जैकिंडा अर्डर्न दूसरी बार बनी न्यूजीलैंड की प्रधान मंत्री

• न्यूजीलैंड की प्रधानमंत्री जैकिंडा अर्डर्न (Jacinda Ardern) देश में हुए आम चुनाव में ऐतहासिक जीत दर्ज करने के बाद, लगातार दूसरी बार तीन साल के कार्यकाल के लिए पीएम चुनी गई है। कोविड से लड़ाई में सख्त रणनीति का लागू करने वाली अर्डर्न अपने पश्चिमी साथियों के बीच अकेली खड़ी रही और उन्होंने देश में दुनिया का सबसे सख्त राष्ट्रव्यापी C-19 लगाने की मंजूरी दी थी।
• 120 सदस्यीय वाली संसद में पड़े कुल 83.7% मतों में से अर्डरन की केंद्र-लेबर पार्टी ने 49.2% वोट के साथ जीत हासिल की। 40 वर्षीय अर्डर्न 26 अक्टूबर 2017 से देश की 40 वीं प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में कार्य भार संभाले हुए हैं।

 WHO ने "C-19 वैक्सीन राष्ट्रवाद" के खिलाफ भारत के प्रस्ताव का समर्थन किया

• अक्टूबर, 2020 की शुरुआत में, भारत और दक्षिण अफ्रीका ने विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन की ट्रिप्स काउंसिल से सी -19 के खिलाफ लड़ने के लिए चिकित्सा उत्पादों के अनुसंधान, विकास, विनिर्माण और आपूर्ति के लिए कुछ नियमों को माफ करने का आग्रह किया था। यह विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन द्वारा समर्थित है।
• भारत और दक्षिण अफ्रीका ने सी -19 टीके, उपचार और परीक्षणों पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय और बौद्धिक संपदा समझौतों को आसान बनाने का प्रस्ताव दिया था। इससे C-19 से संबंधित उपकरण सस्ती कीमत पर उपलब्ध होंगे।

 भारत-श्रीलंका ने SLINEX सैन्य अभ्यास किया 2020

• 19 अक्टूबर, 2020 को भारत और श्रीलंका तीन दिवसीय सैन्य अभ्यास “SLINEX” शुरू करने वाले हैं। अभ्यास का आठवां संस्करण त्रिंकोमाली के तट पर आयोजित किया जाना है। इसे नॉन-कॉन्टैक्ट एट-सी में केवल फॉर्मेट में चलाया जाना है। यह रणनीति सी -19 महामारी के कारण अपनाई गई है।
• ड्रिल में एंटी-एयर हथियार फायरिंग की श्रृंखला शामिल होगी, अंतर संचालन के उच्च स्तर को ठीक करने के लिए क्रॉस डेक उड़ान का संचालन करना। भारतीय नौसेना को अभ्यास में आईएनएस किल्टान और आईएनएस कामोर्ता, चेतक हेलीकॉप्टर और डोर्नियर समुद्री गश्ती विमान तैनात करने हैं। श्रीलंकाई नौसेना का प्रतिनिधित्व एसएलएन शिप्स सयुरा और गजबाहु द्वारा किया जाना है। गजबाहु एक प्रशिक्षण जहाज है और सायुरा एक अपतटीय गश्ती जहाज है।
• 2019 में, SLINEX अभ्यास विशाखापट्टनम में आयोजित किया गया था। यह अभ्यास भारत की SAGAR (क्षेत्र में सभी के लिए सुरक्षा और विकास) और भारत की पड़ोस नीति के अनुरूप किया जा रहा है।

ऐश्वर्या श्रीधर ने वाइल्डलाइफ फ़ोटोग्राफ़र ऑफ़ द ईयर अवार्ड जीता

• मुंबई की एक 23 वर्षीय लड़की, ऐश्वर्या श्रीधर 2020 वाइल्डलाइफ़ फ़ोटोग्राफ़र ऑफ़ द ईयर पुरस्कार जीतने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला बनीं। यह प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार का 56 वां वर्ष है। लाइट्स ऑफ पैशन ’शीर्षक वाली उनकी छवि ने दुनिया भर के 80 से अधिक देशों की 50,000 प्रविष्टियों में से जीत हासिल की।
• केवल 100 छवियों को शॉर्टलिस्ट किया गया था और उसने व्यवहार अकशेरुकी श्रेणी में अपनी तस्वीर के लिए पुरस्कार जीता। वह वयस्क श्रेणी में भारत की ओर से यह प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार जीतने वाली पहली और सबसे कम उम्र की लड़की है। पुरस्कार विजेताओं की घोषणा लंदन में प्राकृतिक इतिहास संग्रहालय में की गई।

ग्लोबल हंगर इंडेक्स 2020 में भारत को रखा गया 94 वें स्थान पर

• हाल ही में जारी ग्लोबल हंगर इंडेक्स 2020 में भारत को 107 देशों में से 94 वें स्थान पर रखा गया है। भारत को GHI पैमाने में 27.2 के स्कोर के साथ "गंभीर" श्रेणी में रखा गया है। हालाँकि भारत के स्कोर 2000 में 38.9, 2006 में 37.5 और 2012 में 29.3 की तुलना में सुधार हुआ है, लेकिन फिर भी यह भूख के गंभीर स्तर को दर्शाता है। पिछले साल भारत रैंकिंग 117 देशों में से 102 स्थान पर था। रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, भारत की 14 फीसदी आबादी कुपोषित का शिकार है। इसके अलावा रैंकिंग यह भी दर्शाती है कि देश में पांच साल से कम उम्र के बच्चों में 37.4 प्रतिशत स्टंटिंग दर और 17.3 प्रतिशत की बर्बादी दर दर्ज की गई है। वहीँ पांच साल से कम उम्र के बच्चों की मृत्यु दर 3.7 प्रतिशत है।
• इस सूची में पड़ोसी देश बांग्लादेश, म्यांमार और पाकिस्तान भी 'गंभीर' श्रेणी में हैं, लेकिन इस साल के हंगर इंडेक्स में ये भारत से ऊपर स्थान पर हैं। इसमें बांग्लादेश 75 वें, जबकि म्यांमार और पाकिस्तान 78 वें और 88 वें स्थान पर हैं। इस रिपोर्ट में 'मध्यम’ हंगर श्रेणी के तहत नेपाल 73 वें और श्रीलंका 64 वें स्थान पर है।

 नियुक्ति और इस्तीफे

रोहन जेटली निर्विरोध चुने गए DDCA के नए अध्यक्ष

• दिवंगत केंद्रीय मंत्री अरुण जेटली के पुत्र एडवोकेट रोहन जेटली को निर्विरोध दिल्ली और जिला क्रिकेट संघ (Delhi and District Cricket Association) का नया अध्यक्ष चुना गया है। वे इस पद के लिए मैदान में अकेले उम्मीदवार थे, क्योंकि उनके खिलाफ नामांकन दाखिल करने वाले एकमात्र उम्मीदवार ने भी अपना नामांकन वापस ले लिया था।
• पेशे से वकील 31 वर्षीय रोहन जेटली इस पद पर 30 जून, 2021 तक बने रहेंगे। जाने -माने राजनेता स्वर्गीय अरुण जेटली ने 1999 से 2013 के बीच DDCA के अध्यक्ष के रूप में कार्य किया था।

पाकिस्तान के तेज गेंदबाज उमर गुल ने संन्यास की घोषणा की

• पाकिस्तानी तेज गेंदबाज, उमर गुल ने घोषणा की है कि वह सभी प्रकार के क्रिकेट से संन्यास ले लेंगे। 36 वर्षीय गुल, जिन्होंने 2016 में पाकिस्तान के लिए एकदिवसीय मैच के लिए अपना आखिरी मैच खेला, ने नेशनल टी 20 कप में बलूचिस्तान टीम के लिए अंतिम मैच खेला।
• पेशावर में जन्मे गुल ने 2003 में एकदिवसीय मैच में अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में पदार्पण किया था। उन्होंने अपना पहला टेस्ट उसी वर्ष खेला था। उनका आखिरी टेस्ट 2013 में दक्षिण अफ्रीका के खिलाफ था। 47 टेस्ट मैचों में, गुल ने 34.06 की औसत से 163 विकेट लिए। उन्होंने 130 एकदिवसीय मैचों में 179 विकेट भी लिए, इसके अलावा 60 टी 20 मे 85 विकेट भी लिए।

Jacinda Ardern wins 2nd term as New Zealand’s PM

• The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, won a landslide victory in the country’s general election, to be elected as the PM for the second consecutive three-year term. In the battle against C-19, Ardern was alone among her western peers in pursuing an explicit elimination strategy and imposed one of the strictest nationwide C-19s in the world.
• Ardern’s centre-left Labour Party won 49.2% of the total 83.7% votes counted in the 120-member parliament. The 40-year-old is serving as the 40th Prime Minister of the country since 26 October 2017.

 WHO backs India’s proposal against “C-19 Vaccine Nationalism”

• Early in October, 2020, India and South Africa urged the TRIPS Council of the World Health Organization to waive certain rules to scale-up research, development, manufacturing and supply of medical products to fight against C-19. This has been backed by the World Health Organization.
• India and South Africa had proposed to ease international and intellectual property agreements on C-19 vaccines, treatments and tests. This will make tools related to C-19 available at affordable costs.

 India-Sri Lanka to hold SLINEX military exercise

• On October 19, 2020, India and Sri Lanka are to begin a three-day military exercise “SLINEX”. The eighth edition of the exercise is to be held off coast of Trincomalee. It is to be conducted in non-contact at-sea only format. This strategy has been adopted due to C-19 pandemic.
• The drill will include series of anti-air weapons firing, cross deck flying operations to fine tune high degree of inter-operability. Indian Navy is to deploy INS Kiltan and INS Kamorta, Chetak helicopters and Dornier maritime patrol aircrafts in the exercise. The Sri Lankan Navy is to be represented by SLN Ships Sayura and Gajabahu. Gajabahu is a training ship and Sayura is an offshore patrol vessel.
• In 2019, the SLINEX exercise was conducted in Vishakhapatnam. The exercise is being conducted in consonance with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for all in the Region) and Neighbourhood first policy of India.

Aishwarya Sridhar wins Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award

• A 23-year-old, Mumbai based girl, Aishwarya Sridhar became the first Indian woman to win the 2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. It is the 56th year of the prestigious award. Her image titled ‘Lights of passion’, won among 50,000 entries from over 80 countries across the world.
• Only 100 images were shortlisted and she won the award for her photograph in the Behaviour Invertebrates category. She is the first and youngest girl to win this prestigious award from India in the Adult category. The award winners were announced at the Natural History Museum in London.

 Ranking

India ranked 94 in Global Hunger Index 2020

• India ranked 94 among 107 nations in the Global Hunger Index 2020. With a score of 27.2, India has been placed in the “serious” category in the GHI scale. Although there is an improvement in a score as compared to 38.9 in 2000, 37.5 in 2006, and 29.3 in 2012 but still it represent a serious level of hunger. Last year, India’s rank was 102 out of 117 countries. According to the report, 14 per cent of India’s population is undernourished. It also showed the country recorded a 37.4 per cent stunting rate among children under five and a wasting rate of 17.3 per cent. The under-five mortality rate stood at 3.7 per cent.
• The neighbouring Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan too are in the ‘serious’ category but ranked higher than India in this year’s hunger index. While Bangladesh ranked 75, Myanmar and Pakistan are in the 78th and 88th position. Nepal in 73rd and Sri Lanka in 64th position are in ‘moderate’ hunger category, the report showed.

Rohan Jaitley elected unopposed as DDCA President

• Advocate Rohan Jaitley, the son of late Union Minister Arun Jaitley, has been elected unopposed as the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). He was the single candidate left for the post, as the lone candidate who had filed his nomination against him withdrew his candidature.
• The 31-year-old lawyer is slated to remain in the post till June 30, 2021. Notably, late Arun Jaitley had also served as the president of DDCA between 1999 and 2013.

Pakistan’s fast Bowler Umar Gul announces retirement

• Pakistani pace bowler, Umar Gul has announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket. The 36-year-old Gul, who played his last match for Pakistan an ODI in 2016, featured for Balochistan team in the National T20 Cup.
• The Peshawar-born Gul made his international debut in an ODI in 2003. He played his first Test that year itself. His last Test was against South Africa in 2013. From 47 Test matches, Gul took 163 wickets at an average of 34.06. He also claimed 179 wickets from 130 ODIs, besides 85 wickets from 60 T20Is.
