Tier 1 is the initial stage in the SSC CGL Selection Process. It includes 4 sections namely Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, Reasoning and English. 

As per the recent notice, the authorities have planned to conduct a common test named NRA CET for Tier 1 of SSC CGL. This exam shall include the similar syllabus as the CGL, however, it might include few topics asked in banking exams as well.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Reasoning Syllabus

25 questions holding a weightage of 50 marks are asked in CGLE Tier 1. This section would include questions based on both verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

It may include questions based on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Quant Syllabus

This section holds a weightage of 50 marks. 25 questions both calculative and direct solution based are asked in the exam.

The questions are designed to test your ability to make appropriate use of numbers. The commonly asked topics are percentage, ratio and proportion, number systems, algebra, geometry, simple interest, compund interest, profit loss, average, speed time work and distance etc.

Questions in English Section is designed to test the candidate's understanding and knowledge of the English Language. The questions include on spot the error, fill in 21 the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/ detecting misspelled words, idioms & phrases, one-word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/ passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/ indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.

SSC CGL General Studies Syllabus for Tier 2

The General Studies section is divided into two parts: Part A (Finance and Accounts) and Part B (Economics and Governance). The topics involved under SSC CGL Tier 2 Syllabus of General Studies are

  1. Comptroller & Auditor General of India- Constitutional provisions, Role, and responsibility.

  3. Basic Concept of Economics and introduction to Micro Economics: Definition, scope, and nature of Economics, Methods of economic study and Central problems of an economy and Production possibilities curve.
  4. Theory of Demand and Supply: Meaning and determinants of demand, Law of demand and Elasticity of demand, Price, income and cross elasticity; Theory of consumer‟s behaviourMarshallian approach and Indifference curve approach, Meaning and determinants of supply, Law of supply and Elasticity of Supply.
  5. Theory of Production and cost: Meaning and Factors of production; Laws of production- Law of variable proportions and Laws of returns to scale.

SSC introduced this new concept in the year 2016 in which the Tier 3 examination has the main focus on the writing skills of candidates. SSC CGL Syllabus Tier 4 2021

The SSC CGL Merit list is always based on Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 exams. Similarly, the candidates who have qualified in all four Tiers will be asked to take up the exam for Tier 4 of SSC CGL. Tier 4 is a Skill Test involving two tests.

  • Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)
  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

DEST: Only those candidates who have opted for the Tax Assistant Posts in Central Excise & Income Tax will sit in DEST. Hence, DEST will be tested at 2000 key depressions per hour for 15 minutes. This test will be of qualifying nature. Computers for the test will be provided by the Commission at the Centre/ venue notified for the purpose. The Skill Test will be held at the Commission‟s Regional/ Sub-Regional Offices or at other Centres as may be decided by the commission.

CPT: CPT is for those applicants who have applied for the Assistant Section Officer Post in CSS only. Hence, candidates are supposed to appear for the Computer Proficiency Test to approve the selection and display their reassurance and comfort of computer usage. The Commission will hold Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), comprising of three modules: (i) Word Processing, (ii) Spread Sheet and (iii) Generation of Slides, for the posts of Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQ, Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC. The CPT will be conducted in the manner decided by the Commission for the purpose. No exemption from CPT is allowed for any category of PwD candidates. CPT will be of qualifying nature.
