाब राज्य ने योजना के अनुसार 2022 तक 'हर घर जल' लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए राज्य की प्रतिबद्धता को दोहराया। पंजाब में 34.73 लाख ग्रामीण परिवार हैं, जिनमें से 25.88 लाख (74.5%) में नल के पानी की आपूर्ति है। 2021-22 में, राज्य में 8.87 लाख नल कनेक्शन देने की योजना है, जिससे हर ग्रामीण परिवार को नल कनेक्शन प्रदान किया जा सके। अब तक पंजाब में 4-जिलों, 29 ब्लॉकों, 5,715 पंचायतों और 6,003 गांवों को ’हर घर जल’ घोषित किया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि हर ग्रामीण घर में नल से पानी पहुंचता है।
• पारदर्शिता और जवाबदेही सुनिश्चित करने के लिए, पंजाब ने इंटरएक्टिव वॉयस रिस्पॉन्सिव सिस्टम से सुसज्जित 24x7 कॉल सेंटर स्थापित किया है। इसके अनुरूप शिकायत निवारण प्रणाली को दिसंबर 2020 में अपग्रेड किया गया था। पिछले वर्ष, निवारण दर 97.76% थी। प्रतिदिन की लंबित शिकायतों को एसएमएस, व्हाट्स ऐप संदेशों, ई-मेल और फोन पर कार्यकारी अभियंता को रिमाइंडर भेजकर किया जाता है।

अमेरिकी राजनेता वाल्टर मोंडेल का निधन

• पूर्व अमेरिकी राजनेता, राजनयिक, और वकील वाल्टर मोंडेल, जिन्होंने संयुक्त राज्य के 42 वें उपराष्ट्रपति के रूप में कार्य किया, का हाल ही में निधन हो गया है।
• उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति जिमी कार्टर के अधीन 1977 से 1981 तक उपराष्ट्रपति के रूप में कार्य किया। उन्होंने बिल क्लिंटन के तहत 1993 से 1996 तक जापान में अमेरिकी राजदूत के रूप में भी कार्य किया।

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के पूर्व गवर्नर मैदावोलु नरसिम्हम का निधन

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) के पूर्व गवर्नर मैदावोलु नरसिम्हम का हाल ही में निधन हो गया है। वह "भारतीय बैंकिंग सुधार के पिता" के रूप में प्रसिद्ध थे।
• वह RBI के 13 वें गवर्नर थे और 2 मई, 1977 से 30 नवंबर, 1977 तक कार्य किया था। उन्हें बैंकिंग और वित्तीय क्षेत्र में सुधारों पर दो उच्चस्तरीय समितियों के अध्यक्ष के रूप में जाना जाता था।

भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता बच्‍ची सिंह रावत का निधन

• भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता और पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री बच्ची सिंह रावत का निधन हो गया है। वह उत्तराखंड में अल्मोड़ा-पिथौरागढ़ निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से चार बार सांसद थे।
• उन्होंने अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी सरकार में केंद्रीय विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी राज्य मंत्री के रूप में कार्य किया था।

• इस अक्टूबर में जेके राउलिंग की एक नई किताब आने वाली है, जिसमें सभी नए पात्रों के साथ बच्चों की उत्सव सम्बन्धी कहानी है। कहानी जैक नाम के एक लड़के और उसके खिलौने डर पिग की है, जो क्रिसमस की पूर्व संध्या पर लापता हो जाता है।
• यह पुस्तक दुनिया भर में 12 अक्टूबर को रिलीज़ होने वाली है। "द क्रिसमस पिग" हैरी पॉटर के बाद से राउलिंग का पहला बच्चों का उपन्यास है।

LIC ने अपने डिजिटल भुगतान को सुविधाजनक बनाने के लिए होमग्राउंड पेमेंट्स प्लेयर Paytm को नियुक्त किया

• राज्य द्वारा संचालित भारतीय जीवन बीमा निगम (LIC) ने अपने डिजिटल भुगतान को सुविधाजनक बनाने के लिए घरेलू भुगतान खिलाड़ी पेटीएम (Paytm) की नियुक्ति की है। पहले एक अन्य भुगतान गेटवे के साथ टाई-अप करने के बाद, देश के सबसे बड़े जीवन बीमाकर्ता ने एक नया सौदा किया है क्योंकि इसके अधिकांश भुगतान डिजिटल मोड में चले गए हैं।
• नए समझौते के लिए एक आसान भुगतान प्रक्रिया, भुगतान विकल्पों की एक विस्तृत श्रृंखला और भुगतान चैनलों में अधिक खिलाड़ियों (पर्स, बैंक आदि) की आवश्यकता होती है। LIC ने C-19 महामारी के बाद ई-पेमेंट में उतार-चढ़ाव देखा है। PSU बीमाकर्ता डिजिटल मोड के माध्यम से 60,000 करोड़ रुपये का प्रीमियम जमा करता है, जिसमें बैंकों के माध्यम से किए गए भुगतान शामिल नहीं होते हैं।

Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel has been officially sworn in as the ‘First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’

• Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel has been sworn as the ‘First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’, following the resignation of Raul Castro. The Secretary of the Communist Party is the most powerful position in one party ruling Cuba. Díaz-Canel now holds Cuba’s two most important positions, head of the party and president of the state.
• Raúl Castro announced that he would step down from the key position of the party and hand over the leadership to a younger generation. Díaz-Canel is almost thirty years younger than his predecessor and will now hold Cuba’s two most important positions, head of the party and president of the state. Castro had been in the post since 2011 when he took over from his older brother, Fidel Castro.

Punjab Planned to ‘Har Ghar Jal’ State by 2022

• Punjab State reiterated the commitment of the State to achieve the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ target by 2022 as planned. Punjab has 34.73 lakh rural household, out of which 25.88 lakh (74.5%) have tap water supply. In 2021-22, the State plans to provide 8.87 lakh tap connections, thereby providing tap connection to every rural household. So far, 4-districts, 29 blocks, 5,715 panchayats and 6,003 villages in Punjab have been declared ‘Har Ghar Jal’, which means every rural household has access to water through the tap.
• To ensure transparency and accountability, Punjab has set up a well-equipped digital 24×7 call centre with Interactive Voice Responsive System. This analog grievance redressal system was upgraded in December 2020. Last year, the redressal rate was 97.76%. The pending complaints daily monitoring is done by sending reminders to the Executive Engineer via SMS, What’s App messages, e-mail and over the phone.

American politician Walter Mondale Passed Away

• Former American politician, diplomat, and lawyer Walter Mondale, who served as the 42nd Vice President of the United States, has passed away recently.
• He served as Vice President from 1977 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter. He also served as U.S. ambassador to Japan from 1993 to 1996 under Bill Clinton.

Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Maidavolu Narasimham passed away

• The former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Maidavolu Narasimham, has passed away recently. He was famously known as the “Father of Indian Banking Reforms”.
• He was the 13th Governor of RBI and served from May 2, 1977, to November 30, 1977. He was known for being the chair of two high-powered committees on banking and financial sector reforms.

Senior BJP leader Bachi Singh Rawat Passed Away

• The senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Bachi Singh Rawat has passed away. He was a four-time MP from the Almora-Pithoragarh constituency in Uttarakhand.
• He had served as the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

• World Creativity and Innovation Day is observed on 21 April every year. This day is celebrated to raise awareness around the importance of creativity and innovation in problem-solving with respect to advancing the United Nations sustainable development goals, also known as the “global goals”.
• The main objective of the day is to encourage people to use new ideas, make new decisions, and do creative thinking. Creativity is what makes the world go ‘round.

National Civil Services Day is celebrated on April 21 every year:

• In India, ‘Civil Services Day is celebrated on April 21 every year. It is a day to appreciate the tremendous work done by officers engaged in public administration, in various departments of the central and state governments.
• The Government of India chose April 21 as the National Civil Service Day as on this day the country’s first home minister, Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel addressed the newly appointed Administrative Services Officers in 1947. The historic occasion took place at the Metcalf House in Delhi. In his address, he called Civil Servants, the ‘Steel Frame of India’.

• Stefanos Tsitsipas has won his first ATP Masters 1000 series after a flawless performance against Andrey Rublev in Monte Carlo. The Greek star had lost his previous two finals at this level, with Rafael Nadal denying him in Toronto and Novak Djokovic beating him in Madrid.
• Rublev beat 11-time Monte Carlo champion Nadal in the quarter-finals. Rublev knocked out Roberto Bautista Agut, Rafael Nadal and Dan Evans en route to the final but could not find a way past Tsitsipas.

The new Book of JK Rowling “The Christmas Pig” released in October

• JK Rowling has a new book coming this autumn, a festive children’s story with all new characters. The story is about a boy named Jack and his toy Dur Pig, who goes missing on Christmas Eve.
• The book is set to be released worldwide on October 12. “The Christmas Pig” is Rowling’s first children’s novel since Harry Potter.

LIC has appointed homegrown payments player Paytm to facilitate its digital payments

• State-run Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has appointed homegrown payments player Paytm to facilitate its digital payments. Following a tie-up with another payment gateway earlier, the country’s largest life insurer has sought a new deal as the majority of its payments have moved to digital modes.
• LIC has witnessed an upsurge in e-payments following the C-19 pandemic. The PSU insurer collects premiums worth Rs 60,000 crore via digital mode, which doesn’t comprise payments made through banks.
