सरकार ने छह शहरों को 5-स्टार कचरा मुक्त शहर घोषित किया

• केंद्र सरकार ने छह शहरों- अंबिकापुर, राजकोट, सूरत, मैसूर, इंदौर और नवी मुंबई को 5-स्टार कचरा मुक्त शहर घोषित किया है।
• 19 मई, 2020 को आवास और शहरी मामलों के मंत्रालय द्वारा कचरा मुक्त शहरों की स्टार रेटिंग की घोषणा की गई थी। कुल मिलाकर, छह शहरों को 5-स्टार, 65 शहरों को 3-स्टार और 70 शहरों को एक स्टार के साथ रेट किया गया था ।
• आवास और शहरी मामलों के मंत्री, हरदीप सिंह पुरी ने कचरा मुक्त शहरों की स्टार रेटिंग के लिए संशोधित प्रोटोकॉल भी लॉन्च किया। मंत्रालय ने संकट के कारण स्वच्छता और प्रभावी ठोस अपशिष्ट प्रबंधन को सबसे आगे लाया है।
• शहरों को कचरा मुक्त स्थिति प्राप्त करने और अन्य शहरों को स्वच्छता के उच्च स्तर को प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रेरित करने के लिए एक तंत्र को संस्थागत बनाने के लिए मंत्रालय द्वारा जनवरी 2018 में स्टार रेटिंग प्रोटोकॉल लॉन्च किया गया था। 

SCR ने बेहतर स्वास्थ्य देखभाल प्रदान करने के लिए 'रेल-बॉट' विकसित किया

• दक्षिण मध्य रेलवे जोन ने रोगियों को बेहतर स्वास्थ्य देखभाल प्रदान करने के लिए अस्पताल प्रबंधन के कार्यों में सहायता करने के लिए एक रोबोट डिवाइस, "रेल-बीओटी" (आर-बीओटी) विकसित किया है।
• आर-बीओटी को एंड्रॉइड मोबाइल ऐप और रेडियो फ्रीक्वेंसी (आरएफ) रिमोट कंट्रोल का उपयोग करके संचालित किया जा सकता है। आर-बीओटी का उपयोग दवाओं, चिकित्सा सहायक उपकरण प्रदान करने और रोगियों को भोजन परोसने के लिए किया जा रहा है, जिससे इस तरह की गतिविधियों में मानव संपर्क की आवश्यकता को दूर किया जा सके।

लेसोथो के प्रधान मंत्री थॉमस थाबेन ने अपने पद से दिया इस्तीफा

लेसोथो के प्रधान मंत्री थॉमस थाबाने ने औपचारिक रूप से अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। थाबाने और उनकी मौजूदा पत्नी पर लगभग तीन साल पहले अपनी पूर्व पत्नी की हत्या की साजिश का संदेह होने कारण देश में राजनीतिक संकट पैदा हो रहा है। संसद द्वारा लेसोथो के वित्त मंत्री मोएकेट्सी मजोरो (Moeketsi Majoro) को देश के अंतरिम पीएम के रूप में चुना गया है। 

अंतरिक्ष संचालन स्क्वाड्रन नामक अंतरिक्ष में रक्षा को बढ़ावा देने के लिए जापान ने नई इकाई शुरू की

• जापान ने एक नई अंतरिक्ष रक्षा इकाई शुरू की जो जापान के उपग्रहों के खतरों की निगरानी और मुकाबला करेगी।
• इस इकाई का नाम स्पेस ऑपरेशंस स्क्वाड्रन है और यह जापान की वायु आत्मरक्षा बल का एक हिस्सा है। इसकी शुरुआत 20 सदस्यों ने की है और वर्ष 2023 तक यह पूरी तरह से चालू हो जाएगा।
• स्पेस ऑपरेशन स्क्वाड्रन की भूमिका दुश्मन के हमलों या अंतरिक्ष मलबे से जापानी उपग्रहों की निगरानी और सुरक्षा करना है। 

बैंकिंग और अर्थव्यवस्था

निवेश फर्म बर्नस्टीन ने भारत के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद की विकास दर वित्ति वर्ष 2021 के लिए -7%

• संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में एक निवेश प्रबंधन फर्म बर्नस्टीन ने वित्तs वर्ष 2021 के लिए भारत की जीडीपी विकास दर -7.0% का अनुमान लगाया है।
• इसका मतलब है कि भारत की जीडीपी बर्नस्टीन के अनुसार वित्त वर्ष 21 में 7% तक बढ़ जाएगी। 

बीएसई, एनएसई ने एसएमई के लिए वार्षिक सूची शुल्क में 25% की कटौती की

• स्टॉक एक्सचेंज बीएसई और एनएसई ने अपने एसएमई प्लेटफार्मों के लिए लिस्टिंग शुल्क को 25 प्रतिशत तक कम करने की घोषणा की है।
• बीएसई और एनएसई ने 2012 में अपने संबंधित एसएमई प्लेटफॉर्म लॉन्च किए थे और तब से एक्सचेंजों पर फंड जुटाने, लिस्टिंग और ट्रेडिंग के लिए एसएमई को सुविधा दे रहे हैं। 

गोल्डमैन सैक्स ने वित्त वर्ष 2021 में भारत की जीडीपी की वृद्धि दर -5% बताई

• वैश्विक निवेश बैंकिंग समूह, गोल्डमैन सैक्स ने वित्त वर्ष 2021 के लिए भारत की जीडीपी वृद्धि -5.0% की भविष्यवाणी की है। इससे पहले यह -0.4% पर ही भविष्यवाणी कर चुका है।
• इसका अर्थ है कि गोल्डमैन सैक्स के अनुसार वित्त वर्ष 2021 में भारत की जीडीपी 5.0% पर अनुबंधित रह सकती है। 

RBI ने हाउसिंग फाइनेंस कंपनियों को KYC मानदंड दिए

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने घोषणा की है कि नो योर कस्टमर (केवाईसी) दिशानिर्देश / मानदंड अब हाउसिंग फाइनेंस कंपनियों पर भी लागू होंगे।
• यह ध्यान दिया जाना चाहिए कि आवास वित्त कंपनियों के विनियमन (HFC) को अगस्त 2019 में राष्ट्रीय आवास बैंक से RBI में स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया था।
• और KYC मानदंड RBI की सभी विनियमित संस्थाओं पर लागू होते हैं और इसलिए अब इसे हाउसिंग फाइनेंस कंपनियों पर भी लागू किया गया है।

विश्व मधुमक्खी दिवस: 20 मई

हर साल 20 मई को विश्व स्तर पर World Bee Day यानि विश्व मधुमक्खी दिवस मनाया जाता है। आज के ही दिन यानि  20 मई को, आधुनिक मधुमक्खी पालन की तकनीक का जनक कहे जाने वाले एंटोन जान्सा का जन्म 1734 में स्लोवेनिया में हुआ था। मधुमक्खी दिवस को मनाए जाने का उद्देश्य पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के लिए मधुमक्खियों और अन्य परागणकों के महत्व, योगदान और उनके संरक्षण के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाना है। दुनिया के खाद्य उत्पादन का लगभग 33% मधुमक्खियों पर निर्भर करता है, इस प्रकार वे जैव विविधता के संरक्षण, प्रकृति में पारिस्थितिक संतुलन और प्रदूषण को कम करने में भी सहायक हैं।

रस्किन बॉन्ड 86 साल के हुए, जन्मदिन के मौके पर ‘स्पीकिंग टाइगर’ ने उनकी नई किताब जारी की

प्रसिद्ध लेखक रस्किन बॉन्ड मंगलवार को 86 वर्ष के हो गए। इस अवसर पर पुस्तक प्रकाशक ‘स्पीकिंग टाइगर’ ने उनकी एक नई पुस्तक जारी की है जो नावों, ट्रेनों और विमानों में उनकी यात्रा की कहानियों के बारे में है। ‘‘हॉप ऑन: माई एडवेंचर्स ऑन बोट्स, ट्रेन्स एंड प्लेन्स’’ में बॉन्ड ने अपने बचपन की कुछ यादगार यात्रा रोमांचों का वर्णन किया है। बाल साहित्य के लिए स्पीकिंग टाइगर की इम्प्रिंट‘ टॉकिंग क्यूब’ द्वारा प्रकाशित यह पुस्तक पाठकों को युवा बॉन्ड के साथ एक यात्रा पर ले जाती है जो बहुत ही मजेदार और अद्भुत है। प्रकाशक ने उनके 86 वें जन्मदिन पर इसे एक ई-पुस्तक प्रारूप में जारी किया है। बॉन्ड को जन्मदिन की शुभकामनाएं देते हुए टॉकिंग कब के प्रकाशक और संपादक सुदेशना शोम घोष ने कहा, ‘‘हम इस प्यारी और आकर्षक पुस्तक को जारी करके उनका जन्मदिन मनाते हुए बहुत खुश हैं। रस्किन बॉन्ड लेखकों के चहेता हैं और हम आपसे आशा करते हैं कि आप हमारे साथ उनको शुभकामनाएं देंगे, उनकी नई किताब को पढेंगे।’

National 

Government declares six cities as 5-star garbage-free cities

• The central government has declared six cities- Ambikapur, Rajkot, Surat, Mysore, Indore and Navi Mumbai as five-star garbage-free cities.
• The star rating of garbage-free cities was announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on May 19, 2020. Overall, six cities were rated 5-star, 65 cities were rates 3-star and 70 cities were rated with one star.
• The Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri also launched the revised protocol for the star rating of garbage free cities. The Ministry has now brought importance of sanitation and effective solid waste management to the forefront due to the situation.
• The star rating protocol was launched by the Ministry in January 2018 to institutionalize a mechanism for cities to achieve garbage free status and motivate other cities to achieve higher degrees of cleanliness. 

SCR develops ‘Rail-Bot’ to provide better health care

• South Central Railway zone has developed a robotic device, “RAIL-BOT” (R-BOT) to assist in the functions of hospital management to provide better health care to the patients.
• The R-BOT can be operated by using Android mobile app and radio frequency (RF) remote control. R-BOT is being used to provide medicines, medical accessories, and to serve food to the patients, taking away the need for human contact in such activities. 

International

Thomas Thabane resigns as Lesotho's prime minister

• Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane has formally resigned more than a week after his coalition government fell apart, in a move that could help end a long-running political crisis in the country.
• Lesotho’s Finance Minister MoeketsiMajoro has been named by parliament as the interim PM of the country.

Japan launches new unit to boost defense in space named Space Operations Squadron 

• Japan launched a new space defense unit that will monitor and counter threats to the satellites of Japan.
• The unit is named Space Operations Squadron and is a part of Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force. It has started will 20 members and will become fully operational by the year 2023.
• The role of Space Operations Squadron is to monitor and protect Japanese satellites from enemy attacks or space debris. 

Banking and Economy

Investment firm Bernstein projects India’s GDP growth for FY21 at -7%

• Bernstein, an investment management firm based in the United States, has projected India’s GDP growth rate for FY21 at -7.0%.
• This means India’s GDP will contract by 7% in FY21 as per Bernstein. 

BSE, NSE cut annual listing fee for SMEs by 25% 

• Stock exchanges BSE and NSE have announced to reduce the listing fee for their SME platforms by 25 per cent.
• BSE and NSE had launched their respective SME platforms in 2012 and since then have been facilitating SMEs for raising funds, listing and trading on the exchanges. 

Goldman Sachs projects India’s GDP growth rate for FY21 at -5% 

• The global investment banking group, Goldman Sachs has predicted India’s GDP growth for FY21 at -5.0%. Earlier it has predicted the same at -0.4%.
• It means as per Goldman Sachs the GDP of India will contract by 5.0% in FY21. 

RBI extends KYC norms to Housing Finance Companies

• The Reserve Bank of India has announced that the Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines/norms will now be applicable to Housing Finance Companies also.
• It must be noted that the Regulation of Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) was transferred from the National Housing Bank to RBI in August 2019.
• And KYC norms are applicable to all Regulated Entities of the RBI and hence it has now been made applicable on Housing Finance Companies also.

World Bee Day

• World Bee Day is observed globally on 20th May every year. On this date, 20 May, the pioneer of beekeeping Anton Janša was born in 1734 in Slovenia. The purpose of the bee day is to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem.
• About 33% of the world’s food production depends on bees thus they are vital for the preservation of biodiversity, ecological balance in nature and helpful in reducing pollution.

New book released to mark Ruskin Bond's 86th birthday

• Ruskin Bond’s new book titled ‘Hop On: My Adventures on Boats, Trains and Planes’ was released on his 86th Birthday in an e-book format. The book narrates some of his memorable travel adventures on boats, trains and planes from his childhood.

• The book presents its readers with a number of the author’s hilarious journeys and travel adventures. The illustrations for Ruskin Bond’s new book has been done by SamratHalder.
