AILET LLM 2023 Notification, Exam Dates & Eligibility Criteria (Announced)

The official notification has announced the AILET LLM exam 2023 dates for the next academic session. AILET PG exam 2023 is one such entrance test that is conducted systematically every year to admit the most desiring candidates.

The college offers students 81 seats for the LLM program for the academic year 2023-2024. 

The National Law University, Delhi, conducts the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) 2023 for admission into B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LLM, and Ph.D. courses based on the rank obtained in the AILET exam 2023 merit list.

Apart from CLAT, it is another major exam in the country for law aspirants. Usually, every year the AILET test is scheduled before the CLAT exam. However, 2021 was an expectation. 

Earlier it was be easier to prepare for both examinations. However, since the CLAT pattern has been changed recently, targeting both exams can be tricky. Despite the fact that the subjects are similar, both tests require distinct approaches to study.

Can I Apply for AILET LLM Exam 2023

Here are the prerequisites that make you eligible for AILET LLM 2023: 

  • All candidates, other than the Foreign Nationals category, will have to appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), and selection shall be solely on that basis.
  • The Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates are also required to apply online through the same portal.
  • To be eligible for admission to the LLM program, a candidate should have passed the LLB or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks on aggregate (50% in case of reserved categories, i.e., SC/ST/Persons with Disability).
  • Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, such candidates shall have to obtain the cut-off date, which will be notified alongside the Entrance Test result.
  • The candidates belonging to OCI/PIO category shall have the option to either apply under the Foreign National Category or under the category of Indian students. 
  • In case the OCI/PIO candidate applies under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test along with other students.

Definition of Foreign Nationals: The candidates who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold a valid passport.
Definition of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/ Person of Indian Origin (PIO): As notified by the Govt. of India.

As we have mentioned above, you must fill out the application form on or before 7 September 2022.
 
The online application process is a four-step process

  • Initial registration
  • Submit your details
  • Upload documents
  • Application Fee

You may not be required to learn how to fill out the application form. However, here are a few things to avoid doing while filling out an application form: 

  • Do not rush while filling out the application form for such an important exam!  Pay close attention to all the instructions given.
  • Keep your mark sheets, the percentage calculated, and handy.  On verification, if your documents or scores entered are incorrect, your application will be rejected. 
  • Do not overlook instructions pertaining latest and clear passport-size photograph.

AILET 2023 LLM Exam Pattern

What is the AILET 2023 LLM Exam Pattern? 

Note that the exam pattern has slightly changed for this academic year. Consider this before you start with your preparations. 

  • The AILET has 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) for 100 marks that must be attempted in Section A along with a few descriptives. This section also has a negative marking of 0.25.
  • The broad syllabus for 100 MCQs will be from all major subjects of law like Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Jurisprudence, Law of Tort International Law, etc.

Negative marking: 

  • The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1, i.e., for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. 
  • Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to a deduction of 1 mark.

AILET LLM Exam 2023 Courses

As per the official notification, on the basis of AILET, NLU Delhi offers the following courses.

  • BA LLB (Honours)
  • Master of Law (LLM)
  • Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

National Law University, Delhi, offers students enrolled in the LLM program the option of specializing in one amongst various streams.

AILET 2023 LLM Exam Seat Matrix

  • Total Seats: 81 [71 Seats on merit through All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and 10 Seats for direct admission to Foreign Nationals on merit (5 seats for Foreign Nationals & 5 seats for OCI/PIO)].
  • Foreign Nationals are exempted from AILET (No. of seats may vary). Reservation: 15% for SC candidates, 7.5% for ST candidates, and 5% for Persons with Disabilities.

Note: One additional supernumerary seat for Kashmiri Migrants.
