• माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने लिंक्डइन के बाद अपना दूसरा सबसे बड़ा अधिग्रहण किया है। टेक दिग्गज ने एआई स्पीच टेक फर्म नॉन्स को 19.7 बिलियन डॉलर में खरीदा है। इस कदम से माइक्रोसॉफ्ट को आवाज पहचानने में मदद मिलेगी और यह स्वास्थ्य देखभाल बाजार में तेजी लाएगा। नॉन्स अपने ड्रैगन सॉफ्टवेयर के लिए जाना जाता है, जो गहरी सीख का उपयोग करके भाषण को स्थानांतरित करने में मदद करता है। 2016 में, माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने लिंक्डइन को $ 26 बिलियन में खरीदा था।

डीआरडीओ अपने C-19 अस्पताल को पुन: खोलेगा

• रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन (DRDO) आज दिल्ली कैंट में अपने सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल कोविद अस्पताल को फिर से खोलेगा। दैनिक कोविद-19 मामलों में कमी आने के बाद फरवरी के पहले सप्ताह में यह सुविधा बंद कर दी गई थी। 1,000 बिस्तर वाले डीआरडीओ चिकित्सा सुविधा ने रोगियों को उपचार प्रदान करने के लिए पिछले नवंबर में 250 अतिरिक्त आईसीयू बेड प्राप्त किए।
• इससे अस्पताल में आईसीयू बेड की कुल संख्या 500 हो गई। अस्पताल को DRDO ने 12 दिनों के रिकॉर्ड समय में सशस्त्र बलों, गृह मंत्रालय, स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय और परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय और टाटा ट्रस्ट की सहायता से बनाया था। यह सुविधा पिछले साल जुलाई में चालू हुई थी।

 कुंभ रिटर्न के लिए आरटी-पीसीआर परीक्षा अनिवार्य: राज्य सरकार

• ओडिशा सरकार ने इस महीने की शुरुआत में कुंभ मेले के लिए हरिद्वार जाने वाले लोगों के लिए आरटी-पीसीआर परीक्षण अनिवार्य कर दिया है। इसमें यह भी कहा गया है कि सभी कुंभ मेले के लौटने वालों को 14-दिवसीय क्‍वारंटाइन अवधि का पालन करना होगा।
• विशेष राहत आयुक्त (SRC) पीके जेना ने उन लोगों की सूची साझा की है जिन्होंने उत्तराखंड सरकार के साथ सभी जिला कलेक्टरों और नगरपालिका आयुक्तों के साथ इस कार्यक्रम में भाग लेने के लिए पंजीकरण किया था और उनसे इन सभी व्यक्तियों से संपर्क करने और उनके स्थान और यात्रा का पता लगाने के लिए कहा था।

 रामायण पर पहली बार ऑनलाइन प्रदर्शनी

• पर्यटन और संस्कृति मंत्री प्रह्लाद सिंह पटेल ने रामायण पर पहली बार ऑनलाइन प्रदर्शनी का उद्घाटन किया है। ऑनलाइन प्रदर्शनी के लिए वेबलिंक www.nmvirtual.in/Virtual_Tour/Ramayan है। श्री पटेल ने कल विश्व विरासत दिवस 2021 के अवसर पर एक वेबिनार 'इंडियाज हेरिटेज: पॉवरिंग टूरिज्म' को संबोधित किया।
• ऑनलाइन प्रदर्शनी में भारत के विभिन्न कला स्कूलों से राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय, नई दिल्ली के उनतालीस लघु चित्रों के संग्रह को दिखाया गया है।

 रेलवे  "ऑक्सीजन एक्सप्रेस" ट्रेनें चलाएगा

• रेलवे अगले कुछ दिनों में देश भर में तरल चिकित्सा ऑक्सीजन और ऑक्सीजन सिलेंडर परिवहन के लिए ऑक्सीजन एक्सप्रेस ’ट्रेनें चलाएगा।
• देश में सर्पिलिंग कोरोनोवायरस मामलों के बीच, देश में चिकित्सा ऑक्सीजन की मांग बहुत तेजी बड गई है।
• खाली टैंकर विजाग, जमशेदपुर, राउरकेला और बोकारो से तरल चिकित्सा ऑक्सीजन लोड करने के लिए सोमवार को मुंबई के निकट कालांबोली और बोईसर रेलवे स्टेशनों से अपनी यात्रा शुरू करेंगे।

एशियाई भारोत्तोलन चैंपियनशिप: भारत की मीराबाई चानू विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया

• भारत की मीराबाई चानू ने कल ताशकंद में एशियन वेटलिफ्टिंग चैंपियनशिप में शानदार 119 किग्रा भार उठाकर महिलाओं के 49 किलोग्राम क्लीन एंड जर्क में एक नया विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया। 26 वर्षीय स्नैच में 86 किग्रा भार उठाया और कुल 205 किग्रा में क्लीन एंड जर्क में 119 किग्रा का विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया जिसने इस स्पर्धा में कांस्य पदक भी जीता।
• स्वर्ण पदक चीन के होउ झिहुई के पास गया जिन्होंने 213 किग्रा के प्रयास के साथ स्नैच और कुल वजन में एक नया विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया जबकि उनके हमवतन जियांग हुइहुआ ने स्वर्ण स्तर ओलंपिक क्वालीफायर में 207 किग्रा भार उठाते हुए रजत पदक हासिल किया।

नासा ने स्पेसएक्स को $ 2.9 बिलियन का अनुबंध दिया

• संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नेशनल एरोनॉटिक्स एंड स्पेस एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन (NASA) ने अपने आर्टेमिस प्रोग्राम के लिए एलोन मस्क के स्पेसएक्स को चुना है, ताकि पहले वाणिज्यिक लैंडर को विकसित किया जा सके और अगले दो अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को चंद्रमा पर ले जाया जा सके। इस कॉन्ट्रैक्ट का कुल मूल्य $2.89 बिलियन है।

पूर्व भारतीय फुटबॉलर अहमद हुसैन का निधन हो गया

• C-19 के कारण भारत के पूर्व अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फुटबॉल डिफेंडर, अहमद हुसैन लाला का निधन हो गया है। उन्होंने 1956 के मेलबर्न ओलंपिक में भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया, जहां भारत चौथे स्थान पर रहा। इसके अलावा, वह 1951 के एशियाई खेलों में स्वर्ण पदक जीतने वाली भारतीय टीम का भी हिस्सा थे।

• विश्व लीवर दिवस, शरीर में दूसरे सबसे बड़े अंग के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने के लिए प्रतिवर्ष 19 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है। मस्तिष्क के अपवाद के साथ, लीवर शरीर का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा और सबसे जटिल अंग है।
• हेपेटाइटिस A, B, C, अल्कोहल और ड्रग्स के कारण लीवर की बीमारियां हो सकती हैं। वायरल हेपेटाइटिस, दूषित भोजन और पानी के सेवन, असुरक्षित यौन व्यवहार और नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग के कारण होता है।

 विश्व विरासत दिवस प्रतिवर्ष 18 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है

• विश्व धरोहर दिवस अथवा विश्व विरासत दिवस, प्रतिवर्ष 18 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है। यह दिवस हमारे आसपास दिखाई देने वाली सांस्कृतिक विरासत के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए मनाया जाता है। इसका उद्देश्य ऐतिहासिक स्मारकों और स्थलों को बढ़ावा देना भी है, जिनके माध्यम से हम वास्तव में एक समुदाय की सांस्कृतिक अखंडता को संरक्षित कर सकते हैं।

रेटिंग एजेंसियों ने वित्त वर्ष 2022 के लिए भारत के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद के पूर्वानुमान को कम किया

• C-19 मामलों के पुनरुत्थान के साथ आर्थिक सुधार के लिए जोखिम उत्पन्न होने के कारण, प्रमुख ब्रोकरेज ने चालू वित्त वर्ष 2021-22 के लिए भारत के जीडीपी विकास अनुमानों को घटा दिया है। वर्तमान वित्तीय वर्ष में स्थानीय लॉकडाउन पर कम से कम 10 प्रतिशत के रूप में नाजुक वसूली की चेतावनी भी दी।
• C -19 में 2020-21 के राजकोषीय (अप्रैल 2020 से मार्च 2021) तक, अर्थव्यवस्था को 8 प्रतिशत तक अनुबंधित करने का अनुमान है। वित्त वर्ष 21 के निम्न आधार को चालू वित्त वर्ष में वित्त वर्ष 2014 में 6.8 प्रतिशत पर मॉडरेट करने से पहले दो अंकों की विकास दर में वृद्धि देखी गई थी।

Microsoft buys AI speech tech company Nuance for $19.7 billion

• Microsoft has made its second-biggest acquisition after LinkedIn. The tech giant has bought AI speech tech firm Nuance for $19.7 billion. The move will help Microsoft’s prowess in voice recognition and will give it a boost in the health care market. Nuance is known for its Dragon software which helps to transcribe speech using deep learning. In 2016, Microsoft had purchased LinkedIn for $26 billion.
• The acquisition will combine solutions and expertise to deliver new cloud and AI capabilities across healthcare and other industries, and represent the latest step in Microsoft’s industry-specific cloud strategy.
• Nuance provides the AI layer at the healthcare point of delivery and is a pioneer in the real-world application of enterprise AI.
• Nuance’s products include multiple clinical speech recognition software as a service (SaaS) offerings built on Microsoft Azure. The firm’s solutions work with core healthcare systems, and are currently used in 77% of U.S. hospitals.

 NATIONAL

DRDO to reopen its C-19 Hospital

• Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will reopen its Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Covid Hospital in Delhi Cantt today. The facility was shut in the first week of February after daily Covid-19 cases came down. The 1,000-bed DRDO medical facility got 250 additional ICU beds last November to provide treatment to patients.
• This took the total number of ICU beds at the hospital to 500. The hospital was built by DRDO in record time of 12 days with assistance from the armed forces, ministry of home affairs, ministry of health and family welfare and Tata Trust. The facility became operational in July last year.

 RT-PCR test mandatory for kumbh returnees: State Government

• The Odisha government has made the RT-PCR test mandatory for people who had travelled to Haridwar for the Kumbh Mela earlier this month. It also said that all Kumbh Mela returnees will have to follow a 14-day quarantine period.
• Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena has shared the list of persons who had registered with the Uttarakhand government to participate in the event, with all district collectors and municipal commissioners and asked them to contact all these persons and find out their location and travel plans.

 First ever online exhibition on Ramayana

• Tourism and Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has inaugurated the first-ever online exhibition on Ramayana. The weblink for the online exhibition is www.nmvirtual.in/Virtual_Tour/Ramayan. Mr Patel addressed a webinar 'India's Heritage: Powering Tourism' on the occasion of World Heritage Day 2021 yesterday.
• The online exhibition showcases forty nine miniature paintings collections of National Museum, New Delhi from different art schools of India.

 Railway to run "Oxygen Express" trains

• The Railways will run ‘Oxygen Express’ trains over the next few days to transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country.
• Amid spiralling coronavirus cases in the country, the demand for medical oxygen in the country has gone through the roof.
• Empty tankers will begin their journey from Kalamboli and Boisar railway stations in and near Mumbai on Monday to load liquid medical oxygen from Vizag, Jamshedpur, Rourkela and Bokaro.

Asian Weightlifting Championships: India's Mirabai chanu creates world record

• India's Mirabai Chanu set a new World Record in the women's 49kg Clean and Jerk with an impressive 119 kg lift at Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent yesterday. The 26-year-old lifted 86kg in snatch and a world record of 119kg in clean and jerk for a total of 205kg which also won her the bronze medal at the event.
• The gold medal went to Hou Zhihui of China who created a new world record in snatch and total weight with an effort of 213kg while her compatriot Jiang Huihua clinched the silver, lifting 207kg in the gold level Olympic qualifier.

 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

NASA Awards $2.9 billion contract to SpaceX

• The United States space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has picked Elon Musk’s SpaceX for its Artemis programme, to develop the first commercial lander and take the next two US astronauts to the moon. The total value of this contract is $2.89 billion.
• SpaceX will develop a spacecraft ‘SpaceX Starship’ to land next to two US astronauts, including a women astronaut at the lunar south pole region, by 2024.
• NASA also aims to bring the first person of colour to the moon’s surface as part of the Artemis programme.
• Between 1969 and 1972, the US brought 12 astronauts to the moon.

 OBITUARY

Former Indian Footballer Ahmed Hussain Passes Away

• Former India’s International Football defender, Ahmed Hussain Lala has passed away due to C-19. He represented India in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where India finished fourth. Besides, he was also part of the Indian team that won the gold medal in the 1951 Asian Games.
• Ahmed also took part in the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan, in which India finished fourth. In Club Football, Ahmed played for Hyderabad City Police, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting Club. In his career, he had won two Santosh Trophy, three Durand Cups and six Rovers Cups.

World Liver Day observed every year on 19 April

• World Liver day is observed on the 19 April every year to spread awareness about the second largest organ in the body. The liver is the second largest and the most complex organ in the body, with the exception of the brain.
• Liver diseases can be caused by hepatitis A, B, C, alcohol and drugs. Viral Hepatitis occurs due to consumption of contaminated food and water, unsafe sexual practices and drug abuse.

 World Heritage Day observed every year on 18 April

• World Heritage Day observed globally on 18 April every year. The day is observed to raise awareness about the cultural heritage that we see around us. It is also aimed at promoting historical monuments and sites through which we can actually preserve the cultural integrity of a community as well.
• This year’s theme “Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures” reflects on the need to acknowledge global calls for greater inclusion and recognition of diversity.
• The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 announced, 18 April as the World Heritage Day. This was approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983, with an aim of enhancing awareness about the importance of cultural heritage, monuments and conserving them.

 BANKING AND ECONOMY

Rating Agencies downgrade India’s GDP forecasts for financial year 2022

• With the resurgence of C-19 cases posing risks to economic recovery, the leading brokerages have downgraded India’s GDP growth projections for the current fiscal year 2021-22. Current fiscal year to as low as 10 per cent on local lockdowns threatening fragile recovery.
• In the C-19 ravaged 2020-21 fiscal (April 2020 to March 2021), the economy is projected to have contracted by up to 8 per cent. The low base of FY’21 was seen aiding a double-digit growth rate in the current fiscal before moderating to 6.8 per cent in FY’23.
